I will be staying there when I am back in town for my sister's wedding in late December, I will definitely take lots of pics of the room and interior!

I was poking around their website today and you can book rooms now! No earlier than 12/12/12 though. So is that the date of opening their aiming for? Or are they already booked up?

 

Right now, that is their conservative, "outside" date. It will most likely get moved up a bit as things move along as planned. They do not have a formal "Grand Opening" date set....yet.

A friend and I drove down to Louisville last weekend to check out this property and the restaurant, PROOF, before they open their Cincinnati location. While the hotel's public spaces are great (you really feel like you're in a boutique hotel in NYC, Berlin, Barcelona, etc), the service we recieved at PROOF was simply apalling and unacceptable. Maybe my expectations were high (as they should be, given the price tag & cachet of the place) but I had to write off the entire experience as not only disappointing but also very bizarre. Here's to hoping they get it right in Cincinnati...I think there's a huge market here for the hotel, but they have got to nail it with the restaurant as well. We have a far, far more developed culinary scene than Louisville and people here travel. If the food and service sucks, it will fail.

I heard they're shooting for opening the hotel Thanksgiving week and the restaurant a little sooner.

It's probably been about a year since I've been there, but I've been to Proof probably 6 or 7 times and I never had a bad experience.  Hopefully it was just an off night.

Metropole - ReEst'd 2012 - restaurant opening next week

I saw them unloading the chandelier on Friday, but thought it was for the lobby.  It looks very cool outside.  Can't wait to see it lit up. 

It was lit up last night.

I agree that the chandelier looks pretty cool outside, but the metal apparatus holding it up looks cheap and sterile. 

^That thing is staying there?  I thought it was for the lobby, too.  While I like 21c, I have to say that I'm not a fan of that...

I don't mind the outdoor chandelier. I think most people will like it. I do think it would look better though if the styling of the pole reflected the styling of the chandelier itself. Oh well.

Metropole is nice looking.  Original floor looks great. Very open with light wood, white paint, etc.  As you eat they randomly move yellow penguins around the restaurant to various peoples tables. overall style and decor is great.

 

Drinks were good, apps were good, desert was good, entrees were a little disappointing. Service was pretty good, took a little while to get our food but not too long (was only their third night open). Priced basically at what I would expect.  Basically at the standard cincinnati nice restaurant prices.  2 people sharing two apps, an entree, two drinks and 1 desert was $80.

Yes, the Metropole is nice. I still can't get over how nice the outside looks. It's like they completely erased 100 years of grime. I imagine it is how the building originally looked right after it was first built. Great work from 3CDC, as usual.

LOL. I wouldn't mind seeing him somewhere, but preferably inside. Maybe they could donate him to the American Sign Museum.

I wish he was still outside, not sure why they got rid of him, it was something quirky that made the city unique.  (The chandelier also fits that description too ;) )

I think Metrobot is cool I guess but it seems dated. I'm glad it's not on the sidewalk. I'm not sure where it should go - I'd have to look at it.

I took my boyfriend to Metropole last night. It was decent. A bit overpriced though honestly. I'm glad I went but don't know if I'd be going back at any point in the near future. I'd much rather spend half as much at other places that I enjoy a lot more.

 

The building (well what was finished of it) was nice though. There was still a lot of work to do but I liked it. The bathrooms are really nice. Make sure you use them if you go haha.

I went to the soft opening and the bathrooms were honestly the worst part for me.  The stall doors had hinges that made no sense and it was nearly impossible to figure out how to get into the stalls.  One guy actually broke a stall door to get out that night.  Hopefully they fixed that situation.  Everything else is fantastic in my opinion.  It's definitely expensive and beyond my price range, but I think it'll be perfect for the hotel's guests.

based on my experience at their Louisville property and feedback I've been hearing so far about Cincinnati, I think I may hold off eating there for a few months and just try the bar. Inevitably, the menu (and price points) will likely get fine-tuned once they figure out what is working and what isn't.

 

Does anyone know if they are offering any happy hour specials yet? or maybe even a lunch menu?

The 11-story, 100-year-old former Metropole Hotel has been restored into a contemporary art museum, boutique hotel and Metropole restaurant.

Moving to Completed Projects

I had the opportunity to go check out the 21C today for their grand opening. The space exceeded my expectations. It's a great space not just for Cincinnati, but for any city, anywhere. You do not feel like you are in Cincinnati. They clearly spent generously on the design and finishes and it shows. The bathrooms are excellent. Perhaps the biggest difference between their Cincinnati and Louisville property is that the one here is clearly designed with meetings and business functions in mind. The upstairs (which is also an art gallery) houses several large meeting and breakout spaces with lots of natural light and state of the art technology.

 

I also was able to see a suite and the rooftop. I felt the suite was on par with other boutique/luxury hotels but with unique touches like a translucent print of old-world Cincinnati against one window and 21C branded tiles. Also, Malin + Goetz products stocked in the bathroom!

 

The rooftop is unreal. There is nothing like that anywhere in this city, even in Mount Adams. No doubt it will be THE place to drink and socialize next summer. There is a small hot tub up there, as well as a bar and plenty of seating. The views are fantastic. It will be open to the public, but I imagine hotel guests will get priority access on busy nights.

 

It looks like they still have a few small construction issues to work out (exposed wire here and there, some additional painting, etc) but it really looks like a great hotel. Hopefully they deliver on service too.

Watch the video, read the column, visit the 21c. Note that the museum is open 24/7 and, of course, is free.  Also, clarification re rooftop bar--there is no actual bar--it is all table service. So a good place for a date-drink or two, not a hangout.
