Posted July 16, 200618 yr enough with the gd goats -- we are under attack by monitor men: July 15, 2006 Please Explain: Monitor Men So this photo recently came into Gothamist Contribute and we've been scratching our heads over it. Anybody know what is going on here? Is this an art project (a Magritte joke perhaps?)? An advertising gimmick? A new fashion trend? Or maybe New York has itself a new cult? Your guess is as good as ours. Comments ad gimmick. hirable as "street teams" to distribute marketing messages via the screens. believe they might be called pix men or something like that. [1] Posted by: ang | July 15, 2006 04:49 PM that's a bummer. i was really hoping it was a new cult. high tech hari krishna's or something. oh well. [2] Posted by: garth | July 15, 2006 05:02 PM Nice picture. [3] Posted by: Frank Harris | July 15, 2006 05:54 PM The city should find some way to ticket them. Enough with the goddamed ads! [4] Posted by: Toby | July 15, 2006 06:29 PM apparently this sort of ad became trendy in brazil as well. At first I thought they were door-to-door vaccum cleaner salespeople. [5] Posted by: Ana | July 15, 2006 06:33 PM good to see those hundred dollar backpacks are getting some use. [6] Posted by: neil | July 15, 2006 06:37 PM dont know what the monitors are for , but id hate to be in the long hot black suits on a day like this! July 16, 200618 yr Nerds trying to get attention. Why didn't the guy that shot the picture just ask them what they're doing? Surely theres a reason why they're doing it and if you asked them what they were doing, they'd most likely love to talk about it since this is an obvious attempt to draw attention.
July 16, 200618 yr This stinks of guerilla marketing. Move it along, people. Show's over. Nothing more to see here...
