Well this is just swell now they've got a video out for that song:

I'm so sick of that band I don't know what to say.  The local media and that geek Brian Griffin keep endorsing them.  I'm sick of walking into bars and seeing guys playing in these cutesy roots bands or whatever kind of band they devised that gives them an excuse to wear silly outfits.

^I wouldn't go as far as all that. But it's typical of this place that they should be chosen above all others to represent the city.

What was the meeting like when the chamber decided to get Jake Speed.

Suit 1: To attract young knowledge workers to ensure Cincinnati's economic competitiveness in the decades ahead, we need a song. Something that talks about what a vibrant, exciting place Cincinnati is. You know, something for the kids.

Suit 2: Right, I've heard about these iPod gizmos. The kids these days really like the music.

Suit 3: Oh, I know. How about that hip little band that had one hit. Something about a supernatural union?

Suit 1: Blessid Union of Souls? Too late, the Reds got 'em.

Suit 2: What about Bootsy?

Suit 1: Bengals.

Suit 3: Frampton?

Suit 1: I wish. But that guy won't leave Indian Hill for less than 10 grand.

Suit 2: How about Jake Speed and the Freddies? Nothing says progressive, forward looking city like a charming rag tag bunch of guys who pretend it's the 19th century!

Suit 1: Done. Make sure they mention Frampton though.

^thats pretty funny!

Tonight, I was listening to random songs by Over the Rhine that I have loaded into iTunes.  I never really noticed the song lyrics below until tonight.  This is off of their first album, so I assume they still lived in Over-the-Rhine when they recorded this.

The Genius of Water

words: Bergquist

music: Bergquist and Detweiler

recording: Till We Have Faces

meet me in the morning

at the bus stop

we'll ride into the town

down to the square

to see the angel

see the angel in the fountain

meet me in the morning

meet me after daybreak

tie your hair back

we'll drift into the crowd

get lost among the loud

and they'll be singing

they'll be singing in our daydream

when we're tired we'll leave them

all behind and walk away

i love you a lot

meet me in the courtyard

where the saints pray

musing in our stare

still painfully aware

that there are others

shoulds and woulds with names and faces

close your eyes and open up your mind

and hear me say

see the angel

she's dancing in the water

hear the angel

she's laughing in the water

something in the way that you

said you really felt that we could be

good friends forever

...together for a long time
