July 20, 200618 yr I understand there's even a stadium northside...of course, I went there for two years and never once actually saw the thing... I actually have no idea what the old logo looked like, either... Hmm...was this it? Ha, ha...actually, here's a shot of it:
August 31, 200618 yr I did not go to Case. I will say the stadium is sweet and it is very cheap to see a college football game. You will never have a a problem getting seats. I recommend it.

September 28, 200717 yr I don't think it's worthy of it's own thread yet, but Case Western Reserve is kicking some ass this year in Fall Sports. The men's soccer team is ranked 2nd in the country and the Case Football team is 4-0 for the first time in 22 years. Who would have thunk it?..honestly, I think the investment of the new Northside Village and athletic field has helped recruiting over the past two years since its gotta be one of the nicest d3 facilities in the country. Yes, it is time to stop the presses when CWRU is ranked, as the Spartans enter Saturday's 1 p.m. opener at Kenyon - anywhere from No. 10 to No. 19. School officials believe the most recent time it happened was in the mid-1980s. "The right thing to say is I believed it could happen when I went to Case," said quarterback Dan Whalen. "But no, I didn't expect us to be ranked. One of my high school coaches told me when I was going to Case that I'd get a great education, but don't expect a championship." http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/blog/index.ssf/2008/09/making_their_case_soaring_spar.html

September 8, 200816 yr Yeah, people actually go to Case football games now..... They didn't used to. I went to exactly one game in my four years at Case (1998-2002). Last year I went to three. The team is obviously much better and the new stadium is a great place to watch a game.

September 18, 200816 yr ^I was at the game. Case really dominated Rochester, much more so than the stats may indicate (although the final score does indicate this). Case's special teams were far better than Rochester, as well as Case's backup QB (Baum) being far better than Rochester's starter. Next week should be a great game at Oberlin. Oberlin gave #14 Washington and Jefferson a battle in their first game.
September 20, 200816 yr #18 CASE 48, OBERLIN 21... Don't think we'll be moving up in the polls because nobody lost at the top, but if we close out our 21st straight regular season victory next week in St. Louis, playoffs are certainly in the mix, and hopefully a home game! #10/13 CASE 38, CARNEGIE MELLON 13... CLEVELAND, OH (November 8, 2008) - No. 10/13 Case Western Reserve University won its 20th consecutive regular season football game and improved to 9-0 on the season today at Case Field with a 38-13 University Athletic Association (UAA) victory over Carnegie Mellon University (4-5, 0-2 UAA) in the Academic Bowl. The Spartans improve to 2-0 in the Association and now travel to St. Louis and Washington University (5-4, 1-1 UAA) on November 15th to defend their 2007 UAA Championship. Case Western Reserve, who entered today with the ninth best scoring offense (43.0 ppg) in the nation (NCAA Division III), keeps the Academic Bowl Trophy in University Circle for the second consecutive season for the first time since they won back-to-back games over the Tartans in 1995 and 1996. After a sophomore kicker Sam Coffey (Middletown, OH) 27-yard field goal, junior defensive back Bobby Bott (Grafton, OH) scored Case Western Reserve's fourth defensive touchdown of the season with a 35-yard interception return that put the Spartans up 10-0 with 1:43 left in the first quarter. From there, junior quarterback Dan Whalen (Willoughby, OH-pictured) threw his 16th and 17th touchdown passes of the season, in the second quarter to give Case Western Reserve a 24-0 advantage at the half. Whalen found junior receiver Tim Cowdrick (Mentor, OH) from 48 yards out at 5:59 and sophomore receiver Shaun Nicely (Willoughby, OH) on a 29-yard strike with 1:17 left in the half. Carnegie Mellon’s first score in the game was on a sophomore running back Anthony Ruzga's one-yard run with 4:55 left in the third quarter. And after Whalen scored the Spartans fifth touchdown of the game on a three-yard touchdown run with 1:16 left in the third, Tartan junior quarterback Phil Pantalone threw a 60-yard bomb to sophomore receiver Jonathan Staso to begin the fourth and cut the Spartans’ lead to 25, 38-13. Whalen completed 21-of-29 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns [one rushing] while Cowdrick had five catches for 102 yards and one touchdown. Junior linebackers Lee Sasala (Kittanning, PA) and Jeff Brown (North Olmsted, OH) led the Case Western Reserve defense with 11 and 10 tackles, respectively. Bott’s interception in the first half was his seventh of the season. He is one pick shy of tying the single season school record of eight [Tom Olsavsky in 1984, John Polivka in 1986]. http://www.case.edu/athletics/varsity/sports_men/football/stats/2008/story_09.html
November 16, 200816 yr http://www.case.edu/athletics/varsity/news.htm#s1_page2 CASE FOOTBALL TEAM WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE UAA TITLE... CLEVELAND, OH - For the first time in 18 years (1990), the No. 11/12-ranked Case Western Reserve University (10-0, 3-0 UAA) football team will travel home from St. Louis, Missouri with a victory over Washington University (5-5, 1-2 UAA). The Spartans defeated the Bears 17-0 this afternoon at historic Francis Field to capture their second consecutive and third (1996, 2007, 2008) overall University Athletic Association (UAA) title. niceThe win also completed the Spartans second consecutive undefeated season [10-0], extended their school-record regular season win streak to 21 games and most likely secured Case Western Reserve its second straight trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The NCAA will announce its 32-team field and pairings tomorrow between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. on ESPNews. The cold and windy day began with a nine-yard touchdown run by Spartan sophomore running back Derek Bush (Kittanning, PA-pictured on page one) with 1:08 left in the first quarter. The score, Bush’s second of the season, would put Case Western Reserve up 7-0 and would be the only points of the first half. The Spartans topped Washington U. in total offense 210 [41] to 53 [32] in the first 30 minutes, but couldn’t manage to find the end zone more than once. After having a 37-yard field goal blocked in the second quarter, sophomore kicker Sam Coffey (Middletown, OH) split the uprights from 45 yards out to begin the fourth quarter (14:55) and put Case Western Reserve up 10-0. Senior quarterback Dan Whalen’s (Willoughby, OH-pictured above) one-yard touchdown leap with 5:59 remaining in the game would secure the win for the Spartans. It was Whalen’s fourth rushing touchdown of the season and 21st overall [17 passing]. The Case Western Reserve defense was stellar recording its first shutout of the season. Junior linebacker Lee Sasala (Kittanning, PA) led the efforts with a team-high seven tackles while junior defensive back Bobby Bott (Grafton, OH) and junior linebacker Jeff Brown (North Olmsted, OH) had six each. Freshman defensive lineman Dale English (Middleburg Heights, OH) added two sacks and two tackles for a loss. Junior running back Greg Meyer (Clearwater, FL) led all Spartan rushers with 68 yards on 12 carries and sophomore wide receiver Shaun Nicely (Willoughby, OH) and junior wide receiver Tim Cowdrick (Mentor, OH) each had 30 receiving yards. Whalen finished the day 11-of-21 for 116 yards. The playoffs were announced - home game next week against Wabash at Case Field! On a side note, for all the alums out there, I had the strangest experience this week as a prospective student told me that the main reason he's looking at attending is because of the reputation as one of the best D3 football programs with good academics too... Weird.
