September 27, 20222 yr Nice interview on the Crain’s podcast “Cleveland Museum of Natural History president and CEO Sonia Winner thinks the $150 million transformation the museum is undergoing will provide a model for other natural history museums. Winner talks with The Landscape about how this major renovation will allow for a more immersive, hands-on experience for museum visitors, which she hopes will encourage a life-long interest in science and nature.” https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-landscape/id1562190141?i=1000580430324 Sorry for the Apple link When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

December 6, 20222 yr Is anyone going to be there tomorrow to take some good pics? I'm bummed out I'll be traveling out of town tomorrow so I can't attend.
December 15, 20222 yr Great shot @sonisharri! The entrance looks really awesome and a nice compliment to the art museum.
February 5, 20232 yr I know we already got a pic of this new entrance further up in the thread but I was walking by the other night and was really impressed how nice it looks!! Can't wait for the full reno to be done.
February 6, 20232 yr $3 million donation to further enhance planetarium at Cleveland Museum of Natural History Published: Feb. 06, 2023, 12:51 p.m. By Paris Wolfe, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Nathan and Fannye Shafran Foundation has given the Cleveland Museum of Natural History a $3 million gift to support renovations and technological upgrades to the Nathan and Fannye Shafran Planetarium. This gift to the Museum’s was made by the Shafran’s children and their spouses: Joe and Marla Shafran, Joan Shafran and Robert Haimes, and Paula Krulak. Upcoming improvements, made possible by the latest donation, will make planetarium show -- “Unfolding the Universe” -- brighter and sharper. The planetarium was recently updated including a software upgrade to Digistar 7, a repainted interior, and new seating. The current presentation, which highlights NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, is included in the general admission price. The planetarium’s improvements support the integrative educational approach of the museum’s new Planetary and Biological Processes Wings, which will be unveiled in 2024 as part of the Museum’s ongoing transformation. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2023/02/3-million-donation-to-further-enhance-planetarium-at-cleveland-museum-of-natural-history.html Edited February 6, 20232 yr by MuRrAy HiLL
February 7, 20232 yr Not to post *even more* photos of the CMNH entrance, but the new wing is looking good... (2-7-23)
May 30, 20232 yr Great photos, @Paul in Cleveland. This complex fits so well in its environment. When viewed from the Oval it seems to grow out of its natural setting. What a dramatic upgrade from what it was when I first saw it decades ago. Thanks for posting
May 30, 20232 yr The museum is so light-filled inside now! A total turnaround from the days when it was very dark and gloomy. I will say that I don't suggest going to it anytime soon; wait for next year. The outdoor area with the wildlife rehab stuff is super cool, and the planetarium is great as always, but there are like ... no REAL exhibits anywhere. I assume those are all coming back with the final phase. Sort of odd that they're even open now, as there's not a ton to see or do there ... yet. (Well, maybe on June 10 for Parade the Circle, as it'll be free that day, lol.)

October 14, 20231 yr Some sort of swanky event happening yesterday (10/13) at the museum so I couldn't get too close, but managed to get some pictures anyway. This thing is a beaut! Edited October 14, 20231 yr by Geowizical
October 14, 20231 yr Now THAT’S good design-inside and out! This building seems to fit perfectly in its setting. Kudos to the museum leadership. WOW!
January 19, 20241 yr Decided to walk over after a trip to the CMA to grab some pics. I think the glacier motif comes through incredibly strongly with snow on the ground, and I really love the ground treatment right in front of the glass. From the other side of Wade Oval it honestly reminded me of Deer Lick Cave, with the dark glass lurking below the swooping white curvature of the roof.
January 19, 20241 yr I'm excited for this project to be finished. I brought my kids there 2 months ago and there's not much on display during construction.

I've been wanting to go over to visit during construction because I saw they had new parts open already I thought I would be able to see some cool new wings. Might have to wait until later this year I guess.
January 19, 20241 yr Wow, do those @Pleco pix ever make the winter look good! Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

Yeah I went about a month ago and there wasn't much to see, although we mostly went for the animals lol They have their three main exhibits still in the works: space, geology/earth sciences, and one other I can't remember (wildlife I think?), all set to open December 2024. If you want the full experience, wait until then I reckon. That being said the entire expansion is amazing and world-class inside and out, and even though there wasn't much to do when we went it was still super busy which is good.
January 19, 20241 yr we went to one of the planetarium shows last month, I thought it was really cool. and agree even though there wasn't a ton to see, enjoyed walking around the limited space that's open.
December 13, 2024Dec 13 GRAND OPENING this weekend. (we’ll be there!) As seen on the TODAY show today:
December 15, 2024Dec 15 I was there today and it was incredible. They did a great job with the addition. Doesn't look anything like the old museum and looks incredibly polished.
December 15, 2024Dec 15 I will have to check it out. Haven't been there in a long time. I remember it being dark and dreary. Edited December 15, 2024Dec 15 by LibertyBlvd
