May 11, 20223 yr I do think that would be successful and it's crazy to me that since Taco Bell and Wendy's went away there are no fast food restaurants downtown. Fountain square is great in the summer when food trucks show up and you can grab a seat on the square, but having a year round draw, that's cheaper/quicker than the Court street Kroger food hall would be huge. Personally I would like a breakfast fast food option. With Panera gone as well, Starbucks and Dunkin are the only quick breakfast options.

Yes I completely forgot about Panera closing, so even more sq. ft. I remember back in the day when Arby's use to be down in the general area too. I just think we could easily leverage Ohio based companies like Wendys, Charleys, Sbarro, White Castle to come downtown. Are these the sexiest chains? No probably not, but easier to convince a company to do something in there backyard then across the country. Also thunderdome has a couple of fast casual concepts that would work nicely too.

It’s my understanding that 5/3 does not want a true fast food chain on* Fountain Square. Chipotle and a Potbelly-ish kind of concept is about as far as it wants to go in that lane. They hate the idea of a Taco Bell, White Castle or such and I kind of understand why. They had a “upscale” local tenant lined up for the old rockbottom but the deal fell thru. I can see them doing something fast food In the old Panera but not in the rockbottom location.

At first sight I agree but when I think about it a little more I’m leaning on the No side. The Banks has Burger-Fi and Fountain Square has Bru-Burger and a block from that is Walburger. Downtown doesn’t need a Shake Shack they need to do Kenwood or something. If it did open downtown I can guarantee 2 of those businesses above will close.
May 11, 20223 yr I think a second City Bird location would do well there if they split the space up and there are enough other local options to put two or three local chains there, maybe a downtown LaRosas or something. In the Panera space I would like to see national chain like McDonalds or Wendy's or something that allows easy fast food for tourists/hotel guests in that part of downtown, cheap food for people waiting for the bus, and just downtown people in a hurry.

Something like Austin's Royal Blue Grocery can go such a long way to making urban/walkable areas that aren't eligible for a supermarket that much more livable and convenient.
