Not really. Their core customer is extremely price sensitive. Food and labor costs costs are pretty much kiiling off any low priced non-fast food concepts pretty quickly. Guest won't allow you to raise the prices, so you drop the quality....after you've removed any perks from your employees.  Guest complain service and quality have dropped. Stop going. Business closes. These impending closures have been easy to spot over the last 5 years as I've eaten at frischs, and I'm betting theres lots more of these closures on the way.

$9.99 is a big price barrier there.

Frisch's was a terrible place to work.  The customers were unbelievably cheap.  I was a bus boy for 18 months and only earned a single $1 tip in that time.  A $5 tip was very rare for the waitresses.

Most businesses cannot live in a world of pennies like they could even 10 years ago. One reason I shut my stores down is the average price of an item in the store was in the 3 dollar range. People would bring in a giant pile of stuff and there wouldn't be a single thing in there that sold for more than 10 dollars. You can't do that anymore unless you have Dollar in the name and have some unincorporated hamlet by the balls.

All true. I'd have servers fighting to seat us. They knew we tipped well.

I remember these Wednesday night church groups coming in, 15-strong, leaving a $2-4 tip.  They would get argumentative with the waitresses, saying stuff like "we're bringing you all of this business...".  Also, people would come in around 7:50pm, order a coffee, take up a booth for 2-3 hours, and leave 50 cents.

Clueless rubes.

Frisch's has introduced some new at or below $9.99 options this year.  The salad bar was dropped to $9.99 and was lowered as an add on as well.  Those $8.99 baskets are also a pretty good deal.  I've seen some billboards recently advertising two chicken tenders with fries and a drink for $4.99.  Doesn't get much cheaper than that these days.

Bouquet, Lisse owners partner to form Holland Farms Restaurant Group with four new concepts planned

A new restaurant group formed by the operators of two Covington eateries will open four new concepts this year and next with major renovations planned at its Mainstrasse mainstays.

A partnership, finalized earlier this year, came about in large part because of Covid. Stephen Williams, the longtime operator of Bouquet, a farm-to-table eatery, said the pandemic pushed him to his limit.

In January, he approached Hans Philippo, owner of Lisse, a high-end Dutch-inspired steakhouse and his across-the-street business neighbor in Mainstrasse Village, about potentially working together.

The conversation ultimately led to the formation of Holland Farms Restaurant Group.

Shake Shack sets targeted opening for first Cincinnati-area location in Liberty Township

A restaurant chain with a cult-like following has announced a targeted opening for its first Cincinnati-area location.

Shake Shack, a popular New York City-based fast-casual chain known for its cast iron-cooked burgers, said it will debut in Liberty Township this fall. It did not give a more exact date.

The news comes 18 months after the Business Courier first reported on plans to bring the concept to the region. The company stayed mum on the news even though Mike Schuchman, a developer with Alrig USA, said his firm had a signed a lease for the property.

What was this restaurant at 1355 (even though Google says 1335) Hopple in Camp Washington?

@ryanlammiand I grabbed food from Camp Washington Steak and Lemonade today. It was good, but we couldn’t tell what the place had been in its past life.

Street View shows it as “Yummy Chinese” in 2007, but it had to have been something before that.

Our best guesses were: Hardee’s, KFC, Arthur Treachers Fish and Chips, or Long John Silver’s.

But then @ryanlammifound the attached 1993 photo on the County Auditor’s website (and a 2003 record showing the place as a catering company).

Other photo is what the floor looks like inside (Burger King Vibes).

IMG_3520.jpeg

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Hardee's since it lacks the signature architectural elements of period locations of the others. Treacher's had a distinctive feel to them as well and a tiny dining room by modern standards.

As a Daytonian, that is blatantly a Hardee's.

Actually I believe that might have been a Burger King.  I remember riding my bike there in 8th grade and buying a burger with a $1 bill tucked in my sock.

There was also a Dinner Bell in that area, but I can't remember where.

This is a large property in potentially a great location, if one could acquire and combine it with the Rest Inn property next door I could see a large apartment complex going there. In between Northside and Downtown and not much further from UC’s campus than the Forum with a bike path directly to campus.

IIRC, the property owner who is building the student oriented housing at Marshall owns more parcels to the north which could potentially become a phase 2. I don't think they own anything north of MLK but it if a phase 2 does happen it would be interesting to see if it leads to a domino effect.

Golden State Tacos sets opening in Terrace Park

Hoity Toity Donut readies for its grand opening in Walnut Hills. Take a peak inside

It’s been a long time coming, but Susan Coach is just days away from opening her first brick-and-mortar store. Coach first secured the space at 2459 Gilbert Ave., at the corner of East McMillan Street, in 2019. The pandemic, permitting and construction delays pushed the targeted debut multiple times.

IDK how this place managed to survive Corryville's high-crime period but is somehow now unknown to UC students despite being surrounded by them.

Dude - advertise to students.  Keep the bar open until 2am like Murphy's.  Duh.

Yeah I'd venture to guess the new owner will make a more concerted effort towards UC students. Curious to see who it is.

B&A Kitchen also announced they are closing today, that place always seemed busy so this came as a surprise. Sad times in OTR.

Sucks about B&A, I really liked that place.  The people who owned and ran it lived above the restaurant but it looks like they are putting the entire building up for sale.  I wonder if they are moving somewhere else or just don't want to run a restaurant anymore.

All Hail the Biscuit to shutter as owners plan to expand sister concept into space

Ché O’Bryonville to relocate in neighborhood with expanded menu

A Cincinnati bar and restaurant group is relocating and expanding one of its more popular food concepts. The move will open up space for a new commissary and test kitchen in the same neighborhood.

Ignite Entertainment’s Che O’Bryonville, known for its empanadas, snacks and sandwiches, will relocate next door to the group’s Pampas Argentine Gastropub space at 2038 Madison Ave. later this month. The location offers a larger dining room, expansive bar and private event space, and items from both concepts will be incorporated into the future menu.

Che’s current home, fronting O’Bryon Street, will be simultaneously transformed into a commissary, offering space for catering production, a tasting room and a test kitchen. It will be rebranded as Nuestra Cocina, which translates to “our kitchen.”
