Went by Vinyl last Saturday for drinks following dinner at Gajah Wong....Vinyl is still very much closed.

I heard they had a little problem with CPD/liquor control, which compared to the crack dealers around the corner seems like a real good use of resources.  :?

Can you explain a little more?

^

Apparently CPD sent an underage undercover to buy booze.

Not the highest priority on my list, especially given some of the other problem bars in the neighborhood where people are getting shot in *cough* Martin's *cough*.

No kidding!

That's pretty weak.

so can I get some advice on Teak's in Mt. Adams.  What kind of atmosphere is it?  Good food?  I love Thai food and have not been here so I want to go Friday night.  Good date restaurant?  Reviews, comments welcome, thanks!

I really like Teak for lunch because it is cheaper and you still get a large lunch portion.  It is good for dinner, but a little spendy.

I think the atmosphere there is great, the food is great, and the location is great.  Plus you're in close proximity to all the bars and nightlife of Mt. Adams for after dinner.

I love Teak Thai and am a big fan of their sushi believe it or not.  It is a great place to take my family because my wife loves Thai and I love sushi.

I like the Green Papaya in Oakley for Thai and sushi.  You can BYOB there too which cuts cost....

Umm. . . Holy Basil anything at Teak is well worth the drive from Virginia . . .

Olives is worth the trip to Ludlow Garage

BY ANNE MITCHELL | CITY BEAT

September 26, 2007

CLIFTON - There's a lot to like about Olives at the Ludlow Garage. This new independent restaurant occupies the space that used to be Uno's in Clifton, and a big space it is. The wood floors are gleaming and the menu is impressive and diverse with salads and sandwiches for the pre- or post-Esquire Theatre crowd, as well as excellent entrées.

Cuisine blends East, West

Korean restaurant folds in U.S. ingredients

BY STEPFANIE ROMINE | [email protected]

Sung J. Oh is breaking the rules of Korean cuisine by merging the food he loves with the country he now calls home at his new restaurant in downtown Cincinnati, Sung Korean Bistro, which is set to open Wednesday.

"We're going to buy every different kind of country's ingredients, but it has to come out and be mixed with the Korean base ingredients," said Oh, chef and co-owner of the restaurant at Seventh and Elm streets. "I'm living in the United States, I want to show people what you can do out of my cuisine."

Via Vite fires up father, son

BY LISA BIANK FASIG | CINCINNATI BUSINESS COURIER

DOWNTOWN - Six months into construction and about a half-million dollars over budget, Nicola Pietoso is certain - well, pretty much certain - that his much-awaited Via Vite restaurant, a crown jewel of the renovated Fountain Square, will be burning wood by Oct. 12.

Diner: Review: Molly Malone's (Covington)

New Irish import could use a little more old country flavor

BY LORA ARDUSER | CITY BEAT

October 3, 2007

COVINGTON - When I prepare to go to a new restaurant I often look for a menu online. I genuinely get excited by descriptions like "steamed mussels in garlic white wine, fresh herbs and cream" or "chicken and vegetable pot pie with chunks of chicken and vegetables in a thick sauce topped with a pastry crust." Descriptions like these whet my taste buds and I arrive at the venue ready to be won over by savory morsels and a well-rehearsed staff.

Sometimes, unfortunately, fantasy and reality don't quite mesh. Such was the case when I visited Molly Malone's Irish Pub & Restaurant in Covington.

See link above for article.

Importantly, it will serve lunch and feature a late-night menu, serving until 1 a.m. during the week and 2 a.m. on the weekends. "The plan is to bring a whole lot of activity," Pietoso said.

Excellent news! Late night dining downtown!

I guess I'll be spending less time at the Anchor Grill in Covington!  :-D

Went to Sung on Friday (which is also planning to stay open late - 1:30am on the weekends), and it was fantastic - and not too expensive.  Highly recommended!

Sung looks very cool from the outside...nice addition to that part of downtown.

is sung in the old aioli?

^ yep.

I can't wait to try it!  :)

Mr. xumelanie and I were walking around the CBD last night (and ran into Cincy-Rise).  It looks like Graeter's on the Square is ready to open any day now.  There were people inside, maybe they were training?

Another thing we noticed were signs in the old Atlanta Bread Company on 4th and Walnut.  The signs said that Mythos was coming soon.  This was a surprise to me because they just opened a store a block away.  Not complaining, though.  :)

Yeah you can't miss Mr. Cincy-Rise, he usually has his head down texting someone.  In fact if you ever want to get a hold of him, texting is the only way to go.  ;)

^ Pfsh ...

... Cincy-Rise is no more btw ...

I saw the same sign yesterday as well.  It read "Mytho's Grecian Grill", which is the same name they use on the place over in Newport. Based on the windows with signs in them, it looks like they may be using the entire space. Maybe it will be more of a table service place with evening hours.

Mythos in Newport is closed, I think. The number is disconnected at least.

Greek eatery shifts

Mythos starts plans for fourth location downtown

BY STEPFANIE ROMINE | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER

October 11, 2007

DOWNTOWN - Mythos Grecian Grill will open a third location in downtown Cincinnati at the site formerly occupied by Atlanta Bread Co.

Owner George Psihountakis said his latest eatery, expected to open by the end of November, is something Cincinnati needs more of - a "middle-class restaurant, not four stars and five stars."

See link above for article.

^ I really hope they are open more hours than their other stores.

Mythos hours are awful.  They need to be open later to gain me as a regular customer

Mythos hours are awful.  They need to be open later to gain me as a regular customer

Exactly!  I have only eaten there once because of their hours.  I enjoyed my meal there, so the hours is truly the one reason I have not been back.

Not only would it have to be open later, it would have to be much better tasting than the old spots to keep me from going to Jordan Valley.  It's super casual, but one of our favorite places to go downtown.

I knew Omar and Akhmed at Jordan Valley.  They are great guys!

Just remember, you heard about the new location on Urban Ohio first from xumelanie, a day before it hit the traditional press.  That's what I like about this board, 1500+ reporters on the streets.

Anyway...

I tried Mythos for the first time this week at the Vine street location.  The Gyros wasn't bad, but I think the one I had over at the place on Elm street was better (plus you could get fries there). The Mythos gyros seemed light on sauce and too heavy on onions. However, I wish them well at all their new locations.  I'd still go there just as a convenience.  It's still much better than getting someting from a fast food place like McDonald's (but it's still just as fast).

If you want the best Gyro in the city...head north a bit and visit Chicago Gyros at McMillan and W. Clifton.

^I don't like Gyros much but THANK GOD they remodeled the place. Or did they? The second time I went there it seemed MUCH nicer! Of course anything CHICAGO can't be bad.

They did remodel, as well as, clean up their facade.  I believe they took advantage of the facade improvement program that many businesses, in that area (Bagel Brothers, Clifton Heights Savings & Loan, Mac's, Lance's Art Supplies, etc) seem to be taking advantage of.

As much as I like Chicago Gyros, nothing can touch Sebastian's on the West Side.  Sooooo good.

I am a westsider and I have to say FALSE to that.  The sauce just isn't comparable, imo.

nothing can touch Sebastian's on the West Side.  Sooooo good.

Is that before or after you hit up western bowl/play cornhole and drink beer in your back yard?

Sorry couldn't resist a west side stereotype tsk tsk

Sebastian's sank along with 'fore and aft.

Rando,

Watch out, or your westsider credentials are going to be revoked.  Just don't let on that Boudinot is just like all the other LaRosa's and you might be OK.

David,

Before.

I will take up arms with Sebastian's as well.    Good shit!!!

You disappoint me Rando!!!

Has anyone heard anything about the Rise and Shine Cafe on 6th Street?  They've been closed for almost two weeks now, and a sign in the window says that they are closed for emergency repairs.

It looks like the Rise and Shine Cafe is open again.

The only place I ever go out of my way to visit on the West Side is Price Hill Chili, are you telling me there is another worthy place for me to visit?

Graeter's opened today as a dry run.  They are having their grand opening on Monday.

Also, I'm taking my claim as the first forum member to patronize the new Graeter's with an official receipt time of 11:40am.

Try Sebastian's if you like Gyros!    Less than 1/2 mile toward Glenway Crossing from PHC.  On the left across from a BP station
