Yeah Chris well how do you explain the black girl's number I met there that I still have in my phone?  But yeah that place is awful.

I never went to the Cincinnati one, given the scene in Columbus, although I did notice somebody punched out a front window recently.

McFadden's to become BlackFinn

THE ENQUIRER

DOWNTOWN - McFadden’s downtown will become a BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon, a chain of Irish pubs that was established in New York City in 1994, according to the BlackFinn Web site and employees at McFadden’s.

Hey, there's always a pepper in every salt shaker.  How do you explain a black guy running a website called UrbanOhio?  Oh, I get it, "urban."

Oh, and I just want to preface to all the guests and new members, ColDay loves the white folks!  Just not the ones at McFadden's :).

Its alright, ColDayMan. I am white and I didn't like the whites blacks people at McFadden's either.  That bar was like a yuppie frat party without free beer.

I liked it because it was a neutral place to take my parents\grandparents\outoftown guest for dinner.

You ought to be ASHAMED of yourself!  Your grandparents deserved better!

I went to the blue wisp for the first time last week and thought it was pretty cool. The quartette was really good! The environment was okay. the beers were 4 dollars for a bud light draught, and they didn't have any Christian Moerlien so that sucked. All in all it was a good experience and i would go back.

When i was there I thought that the building was okay, but for the amount of empty stock in cincy i would like to see it in a cooler building with a little more atmosphere. Something similar to what they had at La Normandy before they closed would be awesome. Just a side note, but isn't their lease running up here soon? I also noticed that the building looked like it could have been a car showroom and my dad said that he thinks he remembers like Queen City Cevy being there.

That is right.  The blue wisp used to be on garfield place and was much seedier/awesome jazz club.  Check out the Jackson street underground at the know theatre if you like jazz.

They have always had Christian Moerlein (Original Lager - bottle) when I've been there.

COVINGTON - Chalk is simple, it's fresh and it's bursting with energy, says the management team of the new restaurant that opened Tuesday night at 318 Greenup St.

re Grammars, this was a recent report re liquor license (looks good):

Martin Wade and Jean Robert have purchased Grammers at 1440 Walnut Street and have applied for a D5 and D6 permit.  They plan to open the bar in February/March.    It is there intent to not open the restaurant at this time, simply the bar (they do intend to serve bratts and metts).  I completed an on-site inspection (what a treat that was, there is some cool stuff in that building).  District One has no objection to the transfer.

If residents wish to object to the transfer, please contact your community council president and have the community council object in writing (via email) to me no later than 1-15-08

^Good news

I saw these posted on the Foodie Report, from the Enquirer:

Cigar patio at Jeff Ruby's downtown

I ran into Jeff Ruby this morning while out on an interview, and we chatted about his new cigar patio. Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse, at 700 Walnut St. Downtown, got new awnings a few months back, then quickly got a second set, as many downtowners noticed.

Those new awnings set the stage for the cigar patio, which will be a comfortable place for diners to enjoy a cigar, a cigarette or just the outdoor atmosphere. The patio won't officially open until the weather improves, but Ruby said he'll have Italian marble lion statues, along with heaters and fans, plus comfortable seating.

Expect more details when the weather improves.

Hathaway's is closed.

Now that I've got your attention... the landmark Downtown Cincinnati coffee shop is simply undergoing planned renovations, said new owner Chris Bronger. The coffee shop -- with all your favorite longtime servers -- should be open by Feb. 4, he said.

No kidding!  I hope they don't get rid of their counters.

I love how more and more places downtown are opening up outdoor patios, one positive side effect of the no smoking ban.

New restaurant, Lavomatic, joins Jean-Robert fold

The latest restaurant to be operated by chef Jean-Robert de Cavel will include a rooftop terrace, a full-fledged wine bar and a name that conjures up dirty laundry.

No link available.

I heard a rumor that Kaldi's bar/coffehouse was moving from their current location on Main St. to Findlay Market, as early as next month.  Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, after Bockfest weekend (Mar 7-9).

^ Thats a bummer.  Kaldi's is by far my favorite bar on Main St.  They draw kind of an artsy crowd, but the atmosphere is much more welcoming than other hipster/trendy bars in the district.  I thought that Main St. was a good fit because of its proximity to the Art Academy and the performing arts theaters.

I'd rather see them open another store instead of relocating.

EDIT: Do you know what will be replacing it?

Agreed on every point.

I would rather seem them stay on Main St., but at least they are staying in OTR.

I dont get the move to Findlay market...I think they'll do well when the markets open but it'll lose a lot of the nighttime traffic and local business.. Not nearly enough residents nearby (with disposible income to spend on a $3 cup of coffee) to support the local component and its too far for the residents of south OTR to walk to..but it's not my business so I wish them the best.

Hopefully another coffee shop/bar will open in their place is the net gain to OTR is +1.

I went to Kaldi's once and enjoyed it, then I came back a second time with my friend but it was pointless because their kitchen wasn't open and we went there specifically to eat lunch. I guess it's only open like Thursday through Saturday or something. We drove all the way down there for nothing. We ended up eating at Izzys (boo!). I hope they expand their kitchen hours when they move.

Does anyone know whats going on across the street from "Bang" and "Boss Cox"?

I saw some construction guys in there this morning...looks like they are starting to do work!

So let me get this straight...they plan to tear down the existing building, and build a brand new one within 8 months?!?!  Good luck with that one...

I think it's Speakeasy and Harry's Pizza that you saw.

^Bang and Boss Cox on are W. 4th Street...Speakeasy and Harry's Pizza, on the other hand, are on Main Street.  So I don't think that is what he's referring to.

Has anyone been to Portifino's, now located on Chase Ave in Northside?  Best gyros in the city, in my opinion.

That's saying something...considering the likes of Chicago Gyro's and Sebastians.  Those guys are some stiff competition.  I'll definitely have to give this place a try though.

Oops!  For some reason I thought I read across street from Cue.

Well i went to The Federal Reserve in its new location in NOTL. And here is my review:

I went to the new federal reserve with my girlfriend over the weekend. We walked in without reservations and were told that it would be about a half an hour wait. So we took a seat at the bar ordered a few drinks. as we were called we took our drinks over to the table with us. We were VERY slowly greeted by our waitress who would soon become my least favorite waitress i have had in a while. She took my drink order, but left before my girlfriend could order. When she brought back my drink my girlfriend ordered hers and we were ready to order. I said "i think we are ready to order". she said wait a few minutes while i go get her drink. . . .i don't know about you, but i want my order put in so that we can get this show moving. . . When she came back she had forgotten my gf's drink so she had to go back again. when we finally ordered we got the fried lobster (which was excellent, whoever told us to get that), i got the strip and she got some pasta thing.  BOTH TASTED EXCELLENT!! the problem was when i got home i was not so happy. I think i received some food poisoning from them that night. I had to go straight to bed and definitely did not feel any better in the morning.

The music was EXCELLENT as well. It gave a great vibe to the whole place. It is mildly well decorated and gives the feel of a little NYC.

The manager came over and asked how everything was, i told him. . . .and he explained that they are still trying to syphon through their employees, which i understand completely. . .

Anyways, my general thought is that this place is OK. . . not good, not bad. . . .i hope that it was a fluke that i got sick, but i probably won't go back. . . i wouldn't recommend it, but i also wouldn't stop anyone from going. . . all in all, not worth the price that you pay. . .  :|

You ordered before your girlfriend?!?!

Ahh yes, a little piece of Manhattan at Newport on the Levee.  Who would have guessed it...

The fact that it is at NOTL should be enough to put your recommendation over the edge from eh, to HELL NO!

haha...thanks Rando

Kaldis lost its vibe under the new ownership.  Jeremy had an awesome beer selection though!! Bummer, probably won't make it up to Kaldis at the new location much until the streetcar goes there.

haha...thanks Rando

Do you guys call him Rando in studio? That would be funny.

Has anyone else seen the new restaurant/deli on Main St. between I believe 6th & 7th or 7th & 8th? I completely forgot the name.

haha...thanks Rando

Interesting how all the locations have, or will be, shuttered except for the two locations closest to the center city.
