I absolutly agree. This area needs to thrive just for the fact it helps the city. The reason I don't dine in KY is because I can't stand the smell of smoke while I eat.
July 3, 200816 yr NOTL just needs to make a new splash. There haven't really been any improvements/changes since it has been open. The whole Bridge Climb fiasco certainly didn't help public perception either. If they were to add on as they propose, draw in a new major tenant, or do something innovative with the river then they could certainly start to fight the downward trend. If they don't, and phase 1a of The Banks opens, consider NOTL toast.
July 3, 200816 yr ^ That's true ... They need to get non-chains in there. I'm talking local food and retail and it looks like they might need to use crazy incentives to seal the deal as well. I think the massive parking lot beside NOTL is horrendous and hurts the levee too.

First, the Coach and Four restaurant in the Edgecliff closed last December 31st, but will be reopened by Martin Wade (a partner of Jean Robert's, who owns Grammer's, as well as parts of Pigall's and Lavomatic) as The Edgecliff Room this summer. Woo hoo! The Coach and Four had everything going for it - location, built-in clientele, view, a great space - except for the decor, food and pricing. It closed down when one of the partners got very sick in 2005. He passed away last summer, but now a guy who was a manager at J. I went inside just to use the bathroom one time, I thought it had a cool layout. I know it's been there for a long time but I'm surprised that no one has ever talked about it on here (from my knowledge).

It is a really cool building but, but there are no city views which is unfortunate. All I really remember about it was there were about 15 different ways to get pork chops.

Those enclosed areas where I guess they fired the ceramics (sorry, I don't know crap about pottery) were made into little private eating areas. I thought it was awesome. Just wondering why no one ever talks about the place - it should be a huge landmark despite not having views. Maybe they just need the right management and chef with a good menu.

July 9, 200816 yr I ate there with my wife one night, and honestly, as cool as you'd think eating in a giant kiln would be? Eh, not really. No views, except in the treeline off the parking lot, the food was utterly unremarkable, and the service was fine, but you were COMPLETELY cut off from your server - no catching her eye across the room when the bourbon was running dry...definitely wasn't worth a return trip for us, given all the other options the city offers. I should have tried Porkopolis, I guess, but never got around to it...
July 9, 200816 yr I have eaten at Porkopolis many times and always enjoyed their food but I will never allow them to put us in the kiln again. I hated it in there and the wait staff forget about you in there. The dining area to the left is much nicer. Sorry to hear that they closed.
July 9, 200816 yr The interior was awesome! The bones of the place are really cool, but my memory of the few times I was at Porkopolis (and Rookwood before that) was that it had ugly worn out carpet, bad tables & chairs, etc. The new owner needs to send all of that back to the 70's.

July 13, 200816 yr My wife and I ate at Pigall's last night for our anniversary dinner. It was the best dining experience I have ever had. Everything was perfect. The service, decor and food were impeccable and the unfortunate part was that the bill reflected that. We ordered the three course prix fixe for $74 a piece and I ended up upgrading (extra cost) the first course to the Foie Gras (amazing) and my wife upgraded the main course to the fillet which was so good we both have to put it up above the Precinct's fillet which is perfect in its own right. What surprised us both was how full we were, even though we ordered the three course, they served us an amuse bouche which some restaurants would have listed as a course in itself. For drinks we stuck with the house champagne. The dining experience was 2 1/2 hours which was the longest I have probably spent in a restaurant. We ate at Pigall's for the first time last night for our five year wedding anniversary. :) We agree that everything was perfect. I highly recommend the place if you want to treat yourself or have a special occasion to celebrate. I do recommend eating light the day of because you will be served plenty of food, and it's rich. Jean Robert is not shy about using heavy cream sauces, etc. It's all delicious.

The daysof fine dining where the patrons show up in suits, tuxes, evening gowns are gone. Downtown does not support the high end style of restuarant the Maisonette represented.

Tazza Mia is where "Fresher Coffee Meets Better Food." Their second location (GoogleMap) opened last week (7/31) and owner Bob Bonder described the spot as a great location, a location so great that it was the lure in bringing his local business to Downtown. Tazza Mia boasts their fresh coffee, and when they say fresh...they mean fresh. They get the raw coffee (aka green coffee...because it arrives in a green color) shipped to their West Chester store direct. Once it arrives they roast it on site and Mr. Bonder delivers the roasted coffee down to the Downtown store every 2-3 days. So while most places brag about their coffee being only 2-3 weeks old, Tazza Mia is talking 2-3 DAYS. The store has a great atmosphere, with great presence at street level (on Vine), interior access from Tower Place, and a really cool lofted second level that I had no idea was there. The second level offers a great place for casual meetings, reading, relaxing, etc. When you go you absolutely need to try their Pot Roast Panini or their Belgian Waffles (straight from Taste of Belgium at Findlay Market). Once you try their super fresh coffee and fantastic food at their great/new location, you'll be saying to yourself..."I love the Tazz." August 13, 200816 yr Blue Ash Chili is moving to Mason to a strip mall at tylersville and aero, across from the Luxottica headquarters. Not sure yet if it is just a second location or a move, but if they are moving it sounds like that block in Blue Ash was finally sold. edit: also, i will be very sad if they are moving, since i will never go out that far to eat there. i always make a point to stop in for lunch if i am in the blue ash area for work.
