Nice!

Awesome!

Went to Mayberry, it was great and good prices.  Will discuss more after election.

Its great that these restaurant owners are investing it taco trucks, but I wish they would stick with authentic Mexican food.  I love Mexican but hate Americanized versions of it.  If you want REAL Mexican food, check out La Mexicana, Nada or Taqueria Mercado.

  • 2 weeks later...

^Great news!  I know that they were close to closing a deal on the old Fresh space, but that building has some serious problems (which is probably why there are no more street-level tenants), and the building owner isn't tending to them.

I do believe that they're looking into a location in NKY too.  I won't say more than that until I know that it's all right to open the hatch.

You have no idea what you are missing.

What's the big deal? It's just crepes.

Anything without chicken is excellent there.

^I recommend the Italian crepe.

Good Morning crepe with a little hot sauce is also very good.

...little kids like the PB&J crepes.

I'm going to go with this is a joke...

You don't like the chicken?

Has anyone been to Take-the-Cake for their lunches or Weekend brunches?  Apparently this was their 4th week.  We went Sunday and got 4 entrees.  I think it is the best brunch in town, hands down.  Very high quality dishes priced about $7.

I have only heard good things about Take-the-Cake's food

Mayberry will be open for dinner this Friday and Saturday.  It is BYOB, be sure to swing by City Cellars at 908 Race St. for some beer or wine if you forget.

Jean-Robert is suing Wade to prevent Wade from suing Jean-Robert!  :| This is getting a bit nauseating to follow. While I know that many do not support Wade _at all_, this isn't doing wonders for Jean-Robert.

Whats the address again?

its right by hamburger mary's on vine.  can't miss it.

Great...thanks!

Dinner has been canceled tonight at Mayberry.

@mayberrycincy: Chef Josh is sick and will not be cooking dinner this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience. DINNER CLOSED tonight.

Uhh...that's why restaurants usually have more than 1 chef.

Yeah, but that's what I love about small little establishments.

^But even when I worked at Honey, even THEY had a backup plan, if the head chef was unable to work.

I don't really see that as a valid excuse.

Just had dinner at Mayberry.  Strong recommendation.  Dinner for two was $40 and BYOB with no corkage fee.  Six small to medium courses, great to share.

My only dislike with Mayberry is that their squatty soft-drink bottles are $1.50... whereas you can get a full-sized bottle for $1 everywhere else. I tend to bring in my own drinks. Otherwise, it's pretty decent food at reasonable prices.

I've loved everything I've gotten from Mayberry thus far.  When I've been for lunch I've had the BLT (amazing), Cobb Salad, and Tomato Basil soup (to die for).  At dinner I shared a 3 course meal with my date for $30 (not including drinks).  With that we had the slow-cooked pork, buffalo slider, and game hen courses.

Word to the wise: The dinner set up is much more formal than the lunch set up.  They add in table cloths, candles, and some formal wear.  I would suggest not showing up in super casual clothes.

^We had the 6 course meal for $40 (combined). Which added a Duck breast and leg course, a pork belly with frank's red hot butter and cheese grits and something else that was good.

Well then ours was probably $20, not $30.  I've already erased that from my memory.

A few days ago, someone sent a tweet saying something like "Grammer's and Christian Moerlein are friends on Facebook.  Too bad they aren't friends in real life."

It's been months since I've been to Grammer's, but I always remember them serving Christian Moerlein beer.  Did something happen?

They haven't for a bit. I found the scene there to be... rather disappointing. And that was before I saw their awful beer choices. I haven't been back after my third visit.

Busken opens downtown bakery

Business Courier of Cincinnati, December 7, 2009

Busken opened a new downtown location today at Walnut and Seventh in a space owned by the Aronoff Center for the Arts.

This marks the fifth time the bakery has opened a store downtown.

Grammers is full of nothing but hipsters, and thus the associated beers.

Grammers is full of nothing but hipsters, and thus the associated beers.

They have a decent draft selection, but the bottled/canned beer is geared to those riding fixed gear bicycles.

Then I see this posted:

"Head-to-head bicycle racing hooked to stationary trainers returns 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at Grammer's Bar"

Some work is being done on the Boss Cox Gastropub space on 4th.  Not sure who is doing it, no work evident on BANG!/Lush.

^Whatever happened to Boss Cox anyway?  I thought it just fell apart.  Are they still planning on opening that?

Owners split up. Joe Creighton (the financial guy) moved on to open The Rookwood in Mt Adams. Daniel Wright  (the chef) Moved on to open Senate and Lance Frye  (former GM) is running the bar at Nada. I'm sure any work going on  it is solely to build a storefront. There was a large degree of structural work the building needed done for any business to use the space that the landlord did not want to take responsibility for, He's probably finally getting around to it.

Okay, this is just too funny.

Let's hear it for hipster beer

Pabst Blue Ribbon has made a comeback during the downturn, becoming the cheap beer of choice among hipsters.

By Beth Kowitt, CNN Money, December 11, 2009

NEW YORK (Fortune) -- At Lutz Tavern in Portland, Ore., the beer-drinking crowd goes through about 20 to 25 cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer on a Friday night. "It's our No. 1 seller, no questions asked, hands down," says Lilias Barisich, whose family has owned the bar since 1954.

Okay, seriously. We were talking about this the other night about Grammer's and their deals with cheap PBR, and how Grammer's has become a hipster's bar. Now I know why! :)

PBR has been a hipster staple since at least '02.  As such, it is something of a tired cliche.

True hipsters have moved on to Blatz.

this is true: http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2009/12/the-evolution-of-the-hipster-2000-2009.html?p=3

If they don't carry true Cincinnati beer, then it ain't worth patronizing! That said, I was impressed with the tap at Mr. Pitiful's. It was a while since I was last there, and it reminds me that I should go there more often. I wish they had booths though.
