Wurst Bar, specializing in sausage, coming to Mt. Lookout

Wurst Bar in Mount Lookout is scheduled to open this summer.

Thats right, Wurst Bar. As in, a bar that specializes in two of Cincinnatis favorite culinary delights, sausages and beer.

The simple but brilliant idea comes from Jeff Mussio and his business partner, Bronson Trebbi.

The duo is renovating a 1,200-square-foot space at 3204 Linwood Ave., next to Millions Cafe. They bought the building last July for $129,500. Trebbi said they are spending several hundred thousand dollars on renovation work. They plan to open in May or June.

I was thinking this could be a cool restaurant addition to Cincinnati until I read that it's owned by the same guy who owns Muz's.  That bar is an absolute joke...attracts a good amount of high school kids.

Seafood restaurant to open in OTR in July

A new urban fish shack and oyster bar, The Anchor, will sail into Over-the-Rhine this summer. Owner and chef Derek dos Anjos said he will open the seafood restaurant in mid-July at 1401 Race St., across from the soon-to-be renovated Washington Park in Over-the-Rhine.

For his menu, dos Anjos will take inspiration from East Coast seafood shacks and his own background: The Wilmington native and 17-year restaurant veteran was part owner of Brooklyn Fish Camp in Brooklyn, N.Y., before he and his wife, Jocelyn, a Clifton native, moved back to Cincinnati with their two young children last year.

At The Anchor, he plans to serve lobster rolls, whole fish, shrimp dishes, clam chowder, fresh oysters and more. Seafood will mostly be sourced from Blue Fin of Louisville, which will fly it in daily and truck it to the restaurant, dos Anjos said.

Mellow Mushroom coming to West Chester

mm-pizza-bakers.jpg

Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is opening its first Cincinnati location this summer in West Chester Township.

The Atlanta-based pizza chain will renovate the former Raffertys, located at 9238 Floer Drive. This is the second location for Kevin Molony, who owns and operates a Mellow Mushroom in Wilder.

The West Chester location, which will hire about 100 people, will have a roller coaster car in the ceiling of the main dining room and customers will be able to watch pizza dough throwers in the kitchen.

Hey mannnnnn... Mellow...

"Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is opening its first Cincinnati location this summer in West Chester Township."

This is incorrect. There is already a mellow mushroom off of 275 in Kentucky (highland heights or cold spring, I think). That's not technically "Cincinnati", but neither is West Chester, and the KY location is much closer to cincy proper. Not that it really matters.

Is Panera still moving into the Arbys on 6th Street?

Only rumors... walked by there today and nothing is going on.

Technically in Wilder, KY. My sister worked there for a bit.

Daveed's is leaving Mt Adams for the Suburbs.  Disappointing.

^But the space is being filled by 'Mantra', from the original owner of Cumin.  Sounds like a solid addition to Mt. Adams, but I wish Daveeds could have stayed too.

Daveed's had great food but the location was not right for the prices the were charging....no parking, not even valet. Cramped seating. Super drafty in the winter. Dated decor. Not much of a view to speak of from the dining rooms inside. Looking forward to this new spot!

^ maybe true, but I'm very disappointed they are going to Loveland instead of Hyde Park, Downtown, etc.

At the same time, you won't hear many people complain.  the restaurant scene in the City is amazing and only getting better.  Farewell Daveeds! Hello Mantra and many others!

Ugh. There are plenty of great restaurants in other cities - Cincinnati is not the center of the food universe, you know. There is a great bakery in Loveland, a fantastic (and authentic) Korean restaurant in Mason and Covington, great wings in Fairfield, ribs along the Dixie Highway south of Interstate 275, great burgers in Eastgate...

I wish Daveeds well in their relocation. Loveland will be a great fit for their restaurant.

Come on Sherman, get real. No one is saying Cincinnati is the center of the food universe or whatever, that's a stupid statement. But if you lived anywhere else or remember downtown and the urban core 10 years ago, you know there are certainly some great food options that didn't exist five and 10 years ago. We went from an urban core that had several great restaurants, world class, but countable on two hands, to dozens and dozens of unique fun new really good places to eat all over. Of course you can find one or two nice places in Mason and I'm sure they're very good, no one is disputing that- but denying that Cincinnati has a great food arsenal that mitigates against the loss of daveeds is silly.

We are at the point now where when we lose a big business downtown to the suburbs, it's really upsetting. But when we lose a restaurant, we know there're dozens of other great options that hadn't been there when daveeds was just opening.

I didn't say that - there are fantastic places to eat at in Cincinnati, and it's a huge improvement from when I moved here just four years ago. Finding a great bite to eat in OTR and downtown was pathetic back then (and it wasn't that long ago), and there are many more options that cater to most demographics within an earshot of most neighborhoods.

I was just replying that some folks are disappointed in that they chose Loveland over a Cincinnati location. There could have been many factors involved. Leasing availability, incentive packages, clientele/demographic, and so forth. It's not so black and white.

^The article I read said that the food at the new Daveeds will be much more casual, and a totally different concept than what is currently there.  Seems like the owners are getting burnt out on trying to be innovative and trendy, so the move to Loveland makes sense.  I hope they locate in downtown Loveland by the bike trail, though.  That is a really cute little area, with some pretty good restaurants already.

Interesting - I guess they updated it. The original article didn't have that and was so terribly written that I only made it through half of the article. Plus, the headline was incorrect (said Daveeds was moving TO Mt. Adams). I hope they locate near the bike trail as well - and if it is more casual, all the better. There are some great restaurants along the bike trail that love those types of customers.

^ The article says "Loveland or Mason," which probably means somewhere around Fields Ertel.  Along the bike trail would be nice, but there's already a few semi-casual type places there, another might be too much.

The place needed serious renovations. Always had a strong lunch crowd. Doesn't seem like a sound business decesion with all that's happening in the area.

^very interesting. If they renovated & reopened, with the new Boca, 21C & everything else happening right there they could be great.

I saw signs in the window at Bartini on my walk in today saying "Closed Until Further Notice."  That's unfortunate--they take up a really big space right there on sixth street.

Daveed’s Next Venture: Daveed’s Next

05/22/12 at 3:52pm

Written by pcampbell

Has anyone ever been to one of the communal tapas tastings upstairs at Daveed’s? They’ve been popular over the past few years, up until Daveed’s closed this spring.

Well, Liz and Dave Cook will be reproducing that experience at their new restaurant,  Daveed’s Next on Columbia Rd in Deerfield Township. They’ll be opening in a tiny space which used to be a Kidd’s Coffee, with room for about 40–including outdoor seating.

Well, let's hope it's good & successful and we get our money back!

I don't know if this is the best place for this, but here is a harmless plug...

St. James Orthodox Christian Church at 6577 Branch Hill-Miamiville Rd. in Loveland, Ohio is having its annual Mediterranean Food Festival June 1st, 2nd, & 3rd.  Looking to build on last year's success, we have moved the festival from late August to the first weekend of June and have expanded the entertainment!

There will be games and rides for the children provided by Murray Brothers, cultural photo opportunities and caricatures, belly dancers, cooking lessons, dance lessons, and Middle Eastern Music playing for your enjoyment all 3 days.  As a special treat we will have Joseph Bashara performing live on Saturday night!

As always we are offering all the great food our loyal patrons have come to expect: fresh falafel, hummus, baba ghanouj, tabbouleh, fattoush salad, fried kibbeh, grilled kabobs, stuffed grape leaves, cabbage rolls, the amazing shawarma and gyro sandwiches, and hand-made decadent desserts.

Join us and experience the wonderful and exciting flavors and culture of the Mediterranean, without having to cross an ocean!

Le’s Pho and Sandwiches to open on Court St.

I saw that they were open last Saturday during the day too. My girlfriend and I walked past and were very confused, since Saturday isn't M-F. Perhaps those are just their lunch hours?

Just did some take-out from there (can do take-out buffet or menu).  The service was a little slow (not too surprising as they just opened), but the food was awesome!

Fusian will be moving out of Tower Place to 600 Vine, right next to Tazza Mia (vacant space just east of it by the alley).  Don't be surprised if a location opens in Clifton as well before year end.

Senate's new brunch menu is now on their Facebook page. Looks kinda 'meh' to me, but I am not a huge Senate fan as it is. Great to see another option in the neighborhood though and I'm sure they will be busy.

Good to hear. I suspected something was up when I was in there a few days ago for lunch. 600 Vine is a much better location - nearly everything in Tower Place has now been closed, and there are I think 4 food vendors left on the ground level and 3 retail stores remaining.
