I don't feel like the Oakley Connection is going to be doing much for the connectivity of Oakley.

“To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

Mayor Cranley described this project as an "urbanist" development because it replaced a parking lot.

Wow yuck. Where in Oakley is that...?

I don't feel like the Oakley Connection is going to be doing much for the connectivity of Oakley.

More like Oakley DIS-Connection!

Wow yuck. Where in Oakley is that...?

It's going basically in the Crossroads parking lot, fronting Madison. So, basically a continuation of the suburban crap behind it.

As disappointing as this whole area is, I will say it was at least nice to see some construction there when I was back in Cincy a couple weeks ago. I hadn't been back in quite some time, and I was surprised to see how little construction was going on (outside of the roads/highways) in the city. I guess I had assumed that a lot of the projects that had been announced a while back would have at least begun construction, but outside of this part of Oakley and pockets of OTR, I really didn't see much happening.

Madisonville is seeing a lot of development with Medpace, the red apartments and the new apartments in “downtown Madisonville”. CUF is also seeing a lot of development around UC and the giant hospital expansion. Soon they will “hopefully” start on the innovation corridor.

Yes that’s true! Happy to see things starting to come together in Madisonville!

A coffee bar and music venue that closed to make way for Top Cats' return to Short Vine is reopening itself in a new location.

The 86 Coffee Bar & Concert Venue is opening at 2900 Jefferson Ave. Owner Chris Human wants to open the space by the end of October. Candy and booze? OTR retailer gets sweeter by adding full bar

An Over-the-Rhine retailer is seeking to become a destination for both kids and their parents by adding a liquor license and full bar to its storefront.

The OTR Candy Bar at 1735 Elm St., across the street from Findlay Market is wading into the alcohol scene, expanding from a candy emporium to a bar.

...

The retailer had to make some changes to secure a liquor license. It worked with local liquor attorney Brad Thomas of J. Thomas Hodges & Associates and opened new, larger bathrooms along with adding benches, sinks and sanitary capacity.

Those kind of gas stations (where the C-store is under the canopy) never have anything good!

Food trucks are a bigger deal in Butler County than they are in Cincinnati.  They've been having periodic food truck rallies in Union Center for years (same location as the Mitt Romney Rally where Kid Rock played), and individual trucks regularly have lunch appointments at the big warehouses with lots of employees.

Probably because in Cincinnati if the food truck is good, it just becomes a brick and mortar restaurant in OTR. In Butler county to build a brick and mortar restaurant you would have to build a brand new building that seats 200 people, in OTR you can fit into a 30 seat space with all the MEP already in place.

Please sous chef opens late night walk-up window in OTR

Here's a very Republican answer: A lot of times the big cities have a ton of regulations regarding food trucks (Columbus, wow what a racket... talk to a food truck owner who isn't "IN" in Columbus) whereas the smaller towns, counties and townships don't. They're not so much food safety regulations either since everywhere has those; its a matter of where they are allowed to set up.

Edited by GCrites80s

^Although if I were the owner of a brick-n-mortar restaurant, I would be very much opposed to food trucks, pop-ups, etc.  Losing one table of customers per day is a loss of $20,000 in gross annual revenues.

L.A. chef who pioneered pop-up dinners launching series in Cincinnati

A Los Angeles chef who helped popularize the concept of pop-up dining before relocating to the Cincinnati region is starting a new series of dinners in advance of opening his new restaurant.

Chef Robert "Bean" Castaneda, who was part of a group of five Los Angeles chefs who popularized the pop-up concept in which chefs create a new menu and bring it to a unique location for a one-night dinner, is launching a new monthly series around Cincinnati. The California native relocated to Covington last year when his wife was transferred to Cincinnati.

"The beauty of pop-ups is you get to discover something that your team is playing with and present it to the guest – it's totally new to everyone involved," he told me.

Iconic Clifton coffeehouse getting new life in its second act

An iconic Clifton coffeehouse is coming back to life as a restaurant and bar – while retaining the coffee shop – under new owners.

Sitwell's at 324 Ludlow Ave. is reopening as Sitwell's Act II on Oct. 30 after closing in early 2018. New owners Florencia Garayoa and her husband, Alex Barden, are keeping the coffeehouse – serving only fair trade coffee from local roasterie Seven Hills – but also reimagining Sitwell's as a vegetarian- and vegan-centric restaurant.

"Sitwell's is a great staple in Cincinnati. We like that and wanted to add our own twist," Garayoa told me.

Has anyone on this board ever had Snappy Tomato Pizza? There used to be one in Fairfax that I'd drive by pretty often, and I'd sometimes think about trying it. But Cincy has too many good pizza options to waste a pizza occasion on something bad, so I never gave it a shot. Their jingle was pretty janky, but very memorable.

The town in Indiana that I grew up in had a number of them.  It's not all that great, it's similar to CiCi's.  The buffet is the only reason to ever eat their pizza.

It suuuuuuuuuuuucks

Snappy's is in England:

Snappy had a great pizza buffet that we did occasionally.  Pizza was OK, but they had some interesting items on that buffet including dessert pizzas and a chili pizza.

This title of the article makes it seem like they closed because lack of business. NewcrestImage decided to buy them out of the last two years of their lease and have also assisted in them being moved to another site downtown. The squirrel owner was bought out of their lease but decided to just call it quits. Once this project is underway it will be a breathe of fresh air for fourth street.

There were only three options for pizza in my hometown and Snappy's was one of them. It was a very distant third place in quality.

Ok, I feel validated in my decision to never check it out! When I lived within a 10 min drive of Deweys, Larosas*, Adriaticos, Pomodoris (RIP ?) and Donatos, there just wasn't much of a reason to try ol' Snappy lol.
