A little birdie tells me that The Davidson is losing employees because they aren't making any money because nobody is eating at The Davidson.  So we're headed toward a second failed restaurant at more-or-less the most prominent corner in the city.

I had to google the Davidson to know what you were talking about, but I think that highlights the problem. That location needs to be more unique, not just generic 'upscale' because that corner is already saturated by upscale established restaurants like Jeff Ruby's, Morton's, McCormick & Schmidts and others. It is a prominent corner, but it's also kind of cursed by being next door to Jeff Ruby's while trying to pull the same kind of clientele.

A review from a friend was so so. I guess they also don't serve dessert (most of thunderdome doesn't serve it apparently) and that's been a big complaint with folks eating there.

How can a place that tries to capture an elevated dining experience not offer dessert? You only need like two options.

The Birch in Terrace Park reopens eight months after fire

A suburban eatery is reopening nearly a year after a fire shut it down.

The Birch in Terrace Park, located at 702 Indian Hill Road, is holding an official grand-opening celebration Saturday, Aug. 24, following a stint of successful soft openings that started last month.

The restaurant and wine bar was forced to close last November when a fire broke out. Co-owner Aaron Tritsch said someone threw a lit cigarette butt in a mulch bed on the side of the building. This caused a fire that spread quickly to the rest of the structure. According to Tritsch, the fire department ruled the official cause as accidental human influence.

Condado Tacos opens fifth location near Kenwood Towne Centre

A popular taco, tequila and margarita restaurant is now open for business in a new Tri-State neighborhood.

Earlier this month, Columbus-based Condado Tacos started welcoming guests to its fifth area location in Sycamore Township at the Gallery at Kenwood, located at 7961 Kenwood Road.

The 4,100-square-foot restaurant sits on the first floor of the new Residence Inn by Marriott that just opened across from Kenwood Towne Centre. The space has 217 seats, including 128 in the dining room, 17 at the bar and another 72 on the outdoor 1,000-square-foot patio.

Sweets & Meats BBQ announces grand opening of Avondale restaurant

A Cincinnati food truck favorite is announcing the grand opening of its first dine-in restaurant next month.

Sweets & Meats BBQ is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new Avondale spot Thursday, Sept. 12. The 2,000-square-foot space is located on the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital campus across from the Ronald McDonald House in the Herald Building on Burnet Avenue.

Co-owner Kristen Bailey said she started soft opening the second-to-last week of August. She offered free food to guests for a few hours a day so her staff could get used to cooking together in the new kitchen without being too overwhelmed. She’s now charging for the meals, but the restaurant will technically be in the soft-opening phase under modified hours until Sept. 11.

I just thought of The Davidson yesterday when I was trying to think of any restaurants that have opened in the core recently that I haven't tried yet. Being next to Ruby's is definitely a challenge, and it feels like Thunderdome tried to put together a concept that was "French and Italian inspired high-end but not a steakhouse" and it hasn't really succeeded at luring people in. Another high end restaurant with a similar style of food (maybe leaning a little more Italian) is Losanti, but they also have steaks, deserts, and an impressive cocktail menu.

Piper's Ice Cream Bar in Covington to stay open year-round

A Northern Kentucky ice cream shop will not be closing for the winter season.

Piper’s Ice Cream Bar, located at 520 W. Sixth St. in Covington, usually shutters between the end of October and March.

This year, co-owner Chip Adkins told me business has been exceptionally great, and he’s already gotten a lot of interest from customers to stay open past the usual season. So, he’s decided to give the winter a shot.

What is happening to Taste of Belgium mirrors what happened to Melt. I bet by 2025 there will just be their core locations left.

Taste of Belgium closes 2 Greater Cincinnati locations months after shuttering another 3

Taste of Belgium has shuttered two more Greater Cincinnati locations, just months after closing three other restaurants.

The local restaurant group announced on social media Wednesday that it's closed the Crestview Hills and Fields Ertel bistros, effective immediately.

Mi Cozumel closes Tri-County Mall restaurant, plans to relocate within Springdale

A locally owned and fast-growing Mexican restaurant chain is moving its flagship location.

Mi Cozumel’s Springdale restaurant within Tri-County Mall has officially closed and will be moving down the street into a former TGI Friday’s.

Diana Jaime, Mi Cozumel’s marketing director and sister to CEO Liliana Jaime, told me the new location is a big step up. The building, located at 11340 Princeton Pike, and most recently home to the Juicy Crab, spans 7,500 square feet with an additional 1,800-square-foot patio.

Findlay Kitchen vendor to open brick-and-mortar brunch restaurant at Findlay Market

A member of Findlay Kitchen will soon live out her dream of opening a restaurant right next door to Findlay Market, reports Business Courier media partner WKRC-TV Local 12.

Findlay Market announced Tuesday, Sept. 3, that Juniper Seed would be the newest venture as part of its Findlay Launch program, which provides brick-and-mortar storefronts to food-related retail and restaurant concepts, according to a news release. The hope is to graduate the concepts to more permanent space.

Juniper Seed, a plant-based brunch and grab-and-go restaurant, was launched as a meal-prep service by Alecia Petroze, who previously worked with Findlay Market as a member of Findlay Kitchen, an incubator for food businesses.
