^ Yes, the site of the old Thai restaurant that was previously a Longhorn Steakhouse.

I googled Buddakhan and got a phone number (513-421-9700).  The guy on the voicemail said the Grand Opening is September 1!

Mexican fast-food chain looking for Cincinnati franchisees

Candidates must have experience, net worth of at least $750,000

BY LISA BIANK FASIG | CINCINNATI BUSINESS COURIER

CINCINNATI - Del Taco, a California-based Mexican fast-food chain known for half-pound burritos and strawberry milkshakes, is seeking local entrepreneurs with restaurant experience, a few million dollars and the patience for slow-cooking beans.

See link above for article.

Del Taco is terrible, too bad it isn't Texas based Taco Bueno.

I've never eaten at Del Taco.  What's bad about it, monte?

When I lived in California, they were all around the Sacramento area.  Think Taco Bell but worse.

^Hey, Del Taco atleast has fries!

Well you are only helping my case, since when does a Mexican restaurant sell french fries?

From the Foodie Blog on Cincinnati.Com..............

Restaurant week is coming...

Maybe you've heard about restaurant weeks in other cities. Restaurants unite and offer deals on (usually) prix fixe meals, at a heckuva good price.

Well, Cincinnati is getting a Restaurant Week, as Polly reported today:

"Greater Cincinnati Independents, a group of local restaurants, will

sponsor a Greater Cincinnati Restaurant Week Sept. 4-8.

The 25 restaurants

in the group will each offer a three-course prix fixe dinner for $25.07. (It's

25 restaurants, and the year is '07.)"

So far, these restaurants are participating: Andy's Mediterranean Grille, Behle Street Café, Bella Luna, Brown Dog Café, Daveed's at 934, deSha's American Tavern and Grille, Encore Bistro and Bar, The Grand Café, Hugo, Jean-Robert at Pigall's, Jimmy D's Steakhouse, Kona Bistro, Mesh, Mike & Jimmy's Chophouse Grille, Nicholson's, O'Bryon's Irish Pub, One Restaurant and Lounge, Pho Paris, Polo Grille, Pompilio's, The Pub at Crestview Hills, Red and Universal Grille.

We'll post more details as we know them, or you can check out the restaurant group's Web site. Make your reservations today!

I'm really glad to see that Cincinnati restaurants have picked up on this concept.  It's a great opportunity to try someplace that you've never been to or can't normally fit in the budget.  I was in South Beach this weekend and they were having their version of restaurant week called Miami Spice.  We ate at Govind Armstong's Table 8 which offered the $35 three course "Spice menu".  It was a great deal since my entree normally costs that much by itself; however, the $18 cocktails will still get you every time   :drunk:

I mean, since when is Del Taco really Mexican?

I spoke with someone from the Potbelly's in Norwood and they said that Potbelly's downtown is supposed to open in November. They delay is caused by staffing issues.

You mean it's not the City/3CDC/transit advocate/crime/poverty's fault?

Of course it is.  Why do think they can't find anyone to work the mean streets of the CBD?

Local restaurant inks deal to sell products at Kroger

August 31, 2007 | CINCINNATI BUSINESS COURIER

CINCINNATI - Lebanese-inspired marinades and salad dressings from Andy's Mediterranean Grille restaurant will soon be on sale at 109 Kroger Co. stores in Cincinnati and Dayton.

The products already have been available at 12 area Bigg's grocery stores. Since March, about 3,000 to 4,000 bottles -- priced at $4.99 to $5.99 -- have been sold, according to a news release from the East Walnut Hills restaurant.

The marinades and salad dressings will be available in local Kroger stores starting Sept. 3. And eventually, the line of products could be expanded to include frozen falafel, coffee beans and other marinades, according to the release.

I wonder who the new tenant is?

Downtown restaurant moving

DOWNTOWN - The Federal Reserve is leaving its location at 4th and Race streets to make room for a new tenant, but the restaurant and piano lounge isn’t playing its swan song.

See link above.

^This saddens me.  The Federal Reserve was always one of my favorite places to take people when they came downtown - the atmosphere was great for a piano bar.  I just hope they stay downtown.

From the sounds of it...it doesn't sound like they plan on leaving downtown.  Rather they are making room for this unidentified new tenant...I would expect for them to open up somewhere else downtown.  It is perfectly suited for that type of environment.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!  That's Walnut Hills, not East Walnut Hils.  Come on, this one isn't even frickin' close...gah.  I guess if it's shi-shi, it couldn't be plain ol' Walnut...

I'm too sensitive about it, I know...but gah...

^Neighborhood boundaries are confusing as hell to me. I wonder if that dressing is available at the "Hyde Park" Biggs muahaha.

It's in one of the "nicer" parts of Walnut Hills. Maybe people associate "nice" and "walnut hills" with "east walnut hills"?

Yeah, that's exactly my guess...which is why it's so frustrating.  I LOVE my neighborhood, good and bad, and it just aggravates the hell out of me when people pull some of its more interesting stuff out of it...if it were borderline, that'd be one thing, but this is as purely Walnut Hills as Peeble's Corner...

You must really hate real estate websites then, they show such little respect to the boundaries of Walnut Hill & East Walnut Hills that they lump them together which is quite annoying.  They they go out of their way to brand the area around Kenwood Mall as Kenwood instead of Sycamore Township.  We all know that there is no such thing as "Kenwood".

Kenwood is unincorporated but it's still used to designate a portion of Sycamore Township. I had a teacher that referred to where he lived as "Kenwood". He lives on Montgomery Rd a little south of the mall though.

I would say "you have no idea," but I know that you understand completely...

I wonder if the East Walnut Hills, North College Hill and North Avondale names came as a result of those areas obtaining a bad rep.

I hope they stay downtown.  The owner seemed very interested in marketing to downtown residents and even had a survey for them to what they are interested in.

Unincorporated as Sycamore Township, there is no such thing as "Kenwood" outside of some branding campaign by the Cincinnati Board of Realtors.

^yes

I wonder if the East Walnut Hills, North College Hill and North Avondale names came as a result of those areas obtaining a bad rep.

I realize this is a tangent, but NCH chose that name when they incorporated to take advantage of the College Hill name.  This was some time around WWI.

North Avondale is the result of a guy named Mitchell (guess which road) opening up a road that led to new subdivisions.  This was within the boundaries of the old village of Avondale--which Cincy had already annexed--and became popularly know as "North Avondale".

I don't know much about EWH.

Unincorporated as Sycamore Township, there is no such thing as "Kenwood" outside of some branding campaign by the Cincinnati Board of Realtors.

Kenwood is known as a CDP (census designated place).  According to the census bureau, CDPs have all of the characteristics of an incorporated city or village but lack a municipal government.  These non-cities became necessary to study due to rapid suburbanization in the 1950s.

As big as Sycamore TWP is, I don't see anything wrong with having a moniker that specifies more precisely where a location is. It obviously caught on.

New life for Grammer's?

Developer owns other Over-the-Rhine parcels

BY JON NEWBERRY | [email protected]

Jim Tarbell, Cincinnati's retiring vice mayor and owner of Grammer's restaurant in Over-the-Rhine, is keeping mum on plans for the property by a prospective owner or owners who have it under contract until Aug. 19.

Tarbell would say only that the historic German tavern is being sold to a developer that will "keep up the tradition of the place." Grammer's has been operated only for private functions since 1992.

I think the deal was supposed to close yesterday, but I haven't heard the final details.  Word on the street is that our favorite chef is involved.

Jean Robert or Dave Falk?  ( I presume you mean Jean Robert) ;)

How many ventures can he run?

New eatery for Rookwood Pavilion

NORWOOD – Rusty Bucket Corner Tavern, a new concept launched by Columbus restaurateur Cameron Mitchell, will open in February at Rookwood Pavilion.

see link above for article.

Sounds like it will be similar to The Pub at Rookwood.....I hope something can be successful at that location.  I have a feeling it might be cursed!  Good visibilty, right next to Starbucks, I don't know why places can't stay longer than a couple of month.

I've been to a Rusty Bucket at the Dayton Mall.  I don't think it was like the Pub.  I noticed mostly American dishes.  I wasn't overly impressed with my food there.

sounds like applebees; and really, who goes to these chain restraurants 'just to hang out' ?

you'd be amazed.....

yea, you'd be amazed.  I know plenty of people that go to applebees for happy hour and just hang out there for their social evening.  the applebees close to osu gets a TON of students.

On a side note, Rusty Bucket's fried pickle things are AWESOME.  I love them esp. at this restaurant.

DOWNTOWN - The Federal Reserve is leaving its location at 4th and Race streets to make room for a new tenant, but the restaurant and piano lounge isnt playing its swan song.

The owners of the 4th and Race Tower purchased the Bartlett Garage (on Race) back in April.  From my understanding, long time patrons of the Bartlett Garage were told that the tower's owner wanted to have the option of turning the building into condos (with parking) at some point down the road.  Not sure how reliable the info is, but it's always nice to dream...

I refer to them as "frickles"  It does seem like an odd combination at first, deep frying pickles, but it works.

I heard yesterday that Jean Robert's restaurant in Gateway is, as reported here somewhere else, not expected to open until April.

Diners getting more alfresco options at downtown eateries

BY LISA BIANK FASIG | CINCINNATI BUSINESS COURIER

September 14, 2007

DOWNTOWN - In more and more downtown restaurants, diners don't have to step far from their salads to fill the meter.

Five downtown eateries filed for special, revocable privileges allowing for outdoor dining service this summer. Two more have filed in the city but outside of downtown. And one more - Cadillac Ranch - has outdoor dining without the special privilege, since the dining is on private property.

Grand addition to N. Ky.

Dining Review

BY POLLY CAMPBELL | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER

September 14, 2007

FORT MITCHELL, KY - The population flocking to new homes in suburban Northern Kentucky has not been accompanied by the opening of enough nice independent restaurants.

At least that's the conclusion I came to after arriving at the independently owned Grandview Tavern and Grille in Fort Mitchell - on a weeknight - and having to wait for a table. The bar was busy with an after-work crowd. The dining room bustled with families, couples and a surprising number of groups of women friends.

Grandview is not a bad spot!

Has anyone heard anything on the status of Vinyl?  My husband and I have tried to go three times recently and they have been closed.  We tried to go twice Friday nights and once on a Saturday night?  Very strange........
