The Quaker Steak and Lube in Milford is hidden.  I bet many people don't even realize there was one in Milford.  With that being said, it will probably do well in Colerain but their wings don't come close to BW3's.

Fast, casual crepe concept coming to downtown Cincinnati

http://www.soapboxmedia.com/devnews/itsjustcrepes0826.aspx

A fast and casual dining option is coming to Cincinnati’s downtown on September 2.

Co-owners Karrah Creek and Keven Paizanoglou are opening It's Just Crepes at 39 E Court Street, the former site of Javier's Mexican Restaurant.

"This concept is sure to blow Cincinnati away!" Creek says.

The menu features both savory and sweet crepe concoctions.

"We're all about the crepe," she says.  "We have taken an already wonderful French product and 'Americanized' it by making crepes including a pizza crepe, a s'mores crepe...I even have a peanut butter and banana crepe called 'Elvis'."

The crepes are folded into a convenient to-go style, so there's no need for a traditional plate and knife.

Creek has been in food and beverage service for over 15 years, and always knew that she wanted to own her own restaurant.

"After hearing Keven's business plan, I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of," she says.

Paizanoglou came up with the concept in Kos, Greece, where he was born and raised.

"He was a regular customer of the island's only crepe place and knew after he moved to the Tri-state area that Cincinnati would be a great city to start this business," Creek says.

After scouting various locations, the partners were attracted to the Court Street Marketplace, where they have updated their building with a fresh, fun and modern feel.

"We looked for 'spots' in many different areas but always knew our business would thrive if there was ample walking traffic," she says.  "When we found the location at 39 E Court Street, we knew right away it was a great place to begin our journey."

It's Just Crepes will be open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.

Awesome, but the limited hours suck.  In DC there is a place called Crepe-Away that is just a 15 minute walk from the GWU campus, and it's open until 4AM to cater to all the drunk college kids and the after bar/club crowd-and that's when it does its best business!

I'm kind of surprised at the hours too.  Many businesses have been extending hours and adding weekend operations.  So this place comes in with the weekday business hours and absolutely nothing on the weekend.  That's like telling the thousands of Downtown/OTR residents to f$#k off.

Amazing East African Cuisine. In Cincinnati. Finally.

http://citybeat.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A146011

"What the hell is it? It's creepy," my dining partner Aaron quietly says when we get our meals at Emanu and he picks up his first roll of injera. Of course, that's almost everyone's first reaction to injera, the spongy bread with the sourdough taste that's the foundation of all Ethiopian food, in any form. And that's why it's such great fun to take people to their first Ethiopian restaurant -- to see their reaction to the bread. Perhaps some of us are just easily amused.

See link above for article.

^except for the fact that Queen of Sheeba, East African Cafe, and Lagano all were in cincinnati within the past four years.

Yup.  I'm always excited about new businesses in downtown and OTR, but it's frustrating when it's another Monday through Friday lunch place.

Just a couple of insignificant updates for those that don't know ...

Chipotle has their sign up, saying "opening soon"

... and it looks there is a new gumbo restaurant opening up across the street from Strauss Tobacconist on Walnut, between 4th and 5th St.

gumbo! sounds significant to me!

speaking of Walnut between 4th and 5th, has anyone mentioned that Balboa's is opening another operation in the old Walnut Street popcorn space?

if not...well, there ya go.

So is there an update on Boss Cox Restaurant on 4th?

From what I understand, they are delayed a little bit. The same guys opened the old rookwood pottery space (which opened for lunch just this morning)

Is the Former Rookwood Pottery back to the name Rookwood Restaurant?  If so, my photos of it on cincyimages.com are current again ;)

Balboa’s serves up second downtown lunch spot

Restaurant to open by Sept. 15 at Fourth and Walnut

http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/09/15/story8.html

Balboa’s Philly Steaks and Pizza, the downtown eatery that specializes in East Coast pizza, cheesesteaks and snack cakes, is opening a second location on Walnut Street that will focus on the block’s bustling lunchtime crowd.

Haven't heard the tally on damage yet, but here are a couple of photos of the Grammer's fire this afternoon.  It started on the fourth floor in the south building (which has the rathskeller).  Looks like the roof held on the north building, so hopefully water damage was minimized inside.

Damn, I hope it is all ok and can be saved.

Sounds like the Rathskeller is a loss, but minimal damage to the original portion and contents.

Chipotle rolling into Norwood

http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/09/15/daily12.html

Chipotle Mexican Grill will place its latest Cincinnati location at the Surrey Square Mall in Norwood, with plans to open at the Montgomery Road center Oct. 3.

The 2,600-square-foot restaurant will seat 64 people indoors, with additional seating on the patio. It is still hiring, but on average Chipotle employs roughly 30 full- and part-time people per location, said Jenna Simenic, a spokeswoman for the public relations agency Lief & Karson Communications, in Cleveland.

Chipotle will partner with Norwood High School to hold a fundraiser on Oct. 2 to benefit the Norwood High School Student Activities Fund.

Denver-based Chipotle (NYSE: CMG), founded in 1993, operates more than 775 restaurants.

It's Just Crepes will be open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.

Good news - they expanded their hours!  They are now open on Saturdays from 9 AM - 1 PM, and they open at 7:30 AM during the week.  Mr. xumelanie and I stopped for breakfast on Friday, and it was good.  I plan on having lunch there soon as well.  I know 1 PM on Saturday is not late, but it's a good start.

Also, my husband and I stopped at Javier's on Thursday for happy hour.  They have some good deals on drinks, and they were good.  The bartender said they plan on starting with a dinner menu next week.  They are currently serving their lunch menu.

They now have happy hour from 4-8 on Wednesday - Saturday.

Kaldi's Kitchen Closed

For those of you that don't already know, the kitchen at Kaldi's closed earlier this week due to construction of an elevator for the living units above. They have some bagels, nachos, and soups; but that's about it. The sounds like the situation is probably a permanent one.

I've become a big fan of Kaldi's. I find it aggravating that a better solution couldn't be found between the developer and a landmark tennant.

:-(

There is a 'Chipotle: Coming Soon' sign up at the new commercial building that's a part of the Stetson Square development in Corryville.  The new store will be at the corner of MLK and Highland directly across from East Campus and the medical block.  I'm pretty sure this is the first retail tenant for the new building.

That's odd.. Chipotle is already a block away.

From Highland and MLK? Where?

You get the point d@mnit

about 1.5 miles

Chipotle, the Starbucks of burritos!

The Chipotle by campus is often backed up by the big fax orders from the hospitals. This would take some pressure off that one.

Chipotle, the Starbucks of burritos!

That's a silly comment, actually.  Chipotle has some of the lowest-costing fast-food around.  On the other hand, Starbucks sells some of the most expensive coffee available for mass consumption.

Sounds good to me.  I'd rather ride the bike over there via Goodman and Eden than to head up Clifton.  It's the sweat factor too.  Don't have to catch a bus to Highland/MLK, if I want to avoid that.

Panera Bread, on Calhoun, experiences the same issue.  I've been lobbying for some time for them to open a Downtown location to help take some of the catering pressure off of the Calhoun location and expand their presence with the corporations Downtown.

I heard that a Chipotle is opening across from JoS Bank & Co, which will take some line pressure off Potbelly Sandwich Works during the lunch hour.

I think Panera would do very well downtown, and I hadn't even thought about the catering side of it.

on the buidling at 4th and race there is an owen's corning sign that says on october 9th "i will reveal my secret" and lists www.iwillrevealmysecret.com, but there is no such website

Me too. I didn't even realize places like Panera and Chipotle did catering. Catering in d/t Cincinnati must be a gold mine.

BTW, the former Uno's building, across the street from the Aronoff, has a new paint job for Bootsy's which looks to be progressing nicely.

Any information on Bootsy's?  Perhaps I should have done a search on it.

Very good! Except I did not know that the Glendale Pub had closed, but Cock and Bull will be a good addition to Glendale.

Much appreciated!

The Fatburger in Oakley is open and much to my surprise it tastes just at good sober for lunch as it does at 5:30 AM in Vegas.  :drunk:

GASP!!!  What??  There's a Fatburger in Cincinnati?  WHAT?  Where?

No kidding - last I heard was  Willie Anderson was thinking of opening one 3 or 4 years ago (I think).  I will have to check the local one out.

The cajun joint on Walnut in the US Bank building (across from Subway and the new Balboa's) opens tomorrow.  Should hopefully provide some variety in the lunchtime options.
