Late update:  Fatburger was great.  It was sure nice to have it again, and I didn't have to wait until the next time I was out west.

Free digital jukebox too.  Delicious ice cream shakes.  Two different kinds of fries.  Rally's and Arby's can eat it.

The cajun joint on Walnut in the US Bank building (across from Subway and the new Balboa's) opens tomorrow. Should hopefully provide some variety in the lunchtime options.

Do they have hours posted?

did not see them...just saw a note saying they would be open for lunch tomorrow.  Looked like they were doing a lot of test runs today.  But I can make a bold prediction:  Monday through Friday, 11-ish am to 3-ish.

I stand corrected. 11 to 6, M-F.  Free jambalaya samples being handed out on the street....

Eh, 6 is better than 3.

^yea, I had it last week and liked it.  Good breakfast choice.  I couldn't help but think how this would make great drunk food.  They should relocate closer to 7th or along Walnut and stay open 'til 3am.  I think it would do amazing business.  Plus there is a demand for this type of food.  Skyline needs to stay open later...I know Randy has discussed that fact many times.

i love chinney, i love rookwood and i love cincinnati, so we'll just go ahead and say i love the new restaurant, though i should probably try it at some point.

oh geez, here we go again 'so goes it'

i mean come on, get off the restaurants b*lls

you just want me to be on your b*lls

wow, i am having some serious deja vu...

tried the Voodoo Chicken at J Gumbo's today.  It was in the "Hot & Spicy" section of the men, and did not disappoint (although was clearly capable of being fired up further by the tabletop condiments).  A good contrasting lunch option to what was seemingly a city block-long line at Ingredients.

They stay open until 6 in case you want to grab a take out order for dinner.

^^What's with the b*lls shenanigans today?

From the press release:

Cincinnati, Ohio, October 14, 2008 - The Rookwood is excited to re-open doors to the building made

famous for housing one of the most prestigious ceramics companies in the world - The Rookwood

Pottery Company.

The Rookwood Bar & Restaurant brings together 4 young investors with a shared vision for reinventing

this once thriving hotspot on the side of Mt. Adams. Each one of the investors brought a

strong passion for the heritage of the area and unique business experiences to the venture. The team

includes Joseph Creighton (Boss Group), Caveh Azadeh (Coldstream Financial), Patrick McBride (The

Walnut Group) and Chinedum Ndukwe (Safety, Cincinnati Bengals).

“One of the most important elements of the venture is to bring this historic place back to the prestige

it once held. We all wanted to create an environment that celebrated the heritage of the building (and

what once took place here), but brought an aesthetic and vision for the new generation to share in,”

said Patrick McBride.

A core focus of the restaurant will be on the scratch kitchen, the mastermind of Jonathan Mouch.

Beyond all of the freshly prepared sandwiches, hand cut fries and signature sauces, Mouch wanted to

make sure to provide a fresh experience at a value price point, as to make it affordable for everyone

to share in. Mouch was previously the executive chef of The Boca Group’s NADA restaurant in

downtown Cincinnati.

The Rookwood restaurant will have its grand opening party on Wednesday, October 22nd to unveil its

dinner service and nightlife scene.

Bootsy's by Jeff Ruby appears to be coming along.  The extention of the deck going over the sidewalk is now under construction.  It looks like they are building the outer elevator shaft as well.  I heard a rumor on the street (literally) that they will open late December.  There is a sign saying that they are now hiring and opening soon.

Anyone have an updated photo of Bootsy's?

CincyImages: I took one today.  I'll post later.

I love that building and the ones near it.

^^Bootsy's is going to be so over the top.  I love it.

I do miss the old Pizzeria UNO.

Based on the colorful flair of Bootsy's exterior, it looks like it will attract many and do well in the district, but it doesn't look like my kind of place.

This morning I saw something is going [construction] at the only open spot left on fountain square, which I am going to name, for no apparent reason, Slot 15.  So the conversation can proceed like this, "Man, I wonder what they are going to put in Slot 15? Maybe an 'Eatertainment' Place?"

^Well, if someone can check permits and all that, perhaps we can gain some insight.

I want to know what is going on at Slot 15

Saw yesterday Chipolte opens in December.

Are you talking about the traveling center area? Next to Graeters?

no the one across the breezeway from rock bottom facing the square

I hope they end up calling it Slot 15 - The city's Premier Eatertainment Destination

HAHAHAH!

The Maisonette location has been on the market for a long time now. It is also in a PRIME location.

Has anyone heard any rumors of future plans with this place?

I always thought it was strange that Jean Robert hasn't bought it. With all of his other ventures, one would think he'd go back to his roots and try to resurrect the Maisonnete brand.

Or maybe he's avoiding it for that reason?  He may be trying to stay away from that name.

On a similar note, does anyone remember when all of the items, including the name, from the Maisonnete was auctioned?  I thought someone bought the name for thousands of dollars.  I wonder if something is going to come out of it.

I don't know, but that space and building are one of the prime locations in DT now.

Seriously, here's what the city needs to do:

If another restaurant/bar open up in that vicinity (not counting Bootsy's), I think the city should close off that intersection of Walnut and 6th (inc. Fountain Square) and allow only pedestrian traffic with open container laws. Card people before they enter the blocked off area. People could co-mingle in the streets and hop from place to place, say ... Thursday-Saturday.

What'd you think?

I think this is what the goal is for the Backstage District.  3CDC, who now is in control of that effort, has proposed exactly that for those 4 alley areas bounded by 6th, Vine, 7th, & Walnut.

I've never thought about it before, but I'm sort of surprised by that as well.

Why bother?  IMHO, the Maisonette name is tainted by the lackluster service and cuisine of its final few years.  I have no idea how it held onto its 5 stars.

Not to mention the Comisars' flailing attempts to effectuate a shakedown of city coffers in order to "induce" them to stay.  Recall that Nat Comisar claimed that there was no way to be a profitable restaurant any more in downtown...and he was moving to Montgomery etc....unless the city shelled out a bunch of $$ then and tax breaks.  If so, well, gosh, maybe they could make a go of it.  Turns out the city hasn't had a problem in luring restaurants since Maisonette left.  In fact, that may have been the nadir when maisonette closed, and certainly a changing of the guard (for the better, if you ask me).  Glad the city didn't blink in that game of chicken.

Looks to me like the long-awaited split between JR and the Wades may have finally come to fruition (??)...too bad, really.

Well I went to Lavo. last night and it was PACKED I thought.  And my boyfriend who works there said it was a typical night/kind of slow.  I took that as an excellent sign.  I have been a couple of times since it opened and IMO, the menu has only become better.  And plus, the waiter staff always seems so friendly and nice.  I LOVE THIS PLACE.  Its a little pricey to go to all the time for a college student like myself, but it really is a great place nonetheless.

^I love their Black Bean Burger that they serve at lunch.  Great meatless alternative with lots of flavor.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tazza Mia downtown (Vine St. near Fountain Square) has expanded their hours.  They are now open until 10 PM on Friday and Saturday nights.  :)

My husband and I were actually walking down to Starbucks to get coffee tonight, and we were pleasantly surprised to see that Tazza Mia was open.  They even had a sign posted with their extended hours.  We decided to go there instead of Starbucks.  They said they decided to try the extended hours because the ice skating rink on Fountain Square will be open soon along with the other holiday activities.

Today a noticed that there is a sign at Fresh stating they are permanently closed because of ongoing problems with the Bartlett Building.  It looks like there were people in there packing up.

I want to know what is going on at Slot 15

my guess is Slot 15 will be a sushi restaurant from the people that brought you beluga

That's really a shame.  I once went in there at about 10 til 3 to get a beverage.  Other than that, I never once was able to make it in for lunch because their hours are so horrible.  I don't work downtown, so I didn't get the chance like many other people might have.  It's unfortunate--I really wanted to taste what they had to offer.

Thanks a lot, Bartlett Building.

It inexplicably became Mexican Fresh or something shortly before closing.
