I'm starting to worry about overstauration with the restaurants...between Zula, Anchor, Quan Hapa, and whatever the Japanese place in the Color building is going to be called, that's 4 new ones slated to open in the next few months!

I'm not going to worry about over saturating OTR with restaurants until I can walk in the Senate or A Tavola at 6:30 on a Friday night without having to be put on a waiting list.

You summed up my thoughts perfectly.

Korean restaurateur bringing new flavor to Hyde Park

3501_Seoul*280.jpg?v=1

A local restaurateur wants to bring more flavor to Hyde Park with a little “Seoul” food.

Shelly Choi, who owns Korea House in Symmes Township with her husband Kwon, purchased the former Sunshine Fine Foods building on Erie Avenue and plans to turn the retail space into a Korean and sushi hotspot.

“There are seven or eight Thai restaurants nearby that are all a success,” Choi said. “But they don’t have any Korean food here. People here are open to new food; they want to try new things.”

Mike Fink restaurant to reopen by Reds Opening Day 2013?

The Mike Fink served its last meals on Valentine’s Day 2008. But the floating restaurant is on pace to reopen in time for the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day next spring, the River City News reported.

Jimmy Bernstein and Bob Conway visited Covington’s Historic Licking Riverside neighborhood association during its monthly meeting this week to share the news.

^That's kinda fun. Is there a reason the floating restaurants are all on the NKY side? And has anyone considered cleaning up the riverbank near the entrances to these fine dining establishments?

^ The shipping channel for freight traffic pretty much hugs the north bank of the river, so there isn't enough room for floating restaurants, etc. without encroaching into the barges.

I think it is for the view, not the clearance of commercial traffic. The Majestic showboat doesn't foul the channel.

I love Frisch's.

There used to be a Frisch's on 6th right next to Barleycorn's.

Does anyone know if there are plans for the upper floors of this building? According to reports, the new bar/club will take up the first three floors, which leaves the top three. Any plans to renovate those into apartments/condos? The same goes for the neighboring green building.

4EG bar at the old LaNormandie will be named Igby's

It was "announced" yesterday but actually had been public knowledge for months

Igby's!!??!?!  It's like Izzy's and Arby's had a love child.

Reminds me of Igby Goes Down

Urban Dictionary lists IGBYS as I'm Gonna Burn Your Shit.  That's not a saying I've ever heard though...

Urban Dictionary lists IGBYS as I'm Gonna Burn Your sh!t.  That's not a saying I've ever heard though...

Maybe it's one of those "attitude" restaurants where they give the customers a hard time on purpose. And burn everybody's stuff in this case. Either that or they took out some really good insurance.

The Anchor opened for the first time tonight with a friends and family event....I went with a buddy and was very impressed. I toured the place yesterday and really liked its interior design and layout. Not being much of a foodie and not typically a fan of seafood, I was kinda nervous even though I know Derek (the chef/co-owner with his wife) and totally trust him. Needless to say, it surpassed my high expectations. I had the clam chowder and fish and chips with a couple glasses of this great cabernet (I'm not into fancy wine but I need to find out what this stuff was, it was so good). The clam chowder was more than enough for my meal but it was nice to try a couple things especially since they tasted so dang good.

Overall, the Anchor is going to be very popular. It's refined yet relaxed, intimate yet open with a great location across from Washington Park and Music Hall. It has a nice range to the menu from oysters at the bar to soups to really interesting meal offerings to full lobsters, etc. I'm so excited for it and can't wait to go back....and sit on the patio.

Looks like you guys got you Jack in the Box! errr, well West Chester did, at least. I will understand if you don't patronize it for being way out of the way.

Jack in the Box comes to Ohio, but Columbus will have to wait

Business First by Dan Eaton, Staff reporter

Date: Wednesday, September 19, 2012

One of the biggest fast-food chains in the nation finally has popped up in Ohio. It just may be a while before it arrives in Columbus. Jack in the Box Inc. opened its first Buckeye State eatery in Cincinnati on Monday, with more to come. It’s also actively recruiting franchisees in Cleveland. The San Diego-based chain, with more than 2,200 restaurants in 20 states, is embarking on a Midwest expansion.

>"The Laughing Noodle"

The White Castle on Rt 42 was demo'd two weeks ago and is being rebuilt as a combo White Castle/Laughing Noodle.

Here in LA, Jack in the Box is a pox on every corner.  It's really not that good.  Now if In-n-Out wanted to expand into Ohio, that would be ok.

^Though I'm not crazy about fast food, I like that they have a diverse menu and serve breakfast 24/7.  Also, their commercials are great.  Looking forward to seeing those in Cincinnati.

Tin Roof opens at the Banks

Tin Roof is the latest bar and restaurant to open at The Banks in downtown Cincinnati.

The more than 5,000-square-foot “live music joint” opened last Tuesday after receiving its liquor license. Prior to that, it held a soft opening, serving up lunch and dinner. This offered the staff of about 40 a chance to train and prepare for a full opening.

What a WEIRD! WEIRD! WEIRD! juxtaposition. Sort of like if Long John Silver's unveiled a new sushi lineup. Their marketing people must be on crack.

I suppose all of the noodle based food will be trucked in and re-heated. I don't guess that the skill level at the average White Castle is high enough to make the experience anything like Noodles and Co.

Ruth Chris opens in October at the Banks.

It looks like the combo White Castle/Noodle is going to be the new norm.  I think it's a pretty brilliant, I think they're kind of going for a Chipotle-type thing as an answer to McDonald's.

not really that good? why so kind? jitb is awful! i wish it was in-n-out, but that ain't happening out east.

^It's like that any time something new but well-known opens in the 'burbs.  You should have seen the line of cars when Chick-fil-a opened in Florence.

They hurt for novelty.

I'll give Jack In the Box a chance when they open here, but it might take a while for me to make it there if they go putting one at Polaris, one in Grove City and one in Hillard as I suspect.

When I lived in Cincinnati, the only time I went to West Chester was one afternoon when I was bored on my motorcycle. I only remember warehouses. I don't know if the people that make these decisions know that there's a lot of people that just don't spend much time in these types of places or if they just don't care. Probably both.

Can someone answer a question about Jack in the Box? It's supposedly a lot more than burgers, right? I had the impression that they had some interesting Asian inspired things. I usually avoid fast food unless I'm familiar with the chain. I just wonder what the skinny on Jack in the Box was food wise.

Thank you buildingcincinnati:

Eden Park microbrewery lease deal gets city council OK

BreweryX_Building_Cincinnati.jpg?v=1

A microbrewery is closer to coming to Eden Park’s historic pump station, following a lease agreement approved last Wednesday by Cincinnati City Council.

Called Brewery X, the $5 million project by father and son Jack and Bryon Martin will transfer the 1894 building at 1430 Martin Drive into a production facility, tasting room and beer garden. The project is expected to create 13 full-time jobs, and some of the beer produced will be sold to local restaurants.

New wine and craft beer shop coming to downtown Cincinnati

A new craft beer and wine shop is coming to downtown Cincinnati.

Everything’s d’Vine is scheduled to open at 318-320 W. Fourth St. by the end of October. Owner Marianne Kiely said she’s been working for more than two years to get proper state licensing to open the 1,900-square-foot store. Licenses to sell wine in Ohio are awarded on a quota system, meaning there can only been so many per thousand people. Kiely has her beer and tasting licenses, and should have her wine license next week.

IHop had that same weird impact when it opened in Oakley like going to Bob Evans or Frisch's was somehow inferior.

I usually avoid fast food unless I'm familiar with the chain. I just wonder what the skinny on Jack in the Box was food wise.

I haven't been to a Jack in the Box since my first and only visit to one in Arizona back in the late 90's. As far as hamburgers go, McDonald's would've been an improvement. Now I find myself on co-op in Los Angeles, where it seems like there's a Jack in the Box on every street corner. I still haven't been able to bring myself to go to one, but I'm told they actually have decent tacos, and one thing that makes them unique is that you can order from their breakfast menu at any time.

I wouldn't cross the street to eat at Jack in the Box, but if In-N-Out Burger ever came to Cincinnati I'd be the first one in line.

Random thought: Butler County might be the only place in the universe where you'll find a Jack in the Box and a Tim Horton's within such a close distance of each other.

Oooh, that's like the nuclear holocaust of Nashville having both Krystal and White Castle.

The White Castle/Goofy Noodle on 42 appears poised to open.  Meanwhile, the front of the Maisonette is exposed to the elements.  They appear to be cutting a hole in the upper floor's floor.

Such a thrill to see White Castle upping its profile, seen here with Tommy Hilfigger & retinue:

whitecastle.jpg

I don't get why some people think White Castle is a Cincinnati thing. Even after the Harold & Kumar movie. They think it's like Skyline or something.

Ive never heard anyone say they thought it was a Cincinnati thing. Did someone suggest that here?

Cincinnati was an early point of expansion for White Castle. 1927 according to its website.
