Holy Grail owners opening second concept in former Mahogany’s space at the Banks

The owners of Holy Grail are opening a second concept at the Banks.

Santo Graal, which is Italian for "holy grail," will be a new restaurant serving traditional Italian fare. The restaurant will open in the 3,250-square-foot space in phase I of the Banks that was the home of Mahogany's, which closed in mid-September 2014.

That type of restaurant should do really well there.

Went to Goodfellas and the Wiseguy Lounge upstairs on the 31st. The upstairs is incredible. You should all check it out.

I live close, so thanks for the heads up.

That's what I thought about Mahogany's when it was announced.

To be fair I don't think Mahogany's problem was its concept. A great idea can be run into the ground by poor management.

Something quick and simple for people out drinking will do well, especially when there are any events down there.

Went to Goodfellas and the Wiseguy Lounge upstairs on the 31st. The upstairs is incredible. You should all check it out.

Seriously. It may be one of my top favorite bars in OTR. It's awesome.

It really is a cool space. Very comfortable too. You feel like you're welcome to lounge and stay there for awhile. A lot of places don't have that quality and feel like you're just in the way.

And the quality of the pizza is good and I've been told the alcohol selection is decent. I don't drink so I wasn't paying much attention to that but their shelving looked nice.

They have over 100 bourbons and personal charging stations with both duplex and USB ports at all the barstools. Goodfellas is the best

Is an Italian restaurant at The Banks from the owners of the Holy Grail really a "concept"?

I think someone went over this somewhere at some point, but in the restaurant/bar world the word "concept" is synonymous with "brand" which basically applies to the first of anything. Which this restaurant would be.

I get it. Just seems strange for a restaurant that will likely be on par with Pompilios to be called a "concept".

The concept is $$$.

This move will seriously reduce the amount of money I spend on soup... In 20° weather, I'm not walking an extra 10 blocks (round trip). And I'm suspect their delivery service can keep soup hot enough during transport.

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s when Tom + Chee is closing a downtown location

Cincinnati grilled cheese and tomato soup empire Tom + Chee will be closing one of its two downtown stores by the end of this week.

The chain is closing its location at 420 Walnut St. downtown by Feb. 27, co-founder Trew Quackenbush told me. The move comes after Tom + Chee opened its new flagship restaurant at 125 E. Court St. in November of last year.

The Walnut Street location had limited seating and served mostly carry-out customers. Those customers will be served by Tom + Chee's expanding delivery service, Quackenbush said.

Five Guys closed in West Chester, what happened?

In terms of fast-casual restaurants, Five Guys Burgers and Fries is about the closest thing to a sure-fire money maker. So why did the Five Guys in West Chester close?

------------

Carroll sold the property to Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, a Baton Rogue, La.-based chicken finger restaurant.

Correct, the restaurant just sells chicken fingers. The chicken fingers come with crinkle-cut fries, Texas Toast, coleslaw and Cane’s sauce. And you can get your chicken fingers on a sandwich, but that’s it.

RCO Limited, the Ohio franchisee, will open its first restaurant in West Chester Township at 7806 Tylersville Road on April 30. The new store hired about 50 employees.

In addition, the franchisee for Raising Cane’s will open a second restaurant in Springdale at 705 Kemper Commons Circle this July.

Very excited about this restaurant! One question: I don't think 1342 Walnut has enough outdoor space for "60-70" outdoor seats... so I think the address in the article must be wrong. Anybody know what the real address is? They're going to need a sizable patio for that many seats.

EXCLUSIVE: Upscale burger restaurant eyes former Cadillac Ranch space in downtown Cincinnati

Apr 30, 2015, 1:06pm EDT

Tom Demeropolis Senior Staff Reporter - Cincinnati Business Courier

Bru Burger Bar, the upscale burger concept from Cunningham Restaurant Group, has set its sights on the southwest corner of Sixth and Walnut streets in downtown Cincinnati.

Mike Cunningham, president and CEO of CRG, said he has signed a letter of intent to lease about half of the space at 41 E. Sixth St., the site that most recently housed El Coyote and before that Cadillac Ranch.

http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2015/04/30/exclusive-upscale-burger-restaurant-eyes-former.html

Wouldn't it be awesome if Terry's Turf Club opened a DT location?

Not at all surprising to see they'll only be taking about half the Cadillac Ranch space. That makes so much more sense. This will be a good addition to that stretch and hopefully bring some life back to that half of the block.

A DT/OTR location of Terry's Turf Club would be amazing if it didn't try to compete with the original. Part of the fun of Terry's is going to their location that is separated from basically everything and is over the top and outrageous. A location in the core would likely never have that "out of the way destination" quality Terry's currently has. It's very much an event to go there.

I thought that it would take a couple of tenants to fill that space back up. It is a larger size retail/restaurant building.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Terry's Turf Club opened a DT location?

They could do a Terry's To-Go type of joint.  Limited menu, smallish space.  Or just put it in OTR or Pendleton.  Or in Springboro! :D

Liberty Center adds 2 new restaurants

The Liberty Center development in Butler County is adding two new restaurant tenants to the massive retail-office-residential project.

I can't believe this is where Northstar is looking to break into the Southwest Ohio market.  I think that restaurant could do gangbusters further south.

Agreed.  It'd be a perfect fit for, say, Northside or OTR.

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

I absolutely love Northstar, but it's puzzling why they're choosing to locate way out in Liberty Township.  I could definitely see them opening in OTR, but if they wanted to test the waters at a suburban location, I would think Kenwood or Rookwood would make way more sense.  I'm guessing it's the Steiner relationship which is luring them to this development, as I believe their largest location is at Easton.

Well you know that Steiner has designed liberty center with millenials in mind. Lol.

When asked about the possibility of a Raising Cane’s downtown, McCarthy was open to it.

Signs are up at US Bank Tower's Walnut St. entrance for a freshii franchise. No opening date yet.

Opening late January...

Freshii restaurant will bring fast, fresh, customized meals to downtown diners

Blue Ash native Robbie Sosna is bringing Freshii, a Toronto-based chain focused on fast, fresh, customized meals, to Greater Cincinnati.

The first local Freshii is under construction on the ground floor of the U.S. Bank Tower, 425 Walnut St., opposite J. Gumbo’s in the space that was Fruities. Sosna said he expects to open the 1183-square-foot restaurant, which will seat up to 30 people, in late January. He plans to be open for breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays, but he may experiment with weekend or dinner hours, depending on the response.

The idea to open a “fast, fresh” concept restaurant was sparked when Sosna moved to New York City to work for the David Letterman Show after college.

Cont

They opened today. With the seating arrangement, I don't think I'd ever dine-in. Too small with the food and drink lines constantly moving around you. With that said, the food was delicious!

Freshii restaurant opens downtown

Freshii, a fast-casual chain serving customizable soups, salads, wraps and rice bowls, opened its downtown outpost Tuesday.

It’s in the U.S. Bank Tower at 425 Walnut St., in the 1,183-square-foot space that was previously Fruities.

Breakfast and lunch are served from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays. Diners can choose from 50 different ingredients with which to customize their meals, which average about $8.

The restaurant seats about 30, offers WiFi and uses environmentally friendly packaging and utensils.

Cont

Sadly, Freshii has closed... Great location downtown but terrible physical space. I had noticed their business dropping off. Food was still good though.

EXCLUSIVE: Via Vite chef opening restaurant in new 84.51 HQ

Jun 26, 2015, 12:44pm EDT

Andy Brownfield

Cincinnati Business Courier

The executive chef and owner of upscale downtown Italian eatery Via Vite is opening a new burger restaurant in the 84.51 building.

Executive Chef Cristian Pietoso told the audience at the Business Courier's Business Owner Insight breakfast on June 25 that he would be opening the burger concept within the next six months. Pietoso said the food would be given the same attention and quality that he gives to his Italian cuisine at Via Vite.

Over the weekend I was asked for directions to Acropolis Chili.  I pointed at the big fat ugly U Square parking garage and said "right there!".

Oh no, not Giordano's!!!  Why can't it be Lou Malnati's!?!?!  Giordano's is like the Gold Star Chili of Chicago.

A new Argentinian restaurant "Che" is coming to 1342 Walnut, aiming for a mid-August open: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2015/07/01/hyde-park-restaurateur-opening-new-concept-in-otr.html

Che will seat about 95 on two floors indoors with an additional courtyard area that can accommodate up to 70 more. It will have grills both indoors and outdoors as well as a walk-up window for late night empanadas until 3 or 4 a.m. after the bars close.

I like places with takeout windows. It makes it easy for me to grab something when being antisocial and not in the mood to make something myself. And these sound like they'll be quick and easy which is always a plus.

I like places with takeout windows. It makes it easy for me to grab something when being antisocial and not in the mood to make something myself. And these sound like they'll be quick and easy which is always a plus.

^Agreed. Takeout windows are also good for activating the street, since it means more people out on the sidewalk. I can imagine it being quite popular to get some empanadas to go and take them over to the 16 Bit Bar across the street, which lets you bring your own food.

They plan on being open until 3 or 4am, after the bars close. Is there anything else open that late in OTR? Joe's Diner is open til 4am I think... what else is open that late?

Gomez Salsa is open until after the bars close. Isn't Lucy Blue's as well?
