February 2, 200718 yr Sushi in OTR? Oh how that would be sweet. I crave sushi quite often when I am downtown and the walk up to Teak Thai is a workout and the sushi at the Japanese place on 8th didn't impress me.
February 2, 200718 yr Hideaway a nice find in Northside POLLY CAMPBELL | [email protected] The Hideaway in Northside is one of the better examples I've seen of the ugly lamp school of décor. February 2, 200718 yr ^ That is not walking distance from downtown. I have walked that many times, but you can always just hop on a 17, 18, or 19 bus
February 3, 200718 yr I think that there may be a sushi restraunt opening up in over the rhine on main street. Details when i get them. Well crap! I was trying to be mysterious on the Main Street thread and I guess it is already out. Jump is the site. One of the owners of Vinyl is opening it. The paper is up on the windows, the deal is done.

February 4, 200718 yr Do you know the name or any other sort of "teaser?" Let's keep pornographic dialect in the UrbanBar .... mmkay?

February 9, 200718 yr Author McFadden's owner expanding menu with new lounge Live entertainment, parties, theme nights at Lodge Bar Cincinnati Business Courier - February 9, 2007by Lisa Biank FasigStaff Reporter The owner of McFadden's Restaurant downtown has leased a trio of storefronts nearby with plans to open a large lounge that will feature live entertainment, theme nights and parties. This venue, tentatively to be called The Lodge Bar, is expected to open within a few months and will largely target younger workers and downtown residents. It will occupy the former House of Sun II restaurant, Joe's Photo and the Precision hair salon at 35 E. Seventh St. http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2007/02/12/story9.html
February 9, 200718 yr Wait, is this the same Lodge Bar in Columbus?!?! If so, neat! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
February 10, 200718 yr I guess McFadden's, Sully's, and The Lodge will have the same owner in Cincy. I have not heard of The Lodge but it should create some synergy being just across the street from McFadden's. Cincy Kid - how did you locate this blurb? I did not see this under the latest news, and it looks like the story is dated 2/12 (although I used your link to read it)? I suddenly feel like I am missing something and there is a way to get the headlines sooner....

I suddenly feel like I am missing something and there is a way to get the headlines sooner.... No, for some reason they posted their online stories today (Friday) at least in blurb form as usual. Normally, only the print edition comes out Friday and the online stuff does not come out until Monday. Don't know if it was a one time thing or if it is going to be that way from now on.
February 11, 200718 yr Can we have better dance clubs?! I got my $220 Columbia coat stolen at Martinos this thursday..the place gets more and more ghetto each time I go and the only good place on Maine anymore is The Exchange. Tonight a bouncer threw a girl outside and slammed her against the concrete wall so hard her arm was bleeding. That s$%t was uncalled for. I just wanna go somewhere NORMAL in the city to dance... Does McFadden's have a dance floor?? We have enough good places to sit down and drink beer and/or eat, I just feel there's a void to be filled for quality dance clubs.
February 11, 200718 yr I just wanna go somewhere NORMAL in the city to dance... I just feel there's a void to be filled for quality dance clubs. Here are a few places you might want to check out: Allyn's Cafe - Columbia Tusculum Millions - Mt. Lookout Mt. Lookout Tavern - Mt. Lookout Motion - Queesgate (Longworth Hall) - Is it still open? Havana Martini Bar - Downtown I am not big into clubs anymore but isn't Adonis one of the more popular clubs in Cincinnati? I believe there is a large gay populous that frequents the club but if you aren't insecure, it should fill your needs. http://www.adonisthenightclub.com
February 11, 200718 yr Yeah, there'll be swinging, swaying, and records playing... Should be updated to say.... Yeah, there'll be swinging, swaying, and iPods playing... ;)
February 11, 200718 yr I just wanna go somewhere NORMAL in the city to dance... I think Longworth's in Mt. Adams has a dance floor on the second floor. I think McFadden's does have a dance floor after 10 on Fridays and Saturdays.
February 11, 200718 yr what about The bar formerly known as Jacobs in Northside. I think it is a gay bar or at least gay friendly, but that demographic certainly knows how to dance.
February 11, 200718 yr I know whats around here, I just wish there were better places that are primarily dance-oriented. By the way, www.cincyalist.com has users rank the best places to go. It changes frequently because it's in real-time. Rank Venue Avg Rating 1 Beluga's 9.7 2 Metropolis 8.9 3 Alive One 8.5 4 Zazoo 8.5 5 Cosmos 8.4 6 Crowley's Pub 8.4 7 Strauss House 8.0 8 Blue Note 7.8 9 Jefferson Hall 7.8 10 McFADDEN'S 7.8 11 The Stand 7.8 12 Mulligans 7.8 13 The Exchange 7.6 14 R.P. February 11, 200718 yr ...and so the places listed Monte and edale and thomas and xume since your post don't qualify as "NORMAL", or don't qualify as "in the city," or don't qualify as placed "to dance"? Just not sure I understand the issue here...
February 11, 200718 yr This may be old news, but there's a sign in the window of the Paula's Cafe at Findley Market saying that the location is permanently closed.
February 11, 200718 yr I saw that too. I really think a wine store would work really well in Findlay.
February 11, 200718 yr I saw that too. I really think a wine store would work really well in Findlay. You're right. I've never thought of that, but when you say it, it seems completely obvious. However, it needs to be a real wine shop, with a broad selection. Good every day table wines along with the high end stuff. I can't stand those specialty shops that looks like someone opened it up as a hobby. Maybe less than 50 labels total. All way overpriced. I've never seen one of those make it.
February 11, 200718 yr The problem is you have to make all of your money on Saturday morning and I don't know how many people have wine on their minds at 7am. Then again, a lot of people go to findlay market to get special ingredients for special occasion dishes where wine is very often served. Being able to suggest parings as they are buying the ingredients may work well. Theft might be an issue, I was thinking you could rent a stall and display the wine like cuts of meat are displayed. This would have the added bonus of being able to sell your white wine pre-chilled.
February 11, 200718 yr This may be old news, but there's a sign in the window of the Paula's Cafe at Findley Market saying that the location is permanently closed. That's a bummer. :( Did this just happen in the past week? I went to Findley last weekend, and I thought for sure they were still open.
February 12, 200718 yr ^ She closed suddenly this week, and was way behind on rent etc. She seemed to do pretty good business both Saturdays and Sundays, so I hope another breakfast type place goes there.
February 12, 200718 yr I know whats around here, I just wish there were better places that are primarily dance-oriented. Again there is...http://www.adonisthenightclub.com. Report back and let us know how "straight friendly it is ;)
February 12, 200718 yr I'm sure Adonis is straight-friendly...but all I've ever heard is that it's gay-gay-gay...like, hot tub-gay, showers-for-dancers-gay...but maybe I'm misinformed - I haven't actually been there yet...
February 12, 200718 yr ^LOL... ahh too funny. Didn't know it was "hot tub-gay" ;) Here are some of the reviews from their website that I thought I would share: I love this club, the atmosphere and people are very friendly and fun!!! -Sarah I love the club I cant get enought of the fun people there at Adonis And the cute bartenders ....Like Brandon and Darrell keep up the fun...-Cassie I am so glad this bar has opened cause I hate the dayton bars and this club has so much class thanx for a GREAT club. Thanks for the add and all your support in the community! Adonis was sooooooo hot last night.......met a nice PYT to take home...well worth the drive from Dayton.......i"ll be back soon.........love ya!!!!!!" --Jae Adonis is such a fun club and definitely the best in Cincy. Keep up the good work. :-) --SaLt-* Adonis is incredible! Truly one of the most beautiful bars in Ohio! I really enjoyed the atmosphere that your team has created. Penny Tration rocked and kept me laughing! The crowd was definitely entertained. Keep doing what guys are doing.... It is working! I hope to come back again soon! --A New Fan, Nick I feel at home there and even my Washington DC friends were blown away by the club. THANK YOU Adonis...You are our new home! --Steve I enjoy the way your club includes everyone from all walks of life. Whether they be gay/str8/bi transgendered. Big/little hefty whatever it may be. I know many bears if you will who enjoy dancing however sometimes don't feel comfortable as you know big men don't dance. LOL could fool me when I'm out on the floor. Our community although changing is still somewhat segragated which I don't understand. Many bears see themselves different than "twinks" and vice versa. I would love to be a part of a club that is willing to do what it takes to bring everyone together. Our community surely needs it. Thanks for bringing your idea to life here in Cincinnati. Finally we have a place to go that is nice, clean and open where all people regardless of their orientation can feel welcome. Respectfully - Nate H.

THey should have a wine store/wine bar somewhere down in the CBD near the hotels and maybe ft sq, Aronoff areas. I know they used to have one in Dayton (called Bin 130 or something similar) near the Shuster. It eventually went under, however, I think it would work if there were more people, hotels etc in the area
February 12, 200718 yr You can buy wine at Strauss Tobacco shop on Walnut between 4th and 5th. It's in a side area that has an entrance fro the lobby of the Mercantile building. Although not huge, they do have a pretty decent range of offerings. It should do the trick for people living in the area that don't want to get in their car to pick up a bottle of wine.
February 12, 200718 yr We do have a very nice new wine store, City Cellars at Race and 9th. City Cellars is good. They also have a nice selection of beer. They are very good about helping you select a bottle of wine, too. You just tell them what you like and your price range, and they will give recommendations. They also have wine tastings on Tuesdays.
February 12, 200718 yr I'm gay but not "hot tub gay" and the few times I've been to Adonis I feel old - the crowd skews young - and I am surprised by all the straight people. The same can be said for Masque in Dayton.
February 15, 200718 yr Sounds like there will be a lot of mental horsepower at Sully's tonight: CiN Live at Sully's Join us at Sully's (700 Race Street, downtown) for their grand opening celebration Thursday, February 15 from 8 p.m. to close. The event - hosted by Kendra from The Girls Next Door - includes a diamond giveaway (the first 100 ladies in the door get a chance to win a REAL diamond) and a champagne toast at midnight. Get free admission when you mention CiN Weekly at the VIP entrance.
February 16, 200718 yr Drove by Sully's tonight. The place was packed and there was even a line out the door. A group of us are going Saturday night, if anyone else is going PM me. Along with this, McFaddens was slammed and I'm sure The Lodge will be also. 7th street was pretty lively with McFaddens, Sully's, and Jeff Ruby's. Wow ... After I left, the line was wrapped all the way around the side of the building. Folks ... that's how you get the word out. Advertising, it does wonders.
February 20, 200718 yr The wife and I ate at McCormick and Shmicks Friday and our server said they are putting about a dozen tables outside for outdoor dining. Just thought I'd tell you guys. ;) ... because I am big on outside dining.
February 20, 200718 yr Is that what the construction out front is about ? seating ? Yes, and sprucing up that sidewalk/block.
February 20, 200718 yr I heard Cincinnati Magazine's Top 25 came out...anyone subscribe and have the list?

February 20, 200718 yr ^ The magazine was selling for $12 for 12 issues at the Cincinnati Auto Show this weekend. I agree that while it has some fluff, it is worth having a subscription.
