Science has proven that spending time with a pet can reduce a person's stress, so Cincinnati's first-ever cat cafe is pairing that with your morning coffee.

The Kitty Brew Cat Cafe at 6011 Tylersville Road in Mason opened on April 9. The cafe is actually two separate and distinct spaces. The front of the Kitty Brew Cat Cafe will be a traditional cafe setting that serves coffee, espresso drinks, tea and sweets. A separate room in the back will house up to 16 cats along with seating and furniture for both felines and humans. Click through the photos below for a look inside.

Popular East Side restaurant closes

toots*480xx2376-1344-0-0.png

A popular Deerfield Township restaurant is closing its doors.

Toot’s at 12191 Montgomery Road closed on April 23 due to its owner’s health problems, the restaurant announced on its website.

Deerfield Township is east side now? Ok.

On the official Toot's website, it refers to that locations as "Toot’s of Loveland, OH" in one place and "Toot's Cincinnati" elsewhere. It's actually located in Deerfield Township--to be fair, not too far from the Loveland border.

A new place called Ninja Grill or something like that has taken the place of Quizno's on McMillan St.  But the Quizno's sign is still up!

Their mailing address is Loveland. Much like how most of Colerain Township's mailing address says Cincinnati instead of Colerain Township. Most of Deerfield Township usually says Mason. Not sure why townships are typically not on mailing addresses.

A new place called Ninja Grill or something like that has taken the place of Quizno's on McMillan St.  But the Quizno's sign is still up!

Ninjas are known for their stealth

A lot of the Fields Ertel area of Deerfield Township has a Cincinnati mailing address (anything in the 45249 zip code, I think). So there are places in Warren County with Cincinnati addresses. Toots is in the 45140 zipcode, which covers Loveland and part of the few townships around it.

I think the Eastgate area also has a Cincinnati mailing address, which is especially confusing because it's located in Clermont County.

My mother had a business for many years called the Goshen Flower Shop but it had a Loveland mailing address. It was right down the street from the original Holtman's Donuts location, which they call their "Loveland" location, despite being located in Goshen Township. (Other parts of Goshen did have a Goshen mailing address.)

A lot of people get confused and don't know what municipality they live in, because they think that their mailing address indicates where they live--but that is often not true for people who live in townships. So people who live in a township but have Cincinnati mailing address and pay Cincinnati income tax because they work in the city mistakenly believe that they live in the city. And then they get angry or confused when they show up to vote and don't get to vote for Mayor and City Council.

Cranley puts lots of energy into them anyway.

That kind of attitude can really backfire. You put something "too weird" out in these areas where everything "normal" like an Enterprise auto rental or a CVS is a surefire hit and you can lose your a$$. But I don't know if this is "too weird" or not!

^Well, there are some "weird" people out in the suburbs.  I was surprised about two years ago when I went to a food truck rally advertised on Twitter in the austere Union Center area of West Chester (the lawn where Mitt Romney had his rally with Kid Rock).  There were quite a number of farmers market and "festival" and yupster type people there.  They're out there in the suburbs, but not in such numbers that they dominate the landscape.

In the eastern 'burbs those people are Republicans.

Jean-Robert making changes to L Restaurant

Nine months after Cincinnati's splashiest restaurant opening in years, L Restaurant owner Jean-Robert de Cavel is making a few changes at his fine-dining spot in downtown's Queen City Square tower.

First, L Restaurant is now closed for lunch, except on Fridays. (It's actually closed May 5, but will begin Friday lunch hours on May 12.) De Cavel said the midday traffic he and partner Richard Brown expected never materialized. He called the move "a bit of a disappointment."

Da fuh is a "creamy whip?"  Is it basically another name for ice cream or is it different?

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

Sooo...it's soft serve ice cream.  Weird name for that.

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

I did a bit of googling... and I think that "creamy whip" might be somewhat of a regional/local term. I don't find many mentions of it outside of the Cincinnati area.

Decades later, the creamy whip of my youth is still standing (last time I checked), still operating, still no-starred by the Michelin Guide, on the northern intersection of Cheviot Road and Blue Rock in White Oak. It’s also an abiding exemplar of its kind: a stand-alone building with limited parking; at the white-to-beige end of the color spectrum; lots of glass out front, crowded with everything from menu boards to sun-faded third-party posters with photographs featuring idealized representations of the size, symmetry, and/or frothiness of various offerings; low windows outfitted with sliding screens through which transactions are conducted by teenagers on summer vacation who scribble orders in pencil on small pads of paper. And bees. Don’t be surprised if there are bees.

I obviously grew up close to this writer, since I know this place well.  I just drove past it Monday morning, in fact.

It is home to The Clyde, a cone with a face on it just like the one we see pictured above.  They're obviously ripping off The Clyde.

In Cincinnati, there is also the "dairy bar" term, as in the Gold Top Dairy Bar:

http://goldtopdairybar.com/

I think it's mostly a southwestern Ohio thing but it extends beyond the Greater Cincinnati area as well. When I was a kid I went to creamy whips as far east as Blanchester, Ohio.

Up in Cleveland (and pretty much everywhere else in the Midwest I've seen them other than Cincinnati) they're usually just referred to by whatever their name is, which is usually "Dairy _____". I don't even think we called them "soft serve stands" or anything, there just wasn't a generic term for a shack you buy soft serve out of up in NEO. Creamy Whip must be to Cincinnati what treelawn is to Cleveland.

“To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

ColDayMan[/member], I am shocked that you haven't heard the term "creamy whip" before.

Yeah, we don't have that word in Dayton.  We just call it by whatever ice cream place it's from.

And there's a creamy whip in Silverton called Hold the Nuts!

Lol, my mother in law calls it Hold Your Nuts!

ColDayMan[/member], I am shocked that you haven't heard the term "creamy whip" before.

Yeah, we don't have that word in Dayton.  We just call it by whatever ice cream place it's from.

The best creamy whip in Hamilton is Flubs.  And they now have more than one location.

I always thought it would be a genius move for one of these creamy whip places to offer high end coffee and be open all year, especially if they have a drive thru

Creamy Whip must be to Cincinnati what treelawn is to Cleveland.

Wait, I lived in Cincy for almost 10 years and used treelawn many times...were people completely unaware of what I was talking about and just too polite to say anything?
