I've been a lurker here for awhile.  You guys do a good job.

What I'm interested in finding out, though, is who wants to find me a job in Cleveland.  I am a native Clevelander, but have been living and working in wretchedly overcrowded, horribly expensive Chicago for two years.  Escape is a must.  I have searched wide and far for a job that will give me an excuse to move back to the Greatest Location in the Nation, to no avail.  Perhaps this means there are no gigs in Cleveland or maybe I am an unemployable piece of shit.    That question is up for debate.

So who wants to find me a job?    Any openings you guys know of?    Where's a good place to find job openings in Cleveland?

I guess it depends on what you do...

Work at a The Onion, a newspaper, on the operations side.

No, seriously - what do you do?

A quick scan at careerboard.com (locally owned and a little better than cleveland.com's listings, imho) revealed these:

Just an FYI, Arrow International specializes in gaming collateral (aka bingo cards).

maybe you could work on starting up the local Onion outlet... we sure do miss it here!

I would love to have The Onion here .  I think Cleveland deserves the Onion! you should look into it..

Maybe Team NEO needs to put together an incentive package.

Seriously, why does the Onion have offices in Chi, Denver, Milwaukee, Madison, SF, Twin Cities and here in NYC?  Is there local content I've been missing by relying on the web page for so long?  Or did everyone of a certain seniority get to start their own office when they got tired of Madison and moved?

I suggested a Cleveland office once as a subterfuge for me to move back without crawling through the local job market and was the subject of harsh rebuke and scathing ridicule.

As for why we have multiple offices, we do have local content exclusive to each city.  Entertainment, music, and the like.

Really? I can't think of a better city to house dry, witty fake news. Perhaps we should all come up with Onion headlines that you can share in staff meeting as evidence of Cleveland's joie de satire.

Verizon has 70 jobs to fill in Northeast Ohio

4:28 p.m.

Wireless phone service provider Verizon Wireless is looking for job applicants to fill 70 positions in the Cleveland, Akron and Canton areas, and a total of 200 positions in Ohio.

Local job openings include retail sales manager, sales assistant managers, sales representatives, customer support representatives, sales operations associates and operations analyst. Spots for indirect channel account managers, business sales account executive, data sales engineer, network senior engineer and network technician also exist.

Go to the company's Web site to submit a resume.

Verizon Wireless in Basking Ridge, N.J., is a joint venture of Verizon Communications Inc. in New York City and cellular phone maker Vodafone Plc in Newbury Berkshire, United Kingdom. Verizon Communications provides wireline and wireless phone services, as well as Internet services and printed directory information.

Consider moving to Cleveland without your "ideal job" in hand and get a temporary, crap job like in a drug store, office supply store, restaurant etc. Then, troll the job scene from its backyard. I find it's easier to get a job in a city once you've moved to that city.

mm..why not just stay in Chicago and find a job that pays better than the one you're at now.  Chicago has way more job options.

^Chicago also has a TON more people seeking all of those job opportunities.  Trust me, on average I think you have an easier time getting a good job in Cleveland than you do in Chicago, unless you know an alderman.

See Full of Cleveland's initial message. The boy wants to "Come Home to Cleveland." And Punch may be right. A friend of mine lives in Chicago and is having a tough time finding a job he's trained for, though I suspect he's wanting to jump too high up on the corporate ladder at the outset.

The "Come home to Cleveland" is right on.

It really has nothing to do with the job market.  Chicago is so damn expensive and overcrowded.  For example, it takes me around an hour to commute each way to work and it's only 3-4 miles.  I live in a densely packed ghetto all for the low price of $700/month for my 1 room rat's nest and was set upon by violent Puerto Ricans while walking down the street not long ago.

Plus, I never get to watch any Browns games here.

Well, officially, I am the Office/Distribution manager.  But more accurately I play Chinese Checkers on my computer and spend some time on the message boards.

Well, I doubt you're going to get any offers from anyone reading this board, then.

yeah we fill all those jobs already. sorry

^ probably so true..

^haha yep

Interested in going to grad school then?

Sounds like he's ready for upper management now.

  • 3 weeks later...

Why don't you try looking in Wooster?  I managed to find a job here... and now I'm close to exciting cities like Mansfield, Massillon and Canton!

That doesn't sound like a job someone would willingly give up!

Has anyone checked if The Onion has done a write up on job opertunities in Cleveland/Ohio since this thread started?
