Adult businesses targeted

Group that fought gay marriage seeking law that limits strip clubs, bookstores

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Alan Johnson and James Nash

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Those who orchestrated Ohio’s constitutional ban on gay marriage in 2004 have set their sights on adult bookstores, strip clubs and other sexually oriented businesses.

Citizens for Community Values, a Cincinnati group with conservative religious roots, submitted proposed language to Attorney General Jim Petro for what the group is calling the Community Defense Act.

"If we can change the constitution to protect marriage, why can’t we pass a law?" said Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values.

HAHAHAHAAAAA....

This six foot rule.

Who is going to enforce this?  Is someone going to go around with a tape measure or something?

A lot of this just seems like nuisance regulation.  Why not just ban this stuff outright, like they did gay marriage?

Scrolling through the list of subjects on this forum, it is amazing that these perverts can expend so much effort into this abberation of the American constitution.

CCV steps up anti-porn campaign

By Mary Lolli

Staff Writer

HAMILTON — A Cincinnati-based anti-pornography group has launched the second in a multi-phased campaign aimed at ridding Butler County of pornographic materials and sexually oriented businesses.

Letters were mailed to 6,000 Butler County households during the past week urging residents to join the Citizens for Community Values in its renewed local campaign.

‘Right now we’re focusing on community education efforts,” CCV President Phil Burress said. “We’re not focusing on law enforcement issues just yet.”

Hotel porn battle expands

By David Crary

Associated Press

Pornographic movies now seem nearly as pervasive in America's hotel rooms as tiny shampoo bottles, and the lodging industry shows little concern as conservative activists rev up a protest campaign aimed at triggering a federal crackdown.

A coalition of 13 conservative groups - including the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America - took out full-page ads in some editions of USA Today earlier this month urging the Justice Department and FBI to investigate whether some of the pay-per-view movies widely available in hotels violate federal and state obscenity laws.

The coalition also is trying to draw attention to CleanHotels.com, a directory of hotels and motels nationwide that pledge to exclude adult offerings from their in-room entertainment service.

Anti-strip club initiative moves closer to ballot

Saturday, September 02, 2006

Local group targets strip clubs

BY JON CRAIG | [email protected]

COLUMBUS – Ohioans will vote this fall on school boards, town councils, local levies – and, if one group has its way, strip clubs.

The Sharonville group that led the effort to ban same-sex marriage in Ohio has now set its sights on strip clubs and adult book stores. Citizens for Community Values petitioned state legislators to place the Community Defense Act on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The act would:

• Ban nude dancing after midnight or before 6 a.m.

• Bans customers from getting within six-feet of an exotic dancer, who must be on a stage at least two feet above the floor.

• Allow customers, strip club owners, dancers or other employees who violate the new rules to be charged with a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by a $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail.

Supporters of the bill say it’s needed because strip clubs and other adult businesses increase prostitution and other crimes, lower neighborhood property value and harm families.

This is absolutely crazy!!!  I don't know how this should even get close to the ballot box.  The legislation they are pushing has nothing to do with what kinds of things happen outside of the club, nor do they deal with the health/safety/welfare of those within the club.

It is the group sticking their nose in business that it shouldn't be.  I believe that this group is doing a great job at ruining their own credibility.  The CCV sucks, and needs to go away...but I don't think we'll have to worry about that because like I said they're doing it on their own.

Seems like this law would make tipping damn near impossible.

This, of course, would lead the dancers to having to supplement their income in other ways.

Like, prostitution or something....

CCV are mean spirited idiots

The problem with something like this getting on the ballot is that it will more than likely pass because of fear.  While I can care less about strip clubs, I think the over zealous residents of the metro posting on the Enquirer board are misguided.  If the region had strip clubs all over the place I might feel a little differently about them being a problem in our communities.  In the Cincinnati region, we have two in Ohio.... TWO!  One in Franklin and one in Newtown.  The CCV will only bring upon our region more, "Cincinnati is ultra conservative" bullsh*t from this.  The CCV needs to stop pushing their morals upon the entire state.

Seems like this law would make tipping damn near impossible.

Damn....and I'm loaded with singles & fives!

Maybe they're just mad that they don't have a stripclub in Sharonville (correct me if I'm wrong).  I'm sure if the love is spread around a little bit, they'll change their minds lol

The act would:

• Ban nude dancing after midnight or before 6 a.m.

Hmmmm...........I'd be up to go see a show at 10:00am...............LOL

Thank god for these people who tell me what's best for me..

As far as not getting to the ballot box.. I used to believe the same thing about the bigoted same sex marriage legislation. I take solace in having a democrat in the governor's seat now. I think.

The Jews don’t recognize Christ as the Messiah.

The Protestants don’t recognize the authority of the Pope, and

The Southern Baptists don’t recognize each other in a liquor store.

CCV sounds like a bunch of fascist creeps... imagine what other kinds of 'uniformity' these fools might have in store for the rest of us...

One of the guys who posted a comment to the article on the Enquirer website has set up an online petition to Ohio legislators asking them to not endorse this.

Monte, I kind of got the impression that that was one or 2 people spamming the board.  Look at the comments section from today's article and you'll see a much more encouraging concensus.

^ just posted my first comment in another city!  :)  I feel sooooo Cincinnati now

Did I read this right?  Did I read that Metro Cincy has only TWO strip clubs?  These people are making this big a deal over TWO clubs?  Holy crap, these people's heads would explode if they ever came up here to Cleveland!

You know...to think of it, they need to relax...maybe we should send em over to Warren for a nice asian massage!

^ Metro Cincy on the Ohio side only has two strip clubs that are full nude.  Right across the river in Newport and Covington there are numerous strip clubs but they are pasties or bikini strip clubs.  Dayton Metro is only 30 minutes up the road and home to the most strip clubs in Ohio so if a local Cincinnatian wanted to go to strip clubs it wouldn't be a problem.

They all need to masturbate.

That made me nearly spit my tea everywhere. Thanks for the laugh!

Monte,

Where do you find the info for what metro has the most strip clubs in Ohio?

Well, I don't know where you can find complete info, but it's pretty hard to compete when one street alone (Dixie [appropriately named]) has about 15 strip clubs in a 2 mile stretch alone...

Sounds like Louisville! There is a phelora of strip clubs, etc. along the Dixie Highway. Some conservative groups frequently stalk and photograph the patrons...

Exactly.

Cincinnati is very proud to have rid itself of porn & strip clubs. In reality, they just shoved it across the river where the smaller towns have a harder time dealing with it.

The legislation these guys want to pass is statewide, tho. It is not just a regional issue.

Cleveland will be affected by this as well if it is passed.

Wow, legislation like this, if passed, would put Ohio one step closer to Utah...

Every region has hate groups, ours happens to be the CCV.

Never been there so hard to compare for me...but when I think in metro Cleveland I think of Brookpark Rd, w 25th, and downtown as the biggest concentration...with others scattered about the area  (wow..have we sunk to who has the most strip clubs as bragging rights!?!?!  lol)

Living in Cleveland I can say that Toronto is looking better and better each day!  Not that I frequent strip clubs, I just object to anyone "stripping away" any freedom of choice.  And on a serious note, all this talk about Family Values but Ohio schools for the most part SUCK!  How about directing some energy into improving education instead of closing strip clubs?  Oh, that's right, a good education might cause people to be able to THINK for THEMSELVES and so we are right back at stripping away personal freedoms.

There.  I feel better now.

^ What do you mean by that Quimbob?

^ I mean we keep banning & over-regulating stuff.

Gay marriage bans, smoking bans, gambling, CCV has all sorts of things hey don't want you to do...

The beauracracy regulating businesses scares away investment.

The state is constantly coming up with more & more things that you "can't do".

I absolutely agree that all this banning of things is not good for business.  I work in Human Resources and do a lot of work in diversity.  We operate in all 50 states.  I can tell you that getting top talent to go where it is needed is not always an easy task in the first place let alone when there is a veil of "ugh" and backward attitude about location way BEFORE even discussing things like salary, perks, and relocation.  And that is just with individual candidates for jobs.  When the decision is about whether or not to locate an entire business or a branch of that business somewhere the task, I'm sure, is even more daunting.

Strip clubs lap up visitors' money

Convention official: Spike this bill

Tuesday, May 01, 2007

Aaron Marshall

Plain Dealer Bureau

Columbus- Harsh new proposed regulations on strip clubs could hit Cleveland right in the wallet by making the city less attractive to those picking convention sites, says the city's top tourism official.

"The people who make the decisions on where to bring a convention consider a wide variety of issues and offerings," Dennis Roche, president of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland, said in an interview on Monday. "I wouldn't call it a deal maker, but I would call it a tie-breaker," he added, referring to adult entertainment such as strip bars.

The bill in front of Ohio lawmakers would impose a six-foot barrier between strippers and patrons and would force strip clubs to end their nude or semi-nude entertainment at midnight. It recently passed the Ohio Senate 24-8, and is expected to be approved by House lawmakers.

Phill Buress is such an ass.  He does not represent Cincinnati!

The new regulations on adult businesses are before lawmakers thanks to a petition drive by Citizens for Community Values, a socially conservative group from the Cincinnati area.

Grrr...

Phill Buress is such an ass.  He does not represent Cincinnati!

That fool doesn't even represent Sharonville.

^ I don't know, he just might.  Sharonville might just be the most conservative right wing suburb in Cincinnati.

In Georgia and New Jersey I know for a fact you can throw a dollar on a strippers A$$ or put it where you please!  I would never go to a strip club again if this law was enacted I would never go to another strip club and I'm sure a lot of men would feel the same way.

I will never understand what it is like to feel I could tell someone else what to do and have a divine right to protect others from what is big and bad.

Amen!

What a surprise, CCV are liars.

I just don't understand why Ohio legislators are letting the extreme right dictate state policy :?
