Posted July 28, 200618 yr I just got a dog a week and a half ago. I have never had a dog before. Yes, I know, isn't that sad! I will be 28 years old in two weeks and I have never owned a pet before (my parents never allowed it and I never had the means to get one or take care of one until now). So I finally got the dog I always wanted....a Sheltie. His name is Bono (yes, like the U2 singer). He is six months old, already house-broken, and crate trained. He has a great personality and loves to play. So far the chewing hasn't been too bad. I imagine this is what having a toddler is like - making sure they potty trained and picking up all the toys after him. Any advice for a first-time dog owner? I just adore him. Here he is below: he is sitting next to my husband's hairy leg, not mine! Isn't he adorable? Sorry if this is cheezy, but I'm a proud mom!
July 28, 200618 yr Sweet! Shelties have such a great disposition; they're as lovable as a Collie and not so big.
July 28, 200618 yr Thanks, he's been a real joy. Quote from Rob: Shelties have such a great disposition; they're as lovable as a Collie and not so big. That's exactly my point. They are lovable, smart, easy to train, good around other people, kids, and pets. And for me, the perfect size. I mean I love Labs and Golden retrievers but I watch my neighbors get whiplash from those big dogs all the time. Since I'm only 5' 2", I figured I should stick with a smaller size dog.
