The other day my mother and I made a trip out to Chelsea to get a tour of the Jiffy factory there (the only in the world).  It was near downtown so I got a lot of pictures from there too.

A very nice town, but too small for my tastes. Great pics!

Sweet-looking place! Lots of historic buildings still in good condition and in use. The depot is a beauty.

Nice!

Went back to Chelsea recently, it's one of my favorite small towns in the state.

nice job -- certainly looks a lot different from my chelsea!

While Chelsea appears small, it's about to undergo some explosive growth.  Its close proximity to Ann Arbor offers young families a great place to live with a nice downtown, and excellent schools.  They can still be downtown AA in about 15 minutes, yet live a peaceful lifestyle in this quiet, but very active community.  The downtown is amazingly healthy and it definitely has a bright future.

I only wish they'd open a commuter line that ran from the depot to downtown AA perhaps a line that went between Jackson to Ann Arbor, and then on to Detroit.  Currently the Amtrak blasts through there at 75 mph on its way to Chicago.

What makes this city have a median income for a family $72,000+?

A beautiful town, and it looks very well appointed!

Glad this one came back up, missed it the first time.  Some great old buildings, and a downtown that doesn't have a bunch of empty storefronts.  Love the Clocktower.  Kind of different to see the chimney going up through the dormer on this pic (with a window-like opening):

Thanks for the tour.

I actually interviewed in Chelsea at Chelsea Center for the Arts, back in 2003.  I was *invited* (I was asked but had to drive and pay for my own hotel - small town, small arts organization, small budget) and although I liked its quaintness, I think it felt a little too small-town and I felt like an outsider when I met several of the board members.

ANYwho, they had a really cool community art project that they were in the midst of completing when I was there.  I guess the town had been recovering from the after-shock of the loss of 3 teens that previous summer so they all banned together to create this community healing project (my background is art therapy so of course I thought it cool), a spiral, glass-tiled mosaic that you can actually walk on.

(it took me forever to find that link!! lol)

Also, one other neat tidbit of useless Chelsea, Michigan trivia:  actor Jeff Daniels' Purple Rose Theatre is in Chelsea.  I toured the space but no actor sightings happened :)
