August 1, 200618 yr Exactly how do you say Amherst? You should hear me try Elyria. Anyway, nice pics, don't know that I've ever seen Amherst.
August 1, 200618 yr ^ what no comments about surfing lake erie? come on you guys -- who needs cali!?! ink -- AM-hurst or am-erst are acceptable, mostly the latter. my old college roomate from pittsburgh used to call it: EL-lee-RYE-ah. i could not argue that  (for those who don't know the real pronounciation of elyria is: ee-LEAR-ree-ah or occasionally ah-LEAR-ree-ah). ssscincy -- check out some drew carey show on re-runs. garage/backyard pool playing is always en vogue in ne ohio. the car can go sit on the lawn up on blocks where it belongs! while playing pool you will actually hear beer-fueled mercifully brief semi-ambitious talk about "building another garage for car" :-D :drunk:
August 1, 200618 yr That flea market looks down-home folksy! Some of those joints in Amherst look like the kind of place you'd take your motorcycle chain on a Saturday night and have a heck of a time. These are live traps. They look like raccoon-sized. Mom's neighbor set one out because something was killing his chickens, and one morning he found an absolutely furious bobcat in it; it was harder to set loose than it was to catch. He and a friend put poles through the cage and loaded it into the back of a pickup and took it about forty miles away to a back road next to a woods, and used a rope attached to the latch to open it. That cat practically exploded out of the cage and disappeared into the woods in a flash. Maybe the stroller explains why this party girl isn't in Urbana any more:
August 2, 200618 yr What, no pictures of the rose garden at Lakeview? The Metroparks are spending a half mil renovating it and it looks really nice - I've seen a lot of retired folks strolling through it, probably reliving their memories of being young, in love, and at the park for a date.
August 2, 200618 yr I had never heard of this fraternal order, so if course, I had to google it. The Knights of the Maccabees organized in 1878 in London, Ontario. A primary tenet of the organization was providing aid and support to children and widows of deceased members. In the 1960s the Maccabees reorganized as the Maccabees Mutual Insurance Company. The company still exists.

August 18, 200618 yr Jamie's Flea Market is cool, use to go every Saturday. As for Lorain, it sucks. Lived there all my life and it is not worth taking pics of! Sorry for being negative, but there is just nothing in Lorain. can't wait to get out of here!!
August 19, 200618 yr mrnyc - that rose garden's tough to photograph - I need a hook and ladder truck to get a good overview. Will try to post what I could get soon... By the way, the Morning Journal reports that the new design for the Lakeview bathhouse has been selected. Here's a rendering from loraincountymetroparks.com: looks a lot better than this:
September 25, 200618 yr Finally found a couple of aerial shots of Lakeview Park's renovated rose gardens in Lorain - it looks like these were taken early in the summer as the garden is now over 50% complete.
September 25, 200618 yr wow thats stunning vs what it was. it looks like it has permanant concrete instead of gravel paths. it will really be something by next summer. i'm glad the county is in charge of the park now & not the broke-azz city, so it wont get all run down again. do you know when they will start renovating the beachhouse? great find.
September 26, 200618 yr from the Morning Urinal today: Lakeview Park to have big year in '07 KATE GIAMMARISE , Morning Journal Writer Content edited 9-4-09 to comply with terms of use
September 26, 200618 yr The new bathhouse will be a replica of the original 1917 bathhouse, which was destroyed in the Lorain tornado of 1924. It will be built on the original building's foundation, which is still there. The main level will feature large glass windows for a view of Lake Erie. ''Our goal is very simple: The finest facility on Lake Erie,'' Martin said. The tentative date for the opening of the renovated bathhouse is Labor Day weekend next year, though Martin cautioned that is not a firm date. wow that's great news. the county is really pulling no punches here with lakeview park, i am impressed. i have an old pic or photocopy of a pic of my grandmother lifeguarding there before the original bathhouse was built, i'll take a look for it.
September 26, 200618 yr ^ yes. it used to be the afternoon urinal many years ago. actually we tease it's a decent local paper.
August 17, 200717 yr It is the "Morning Journal". Urinal is pretty funny though, especially with all the s*** that goes on in Lorian.
