Posted August 4, 200618 yr Chicken Tika Masala --This stuff is amazing. I swear they secretly put crack in it! When you ask for extra meat they unapolegetically charge you over 7 dollars for the burrito, but it's the only way I'll eat it. I need my protein :wink2:
August 5, 200618 yr Where do you get the Masala at? There's three Indian restaurants on Ludlow ave. clustered together (close to UC). I usually go to Ambar. Mango juice is the nectar of the Gods! Beer and Doritos I hope you're not one of those idiots that drinks Natty light. P.S. -Anyone that doesn't post in this thread is officially LAME.
August 5, 200618 yr Out of fear of being LAME, I'll post... Last night, my favorite food was mushroom risotto...tonight, it was blackened lamb chops and garlic mashed potatoes...tomorrow, it'll be whatever Issue430 and I whip up for dinner...in the end, I have simple tastes!
August 5, 200618 yr I always do feel pretty LAME when it comes to a food discussion. The people I see every day are always talking about some food or other that they made, or their experiences at any one of a gazillion restaurants in town, maybe four of which I've actually been to. I guess in my world food tends to be not much more than a way to keep from dying. Don't think I could really name a favorite. In any event, my favorite food is about to become cardboard and bits of string around the apartment if I don't do some serious grocery shopping this weekend!
August 5, 200618 yr In any event, my favorite food is about to become cardboard and bits of string around the apartment if I don't do some serious grocery shopping this weekend! You are in a bad situation right now but let me assure you I can resolve all of your problems with two words: Ramen noodles. the best 17 cents you'll ever spend.
August 6, 200618 yr In any event, my favorite food is about to become cardboard and bits of string around the apartment if I don't do some serious grocery shopping this weekend! You are in a bad situation right now but let me assure you I can resolve all of your problems with two words: Ramen noodles. the best 17 cents you'll ever spend. Ah... Ramen Noodles, the lunch of champions. I've got six packs of Ramen Noodles in my desk at work... the least expensive lunch out there. As for favorite foods... I'd have to say anything Italian. There isn't much that comes out of Italy that I won't eat (which is why a no-carbs diet just wouldn't work for me).
August 6, 200618 yr I went throught my four undergraduate years without resorting to Ramen noodles; I'll be damned if I'm going to start with them now! I am now happily well-stocked with food... but still no favorite.
August 6, 200618 yr oh god....there are so many options Ice Cream (this has been discussed in an earlier thread) Coffee (isn't this a food group? lol) Pasteles Italian Spanish (Tasca/Tapas) Soul Food now I'm hungry!!! I went throught my four undergraduate years without resorting to Ramen noodles; I'll be damned if I'm going to start with them now! I am now happily well-stocked with food... but still no favorite. I'm freshman year at Ohio St., my "room mate" used to eat that shit for breakfast, lunch and dinner! I was so repulsed... those things are horrible.
August 7, 200618 yr To answer your question, yes, coffee is a food group; and for me it's at the bottom of the pyramid because there's always more servings than pasta. I love Italian food and basically anything utilizing noodles. Chicken Alfredo, Ziti, Lasagna, it's all good. Then for desert i'll take a jumbo cream puff from Schmidt's in German Village.
August 13, 200618 yr Athens, Ohio not a damn thing not even Souvlaki's? I had a delightful meal there... does Athens have an Indian restaurant? What about Thai?
August 14, 200618 yr Once you have Jewel of Toledo, no Indian restaurant compares, except maybe Raja Rani in Ann Arbor. Ummm...Indian Oven isn't even top 5 in Columbus, let alone good. August 14, 200618 yr >Thai in Athens??- Nothing even close to authentic, Actually where that Japanese place is across from BW3's there used to be a Thai restaurant. They took me there when I visited OU, trying to impress me with Athens' worldliness. It wasn't any good and I was hungry about 90 minutes later. I remember originally they were going to take me to Star of India but I told them I didn't want to go because I had a psychotic Indian roommate at the time who poured jugs of water over himself in his bedroom, spilling water all over the place and not cleaning it up. That dude also was afraid of washing dishes and would hide dirty dishes in the oven and keep re-using them for weeks with mold growing on them. When he took showers he would exhort "mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mi!" and sort of shiver as he sang it. And to top it off he once handed me a slip of folded paper without saying anything, it was a web address and I took a look and it turned out to be this probably illegal sex rendezvous site. Another time I went jogging with him at night and he climbed a high fence and tried to steal a sailboat. I convinced him not to untie the boat because there wasn't any wind -- a rare moment of reasoning. >If I were to recommend one local establishment to friends, it'd be the Red Brick Tavern, but partly because of $2 domestic pitchers all summer. When I got to college, I actually lost the freshman fifteen because the food was so ass. I never lived in the dorms, I don't know what was going on out there. >After one year in Athens, I was the skinniest I've ever been, though heavy alcohol consumption has now rendered my body soft. Maybe when night falls they should roll a portable obstacle course out into Court St. and the drunks could burn off some calories climbing ropes and such before passing out. When I lived on Mill St. I liked to go running down on the bike path early in the week after closing time, when you're drunk jogging kind of feels like you're flying.

August 14, 200618 yr ^ that doesn't make sense. is there really more fat in fajita vegetables than pinto beans?
August 14, 200618 yr you also have to remember who holds a controlling share in chipotle (mcdonald's)
August 14, 200618 yr As I understand it, McDonald's only owns 40% of Chipotle. Favorite foods? Grandma's pierogi, Slyman's corned beef, panang curry (with chicken) and big, dumb, greasy, floppy, cheesy Jumbo Slice Pizza.
August 14, 200618 yr As I understand it, McDonald's only owns 40% of Chipotle. according to hoover's its, 65% http://www.hoovers.com/chipotle/--ID__106335--/free-co-factsheet.xhtml
August 14, 200618 yr Damn. Why the disconnect between MickeyD's majoriity ownership and the quality of food, then?
August 14, 200618 yr Chipotle IPOed earlier this year but not sure how much of its stake McDo's offered up (I suppose 35% if Pope's Hoover ref is current). Most delicious public offering in a long time... Word is that McDo had a laissez faire attitude toward its management which explains the quality disconnect.
August 14, 200618 yr Just because it's owned by McDonalds that doesn't necessarily mean that the quality is on the same level. Chipotle tastes way more fresh.
August 14, 200618 yr Just because it's owned by McDonalds that doesn't necessarily mean that the quality is on the same level. Chipotle tastes way more fresh. That's exactly what we meant by "disconnect".
August 15, 200618 yr ^I would think so. Pinto beans are pretty healthy. Theres nothing wrong with calories, carbs, and fat. Eating processed food with empty calories is what's unhealthy. A 1200 calorie steak burrito is just what I need as a post-workout meal :] I'm starting to turn into a health nut though because whenever I make ramen noodles I always take a multi vitamin/mineral suppliment. Those things are nothing but bleached flour and sodium.
