I've got a lot of random shots lying around and I figured I'd make them into a sort of "where's this?" photo thread.  Though recent photo posts put my camera-work to shame (thanks a lot MayDay & Clevelumbus!), I figured this could be a fun venue for posting random shots that aren't clearly identifiable.  Sorry, I have no prizes for correct guesses, but you'll win my respect and admiration if you haven't already!

#1 - My most recent avatar:

#2 - What station is this?

IMG_7810.jpg

#3 - This one may be too easy, but I like the odd angles and density:

IMG_7782.jpg

#4 - Similar to the last one, but less dense and more hilly:

IMG_7813.jpg

#5 - Two more versions of density:

#6 - Old timey:

#7 - For rent:

#8 - Put your horsies here:

#9 - Some of the most expensive homes in the City of Cleveland

#10 - I would presume this space is also available for rent!

I guess it's time for me to renounce any connection to Cleveland.  :-(

I haven't got the foggiest idea as to where any of those locations are at. :|

This is a fun thread! I know some of these:

1. Market St. and West 26th (Gold dome of Market Wine Bar)

2. Cedar/Univ. Circle Station

3. No idea (E12th st?)

4. Cedar and Murray Hill

5. No idea

6. No idea (Little Italy?)

7. 38th and Whitman

8. Carriage house of mansion on 48th and Franklin

9. Somewhere in edgewater area

10. John and Randall (old Marshall McCaron (sp?))

3. E 12th - Chesterfield, Bohn Tower (CMHA), Parkview Apts (Allerton Hotel) with the red top

4. That hideous white modern nursing home and the cool old apartments on Ambleside (CMHA Ambleside Tower in the background) at Cedar and Murray Hill.

5.  This one tortured me for a while - it's a one-way street, the number in the storefront is 1302 which I assume is an address, a CMHA looking highrise in the background, and a Jetta parked out front.  I think it's one of the streets north of Detroit near Our Lady of Mount Carmel but I'd know for sure if there was a red-white-green telephone pole anywhere in the background for the Italian neighborhood.

6.  This is killing me - looks like an alley with a school/warehouse at the end of the block, but I can't place the wall and terra cotta roof (maybe Little Italy north of Mayfield facing Lake View Cemetery?)

#9   Fairhill East of MLK (?)

#3 Near Reserve Square

#5 Near Battery Park (the OTHER Little Italy)

#6  One street South of Mayfield behind (forgot the name) the close Italian rest.

Pretty good so far!

#6 seems to be stumping people...good!

#9 is, indeed on Fairhill, east of MLK.  I believe it's called Fairhill Village.  They were built in 1930 and one recently sold for over $630k!

#5 is, as two of you correctly guessed, in the other Little Italy.  West 69th, to be exact.

I'm gonna break your rules by guessing this one and not posting the next photo thread (gotta cut an out of towner some slack!).  A rear alley behind WRHS?

I'm totally baffled. It looks a little like the edge of one of the surface lots in Little Italy, just south of Algebra Tea House. But that alleyway would be out of place :( Perhaps I just have coffee/tea houses on the mind, but might it be the alley that runs parallel to Juniper off of Ford?

Here are my guesses without looking at the previous replies..

1. Market Square

2. UC rapid station, looking north

3. Reserve Square and its neighbors

4. Ambler Heights

5. Cedar Rd, looking at the Senior housing that faces Carnegie near CCF

6. WRHS alley

7. I don't know the intersection, but its in Ohio City behind St. Pat's (John and W.41st??)

8. W.45th and Franklin

9. Belgian village

10. on John in the OC

Well, Straphanger was the first to get it, but as he stated in the post, he's breaking the rules...and Wimwar was the next to guess correctly, so now he gets to post the next pic!

By the way, the alley is called Cook Lane and it could potentially be the site of an exciting new development.  Mum's the word, though!

I am just seeing this thread for the first time but still want to play... More trivia please!

ditto

Hopefully we have a nice weekend coming up so I can run around and snap some photos for this thread - have a few ideas but no images of them yet.

Had to get this thread re-started - can't let the Cinci people have all the fun!

1.

CIMG0127.jpg

2. Spell check?

CIMG0138.jpg

3. Cool spiral columns

CIMG0139.jpg

I have no idea where any of them are, but they're really cool shots!

2. Is the Cleveland Convention Center, carved in stone around the top is:

"A monument conceived as a tribute to the ideals of Cleveland. Builded by her citizens and dedicated to social progress, industrial achievement and civic interest."

I have no idea about the other two.  I'll wait to post a pic and see if anyone else can get the other two first.

#2 looks like a detail of the Cleveland Public Auditorium/Public Hall/Convention Center.

* Ooops. Just saw jar3232's post.

Very Good -

1. St Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Church on West 14th in Tremont.

2. Cleveland Convention Center

3. Still a mystery?

Bill

does this make #3 easier?

That church looks like one in Parma (which has some very impressive churches, BTW). I can't remember what main thoroughfare it's on -- maybe State Road?

I give in - it's St. Andrew Church on Superior just west of E. 55th.  I was impressed by those columns when searching for the Town Fryer the first time, and snapped a pic.

For some interesting Cleveland trivia, St. Andrew parish was the original home of Benedictine High School.  From Benedictine's website (cbhs.net):

"Benedictine High School opened its doors in 1927 at its first location at East 51st Street and Superior Avenue in Cleveland.  The founders focused on educating the sons of Slovak  immigrants.  The new school grew popular with young men of a variety of backgrounds and in 1929 had to relocate to larger facilities on Buckeye Road near Shaker Square."

Someone has to post some more trivia photos - I need my fix.

Ok, fine!

dude, you really give it away in your photos for the university circle thread......

If anyone can guess without checking that thread.......

Pelican Bay?

Nah, I know what it is; I take every opportunity I get to rail against that creepy POS.

Where's the VA when you really need it?!

yeah, I know, buckeye1 was really fiending, though, and I'd just uploaded this shot!

Okeydokey, have a crack at these:

#1 - Chimney Pot of Mather Mansion at Cleveland State University - guessed by Musky

trivia1.jpg

#2 - Clock on steeple of Old Stone Church - guessed by Mister Good Day

trivia2.jpg

#3 - Statue of St. Paul on former Pauline Bookstore at Ontario and Prospect - guessed by buckeye1

trivia3.jpg

#4 (Hint - Ho ho HO) - Detail of Higbee Building, guessed by wimwar

trivia4.jpg

#5 - Access stairwell on Mall A (leading to parking garage of Key Tower): - guessed by ella

trivia5.jpg

great idea for a thread --- but mayday's are too hard for me. maybe his #1 are something in the cemetary and the old church on public square?  :|

mgd's #10 caught my eye right away.....

IMG_5916.jpg

....it seems sort of inspired by the "i love you" tagger

who was all over downtown manhattan a couple years ago

iloveyou.jpg

Just taking a couple shots here:

1) Mather Memorial Building?

2) Old Stone Church?

3) St. Johns?

4) Federal Reserve?

5) Key Tower?

maybe the I love you tagger is from Cleve-o?

I believe this same guy/gal has tagged "show me love Cleveland" and "I love Cleveland" around Ohio City.  Anyone else spotted anything?

i'm a failure and I'm never visiting this thread again...

#1 is Mather Mansion

That's the only one I thinkI know.

You know, the only reason I knew was because I was on the Mather roof yesterday taking... pictures.

But not of the roof.

Does that mean I get to put a picture up?

Or, do I have to guess all of them.

What are the rules anyway? It seems like a free-for-all.agresivo.gif

yes, free for all!

Ok, here is my first one.

Mayday - tough photos!  Is #3 the side of the Catholic bookstore at Prospect and Ontario (Pauline Books?)

Aw, man.

That was fast.

I thought I would have people going on that one for a while, what with the ivy crucifix being so distracting.

Good job.

musky's photo has one of Cleveland's more decrepit public schools in the foreground - George Washington Carver on E 55th.  Hope they're replacing that one with their building project.

MayDay -

Is your #5 image from the spiral access stairways to the Key Tower parking lot just East of the Key Tower??

MayDay's  #4 and #5 still need answers.

I'll post a new one - maybe too easy.

^ Back end of the West Side Market

Where is that last one Mister Good Day posted at in University Circle??
