  • BTW, the reason why I was asking someone this morning about the status of Flats East Bank Phase 3B (the 12-story apartment building) is because Wolstein is getting involved in another big project. Whe

These are REALLY coming along!! I know I’ve said it before, but I just can’t get over how amazing the design, scale/density, boardwalk frontage, windows, multi-level outdoor spaces, etc. all are. Espe

jssdecker, great shots!  Be careful up there.  Sometimes we take buildings getting taller for granted, and forget that theres people like you crawling across the steel to do it.  Thanks Man!

good point gotribe!

Great pics!!!  Definitely a different perspective on the construction of the tower.  Thanks for posting jssdecker, continue to keep us updated.

Great set of pictures!

In picture #2 at the bottom left, you can see the hotel starting to rise.  Picture #3 gives a good sense of the height and is nicely composed.  But, I love the view from picture #4.  I actually might prefer an office on the southeast side of the building with that view as opposed to a northern view of the lake.

Jssdecker, do you know the target date of when the buildings will be topped out?

jssdecker, you win the best photos of the month contest. OK, so we don't have that contest, but if we did, you would certainly win it! Thanks!!

EDIT: btw, the fog shot is my fave. Makes me think of the West Side Highway in Manhattan.

Agreed.

YOU are THERE!!!  Very nice, jssdecker.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments.  The core is moving about a floor a week.  So with being on 16 yesterday, the core should be topped out in about six weeks.  Structural steel is two floors below so probably 8 weeks with good weather and no rain.  The hotel construction has not even started yet other than the stairway core to the south of the project.  What you were seeing was the parking garage and the retail area between the hotel and the tower which is the first three stories of the project.  I will try to get more photos as we go up.  I am getting bounced around right now on numerous jobs around the city.

Good to know a worker of your talents is in such 'high' demand around here ;)

This building seems surprisingly tall. I mean, it's already impressive to drive and/or ride the bus past it and see how much it looms over the Shoreway. And to think it will add six more floors -- that will be impressive. Originally I wasn't too impressed with a 20-something-story building going up. But now I'm changing my tune.

^Yeah, given the context of the area it will be the dominant structure.  I'm not sure I would want it to be much taller than they have planned.

It's really messed up the sight lines with the electronic billboard on CBS.  I'm wondering if the Browns will end up moving that sign.

^yeah i thought the same thing. also, that its a nice problem to have!

Got some new pictures today.

Some different angles...

The hotel is going up now.

Careful. You're about to become an UrbanOhio celebrity!!

Would you be willing to take the last picture again when the hotel is a bit farther along? Or maybe just on a sunny day with the rail line and your ironworker's view from the adjacent construction? If so, I would love to use it in my association's next newsletter to show a unique view of transit-oriented development!

There sure are a lot of cars parked at the Powerhouse

Are saying that something "fishy" is going on there? hilarious.gif

i would love to see construction on some of those damn lots, too. ah someday.

I was thinking the same thing.

Great shots of the construction!  There's no way I would climb up that ladder in the center of the crane.

Got some new pictures today.

Cool pic!

Yikes the lack of traffic on the bridge sure is depressing tho!

It's often like that in the middle of the day. The Shoreway is not an Interstate so it's mostly a commuter road.

It's been a while since I've been down to the FEB site, but  I made it down there this past weekend, and I got some pics.

I like that last shot. Cool!

We need our expert jssdecker here to confirm this, but looking at the webcam and current pics, it looks like the steel structure is halfway up.  Looks like they are at the break in the steel on the two floors facing Lake Erie.

I superimposed over dar124's photo the final rendering as a reference to where the building roughly stands with construction

Damn, you got a talent! Nice job! That IS going to be a pretty respectably sized building.

whoa, it already feels like it towers over Route 2...this thing is gonna dominate its surroundings more than I thought.

the offices are going to be really close to the cars going by...

^ Probably not as close as you'd think.  I believe there's over 100 feet between the edge of the bridge and the office tower, but, when you're driving on the shoreway, it feels like you're right up against it.

It's going to be kinda like driving in a video game lol.

I'm sure MayDay was in the passenger's seat -- right, MayDay??

Thanks MayDay! Love the third picture...!

I agree mrclifton88 the 3rd pic down from MayDay is a good one!!!  It'll be interesting to see that same pic in 2 mos / 4 mos / 6 mos, etc.

The building is gonna look good from the Shoreway once glass starts going up.

Is the hotel portion going to be seen from the Shoreway?  It is going to be something like 8 stories.  Maybe it's too early to tell yet.

^ Accroding to this shot, the hotel appears to just peak over the bridge.  Looks like it's visible, but just.

The hotel appears to go up to level 5 in the office:

Nice shot!

But with the hotel portion being barely visible, that's annoying as far as sightseeing goes lol. Just like the newest Stonebridge building that's just not quite visible enough from the Shoreway!

Looks like it's just the right height for an off-ramp from the Shoreway onto the roof of the hotel!

So will the movie theater still be built down in the flats? If so what does that mean for Tower City's theater will it stay open?

That got "value-engineered" out of the plan. It's going to be tough enough for the developer to get financing for the apartments, let alone any supportive retail, theaters, etc.

What was once my favorite approach by freeway into a city is about to become.. my "even more favorite" approach by freeway into a city. ;)

Love how the hotel peeks through. Peeks/Peaks its really the same formal expression. Should make for a great project.. but I really hope this can expand more soon and not end half-heartedly.

Keep up the momentum!

Upon closer examination, I'm very concerned with how the parking garage will interact with the sidewalk. This pic kinda glosses over the details.

From the angle Trav posted, the green space looks kind of attractive.  At least it matches the river ;)

Looks like it's just the right height for an off-ramp from the Shoreway onto the roof of the hotel!

I keep wondering if the building is going to get blasted with snow from a plow truck going westbound on a snowy day
