Got a Yelp message to check out a new place, "Bold" in FEB. Wanted to see where it was, so I hit up trusty Google Maps and found half of the original Old River Road (Peabodys, John Harvards Ale House, etc) still hauntingly there.

How has Google not updated this?

Google Earth seems to update sooner, but I've seen street views as old as 2007.

Even the satellite views can lag.  The back end of our building showed up as intact a good year after it wasn't.

  • BTW, the reason why I was asking someone this morning about the status of Flats East Bank Phase 3B (the 12-story apartment building) is because Wolstein is getting involved in another big project. Whe

What's the latest on a prospective Phase III groundbreaking?

What's the latest on a prospective Phase III groundbreaking?

Take this FWIW; I met someone at a Xmas party involved in downtown developments, FEB especially, who told me that Phase III was 'definitely happening'. Didn't elaborate on timelines, but I'd assume per the current plan.

My hovercraft is full of eels

^Fairmount definitely indicated they are moving forward.  I'm sure they need to get all the financing pieces in place (which IIRC, they were pretty close).  Just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if they put it off till after the RNC because of the hassles to visitors with building on the parking lot.  Just a guess; hopefully I'm wrong.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but signs are up for "East End Bar & Grill" in the southernmost riverfront space on Old River Road (where it intersects with the rapid tracks and St. Clair).  "Coming Spring 2016." It's nice  see some life coming back to that stretch!  The whole street plays host to sort of a bizarre mix of uses for now.

^ i wondered what it looked like inside. that looks really nice -- i am not surpized.

and its especially great to come on this thread and find all this positive ears to the ground intel about phase three.

I've been inside the Northwestern Mutual offices in the E&Y Tower. I think they're on the sixth floor. Stunning views, beautiful offices and building. Very high tech and efficient.

Is this the old BW-3 spot?

No it's the end building across the street from the old BW3 place.

Something called Magnolia night club is being planned by the people from FWD. The address is 1167 Front St. which looks to be next to Big Bang or somewhere close.

It looks like they started a Twitter page, but nothing on it yet. Interesting find.

Possibly the Toby Keith unused building? Probably the right size for an indoor version of FWD focusing on EDM.

There are 2 vacant spaces totalling 5500+ sq ft between Big Bang and Crop Stix on leasing map and believe that is the more likely for FWD. 4000+ Sq ft proposed for "speakeasy"... Cavernous Toby spot is 4x larger.

Unveiling scheduled Thursday at Aloft Hotel for Main Avenue Bridge Underpass Improvement Design

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Chicago-based urban design firm of PORT Urbanism on Thursday will unveil a detailed plan to improve the shadowy, confusing zone under the Main Avenue Bridge that separates the Historic Warehouse District from the new Flats East Bank development on the Cuyahoga River.

The plan calls for new signs, pavement striping, plantings, seating areas and sculptural lighting elements.

It will be presented to the general public at the Aloft Hotel Riviera Ballroom, 1111 W. 10th Street, in a program from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance announced.  The presentation is to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Confusing? I'd say the one-way conversion of Old River Road has been far more confusing for motorists. I don't really think there's any pressing need for renovation of this space. Oh well, hoping for the best with this plan.

Streetscape under a bridge?  I wish this kind of effort and coordination could be applied to more meaningful investments.

Margaritaville is moving into the Toby Keith space. ESPN Zone is, according to my source, signed onto the next phase.

Thought I'd enter the group with a bang :) :shoot:

Thanks for posting!

I have a hard time believing the ESPN Zone part. Disney closed down all of their ESPN Zone locations a few years back with the exception of the one at Downtown Disney in LA. Did something change where they're looking to expand again?

I called the Margaritaville taking over TB last fall.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Should I be disappointed that it looks like a tumbleweed should be rolling thru any one of those photos and the trains are basically empty?

Or were these taken at an odd time?

On a side note they are some nice shots ?

There were lots of people walking around and cars traveling by. And there were actually a few people on the WFL. Sometimes a still-shot camera doesn't capture the energy of being there.

Fair enough...

Just hoping that the place (FEB) continues to prosper in general.

Hooters also signed a lease for the next phase.

Hooters...seriously?

What no Chi Chi's...I appreciate the development as a whole and the painstaking work getting it financed, but sometimes Wolstein thinks it's still 1992.

Hooters...seriously?

Dead serious.  I'm told they signed the space next to ESPN Zone.

while I will never frequent either of those establishments...with both an ESPN zone and a hooters signed, does that indicate we are preparing for construction soon?

Whenever I'm in another big city on business, I always joke about meeting up with friends who live in that town at their local ESPN Zone!

If one opened up in Cleveland--which I'm 99% sure is a joke--I'd be compelled to meet up with them wen they visit here!!

In that case, the joke would be on me...

Not only is it a dead chain, but the idea that Cleveland can support unimaginative corporate dining/entertainment options needs to be abandoned. Developers who promise "big" tenants need to be scrutinized (I'm talking about you Stark Enterprises) further. There's a reason there's only a handful of chains downtown. People who live downtown prefer the Pickle over Potbelly's and nobody drives to downtown Cleveland for a national chain...

Unless it's a national chain that isn't anywhere else in Northeast Ohio. And there's quite a few of those downtown. They all do pretty well.

So when is Fairmount/Woolstein going to announce Phase III?

First look: Downtown Cleveland Alliance and PORT Urbanism unveil Main Avenue design (photos)

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dramatic new lighting, signs, graphics and architectural features that function like sculpture and/or street furniture highlight the PORT Urbanism design to reboot the shadowy, confusing area underneath the Main Avenue Bridge in the city's downtown.

The Chicago-based firm, which specializes in urban design and civic environments, unveiled the latest version of designs for its proposed Main Avenue Connector project Thursday.

The Downtown Cleveland Alliance, which is organizing the project, scheduled a debut presentation for the designs starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Aloft Hotel Riviera Ballroom, 1111 West 10th St.

Hmm, I think I'm missing something here. There are numerous renderings of the underside of the bridge in which it appears nothing is being proposed as a change. Doesn't it look like that now?

Also, there is a rendering of new bench seating with a "light bar" on 9th in front of The Archer Apartments parking lot. They show a woman sitting there. She would be staring into the fence they have shown or across the street there is another surface lot. I just don't see it as a point of congregation.

Like I said, maybe I'm missing something. I think the light bars will help under the bridge for sure.

I wonder if they got rid of most of these ideas shown on their website? port

The pics on the PORT website look really cool! I hope it's going to wind up looking that way.

Well they are determined to get a country place for FEB and apparently the group Rascal Flats has formed a restaurant group and will be opening in one of the spaces in the apartment building.

Here it is:

Rascal Flatts restaurant - first in nation - will open at Cleveland's Flats East Bank this year

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Country trio Rascal Flatts plans to open a 10,000-square-foot restaurant and bar at the Flats East Bank project this year, making Cleveland the first city in the nation to gain a country-tinged concept discussed since at least 2012.

On Thursday, a Cleveland design-review committee approved an exterior plan for the eatery, which will be located on the ground floor of an apartment building at the riverfront development. Documents submitted to the city describe an eclectic space that mixes country themes with rustic and industrial stylings.

"A restaurant supported by a national name like Rascal Flatts is the perfect addition to the Flats East Bank," developer Scott Wolstein said in a news release distributed after the public meeting. "From the beginning, we set out to build an urban waterfront destination, and we're excited to be able to offer this type of concept in conjunction with our existing restaurants and entertainment venues. It's also a testament to Cleveland's resurgence for us to be able to attract these types of businesses."

So this is going into the existing apartment building and not the former freestanding Toby Keith's location. Hmm...

Isn't that building already partially built?

Actually it may be.  I know it was unofficially mentioned here, but I thought it was confirmed some where.  I could be wrong though.

Based on Michelle's article, I'm guessing the lease hasn't been finalized yet. They said they'll announce very soon.
