^ It's still possible that a tower could go there, if they decide that it would be profitable. The storage container club is meant to be temporary.

Something called Beach Taco slated for FEB over at design review. That came out of nowhere. What's confusing though is that it shows it to be located where I thought Paninis was supposed to go with a two story location on the river. Has anyone heard that they are out. The FEB website still does list Paninis as a part of phase 2 so I am not sure what the plan is. There are other photos at design review including what appears to be an updated leasing plan.

Well - the person representing Beach Taco at the meeting appears to be Rick Doody - co-founder of the growing Bravo/Brio chain and owner of the local one-off Cedar Creek Grille.... - so it would be fair to assume his group has a new concept...

These previously announced tenants still appear on the leasing map (a few others don't):  Flip Side, FWD, CropRocks, CropStix, Beer Market, The Big Bang piano bar and Toby Keith's LTBAG...

Also shown on the newest leasing plan (and all new to project, from last I saw): Beach Taco, a Brazilian Steakhouse... an Oyster Bar.. a Pizzeria.... the "Brickman Studio" (anyone know what that is?).. a Deli...

and the "Punch Bowl Social" - http://punchbowlsocial.com/ (Locations in Denver, Austin, Portland, Detroit...)

there is one additional square red logo (to right of pizzeria and above Beach Taco, in left center of picture/bottom of main building) - that I can't make out... can anyone else? http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2014/11212014/image/fullsize/Beach_Taco_14.jpg

Must be because I found no references to it on Google.

Yes, it's Kilwin's! About time, been waiting for one since I moved back from Florida; only good thing to ever come out of Michigan! https://www.kilwins.com/

Kilwin's - nice... Have enjoyed them elsewhere. I could make out the "K" - but nothing else.

This better be a huge draw - FEB - because they are putting a giant # of restaurants and bars next to each other - they will need to make this a destination like the old 80s flats in people's minds, in order to fill these spaces with crowds.

A much more sanitized version of the Flats of old!

They better be retaining a marketing genius to promote the area once everything is open.  With so many restaurants and bars (and little else in the way of retail) I hate to see what many of those places are going to be like one a Monday or Tuesday night in January, especially with so many other growing restaurant downtown and in the near by neighborhoods.

Haven't heard anything about Panini's. While I'm no big fan of theirs,  their concept was a lot more inviting than the Beach Taco imho.

This restaurant/bar focused area would be well complemented by a destination movie theater (comfy seats, food/drink, IMAX and so forth, as another way of getting folks to the FEB for something unique and in those establishments. I recall a cinema was in the original plans.

This Punch Bowl Social (PBS???) looks interesting

Punch Bowl Social is a  dining and entertainment mecca, that takes a three prong approach to the cultural movement in social outings.

EAT

Archetypal by design, our scratch kitchen and locally sourced, organic ingredients of the GastroDiner  menu are meant to satisfy the both common and elevated palette.

DRINK

The Punch Bowl Social craft approach to the beverage program provides a re-introduction to the classics, forward thinking in the creation of new trends, local beers & spirits, classic punches, and a redefinition to the direction of mixology, where you can still get great service.

SOCIAL

Old school games take you back to times of simple enjoyment in activity, and provide the environment for group gathering; or being social.

"Punch Bowl Social has eliminated having to choose between respectable food and beverage, and a great social experience.  Punch Bowl Social brings ‘Old School’ entertainment, culinary refinement, and a modern beverage program under one roof.  Our “Dirty Modern” style combines industrial, Victorian, and Modern design elements in a playful, timeless setting for all."

I would like to see a concept like Studio Movie Grill (https://www.studiomoviegrill.com/Default.aspx), AMC's Fork & Screen (https://www.amctheatres.com/food-and-drink/dine-in/fork-and-screen), or perhaps Cleveland Cinema could open up a new concept combining local food and the awesome movies thay are known for showing

It's certainly interesting to see the lineup as it takes shape, even if the announced bars/restaurants don't appeal much to me personally. FEB obviously has a big leg up given that it's actually under construction, but I wonder if FEB and Stark are chasing any of the same national chains for their retail space.

I was hoping for that kind of concept at Playhouse Square, but I think it would also work pretty well here.

^NICE!

Nice pic!

^^ Jury duty?

I wish.  Nobody is picking me to be a juror.  But nice call, as I realize that pic was taken right next to the juror elevators.

Great picture!  Is the new apartment building visible above the Shoreway?

I can't wait to see a 20+ story residential tower in this picture in a few years.  Wishful thinking.

No, you can only see the E&Y Tower and the very top of the Aloft Hotel.

Yes, you can see the new apartment building to the right of the Shoreway and only partially obscured by E&Y and Aloft.

^Not even upset by that, it brings a new business to the area.

Not a huge deal but I feel like the paninis had a way better design that this place...

That paninis picture with the marina did not seem doable at that spot.  Marinas take up a ton of space, and at that location they would be cutting into the breakwall of the river.  At a rough estimate the marina pictured would be about the same size as the one at NCH.

Now places to tie up similar to Shooters would be beneficial as there are not too many places that you are able to take a boat to if you are in the city.

From walking around this morning.

Pics from yesterday ... some brick work starting to appear (pic #3).

Everything was going so well until that last photo. Bleh.

But the apartment building is looking good. Though not tall it's a LOT more impressive size wise than I was expecting. It's a pretty huge building.

What's that last picture showing? Is that the Flipside building on the corner of W 10th and Front? Is it going to be one or two floors?

Yes, that's Flipside. I believe it's only one floor.

Is there a phase 3 for the flats? I remember seeing skyscraper in one of the old renderings. Taller than the Ernst and Young building at that.

^what exactly is this height fetish you have all about? :?

I'm insatiable. The higher,  the better. The more, the better.

^what exactly is this height fetish you have all about? :?

Size really does matter

I like density more than anything, but it has to be at least  3 preferably 4 stories outside of downtown. Also the heights have to vary uniform heights look weird to me. I've heard though people (not all) base the amount of skyscrapers in your city to its rate of success. The more you have the faster it's growing and succeeding. It's just something I've heard in the past.

That apartment complex is going to be huge! I can't wait to see the action when it's completed! Does anyone know if the complex will have a pool?

Also this. Which from what I can tell from the site plan could be building 8B which is a free standing 5500sq ft structure, located on the river across from the apartment bldg. GLSD/Geis is the architect.

ZACK BRUELL RESTAURANT NEW CONSTRUCTION

Downtown/Flats Case #  DF 2015-002

Address: 1056 Old River Road

Company: GLSD Architects

Architect: GLSD Architects / Geis Construction

Date: January 12, 2015

^Wait a sec...did we already know Bruell was opening something in FEB?  I don't remember hearing that (but there's a lot of resto news these days).

Also, I'm gonna hope "Bear Head" is code for Fat Head.  I don't know anything about their food, but the beer selection there would be enough to get me to FEB.

i doubt its fat heads.  They would probably just call it fat heads considering their brand is already so strong and there is name recognition.  Beer head sounds like someone trying to piggyback on the craft beer trend, much like World of Beers.  Ill wait to hear the details, but not overly excited based on the name

I feel a little nervous about the success of FEB.  With all the talk about nuCLEus (which may or may not happen), and the 9, I feel that in the past 6 months, FEB has kind of taken a back seat.  There are several restaurants going in down there, almost too many, and if nuCLEus comes to fruition, I worry for this project.  Hopefully since it will be completed much sooner, FEB will give itself a lasting "brand" early on.

The earliest that anybody will be dining out at nuCLEus will probably be 2017, so they have a head start

The river gives FEB a brand no other downtown development can offer. It's got boats, trains, transit, bridges and a kinetic scene that cannot be matched anywhere else in the Great Lakes. Even Chicago and Toronto lack the soaring bridges or such large ships inching past.

Not too thrilled about the design for this new structure:

More pictures here.

How wonderfully bland.

Oof, yeah, the architecture leaves a bit to be desired.  That said, I think it's great that there will be a much stronger connection between the interior dining area and boardwalk with this plan than what was shown in the earlier plans (which had a much larger landscaped buffer and outdoor seating area between boardwalk and building).  Should help ensure there are signs of life on the boardwalk October-April.  Hopefully the river-facing facade of the dining room will have a fold-away window system to really open the space to the outside when weather permits.

Also this looks like an enormous restaurant. Curious what the food theme will be.

CPC slide mentions Seafood

This is interesting, there's been no news on Zack Bruell opening at FEB so this is a surprise.  Whether you're a fan or not his restaurants are always well run so I'm sure this will be successful. A good draw for his regular clientele for sure and brings some diversity to the dining collection in FEB
