I'm impressed.  That's one of the best development websites I've seen.  It's very comprehensive - from the renderings, to the description of the location and the green building concepts.  It is fitting that the website for FEB is of high quality, since the entire project's design that is being touted as cutting edge.

  • BTW, the reason why I was asking someone this morning about the status of Flats East Bank Phase 3B (the 12-story apartment building) is because Wolstein is getting involved in another big project. Whe

These are REALLY coming along!! I know I’ve said it before, but I just can’t get over how amazing the design, scale/density, boardwalk frontage, windows, multi-level outdoor spaces, etc. all are. Espe

That is a great website for the FEB.  I'm been getting more excited about this development as we know that it is coming to fruition.  In fact, I would love to own a condo there someday.

Mmmm.  I loves me some stock photography!  Nice job, though.

Did anyone see this rendering hiding out on the "project components" page... a little different view than anything we've seen on the office tower thus far.

seriously... can't some graphically inclined person on here take that thing and blow it up without it turning into a huge pixel blob?

There are some differences from the first one but it is too hard to tell anyting from these renderings.

LOL at the Public Square image!!

Is it the future condo tower along the river?

I'm sorry if this has been discussed but, does this project move forward if Eaton doesn't commit and the northern component by the WFL is not included at this time? Also has financing been secured?

Thanks 3231 - this is good news indeed. I guess I asked to see if there were loose ends that could still derail it, but it sounds like all is in place.

I'm seriously looking forward to seeing the construction photos as things progress.

Eaton is far from certain and that may not be a good thing for the city. Wolstein has his ducks in a row. It is nice to hear that a project is being fast-tracked (somewhat). I've also heard some promising things regarding design and open spaces. At least I can gather that some thought is being put into things.

As much as I want to see Eaton stay in downtown I have reservations about their current leanings. Let me be clear before I continue that I truly hope they will stay anywhere in downtown C-land before relocating elsewhere. Eaton seems to be somewhat of a wild card that could effect other downtown projects. Honestly the "corporate campus" is my least favorite component of this. I'm disappointed that Eaton is even considering such an environment for their future HQ; that is to say , anything that can be duplicated outside of downtown.

I don't want to get to far off topic but it seems to me the massing renderings don't offer much more space than what they currently occupy. Is their current HQ 100% Eaton? Are there other tenants in that Superior/12th St building? Another way to ask this question is will Eaton have to much influence, if they're a part of FEB and then need to expand in the future, on the development of the port property once the port relocates (crossing fingers)?

All this is just another way of me saying I would rather see Eaton somewhere else downtown if they're not a necessary component for FEB moving forward.

I'm concerned about the office tower's impact on W. 9th.  All the renderings and site plans show it set back in the block, which isn't a bad thing on its own, but it could be bad if there is no attention paid to the interface with W. 9th.  I'm sure this will be addressed in the design process.

The building isn't on West 9th.  There are actually 2 buildings facing w.9th that will remain.  This building will really front... front street.  I'm sure there would be building access via the garage on Main as well.

Ah, I see.  I knew that the two corner buildings on W. 9th were to remain, but I didn't realize that the large parcel and the middle one that touches W. 9th weren't owned by the same party.  I thought they'd been grouped together for this development.  So, it could stand to reason that the one that touches W. 9th could remain as surface parking...

^Yes... but I would also have to think that whomever owns that surface lot just found themselves in control of one of the more valuable plots of land in the city, and have to imagine at some point they'll want to develop it as they really are part of FEB just by proximity.

I agree.  It's hard to tell who owns it by the name on the Auditor's site, but there are some businesses who operate parking lots and have no desire to build up.  Then again, if someone made them an offer they couldn't refuse...  Fact of the matter is that there are plenty of parking lots to build on the vicinity, so I (personally) wouldn't place that one above any other one, unless it were somehow tied directly to the build out of FEB and the office tower.

For some reason I want to say that Ferchill owns that lot fronting West 9th. I think it was in an article awhile back.

I can't remember if anyone said this already, but it was something new to me, and I wanted to share my observations.

They've fenced off the whole area.  A few weeks ago, one could still walk down there (run-ins with SWAT notwithstanding), but it's all fenced off now.

Plus, there was a CPP truck there yesterday.  Not sure what it was doing.

I would've taken a couple photos, but my phone had other plans.

Ferchill at work

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Some of the projects developer John Ferchill is pursuing in Cleveland:

1100 West 9th St.: $40 million redevelopment that would include a 15-story tower for condominiums. (This is the vacant property on the West side of W. 9th between Main and Front)

Is this not the spot where the office building is going.  Initially a separate development with 2 residential buildings, then added to the Wolstein plan?

^No, the office building is going dead west of the lot between these two buildings.... in the much, much, larger surface lot that takes up most of the block... I believe a crappy strip of grass / weeds and some trees now separate the areas.

Which is the original Fairmount property, where they had "the plan for the two residential buildings that were incorporated" right.....

I didnt remember the separate Ferchill thing..

Which is what I originally thought..  :-)  Although I started to confuse the names here, with Ferchill being thrown in.

First Energy had a small army out there today (Sunday) doing some utility work. From what I could see, it looks like they were removing power lines so that the last buildings along the river could be demolished.

I read this somewhere on cleveland.com, but apparently the last building was destroyed today on the East Bank

Hopefully they'll announce the ground breaking date soon.

I would have to say that ground is broken.  Money is being invested, buildings are being demoed.

Okay, the media-filled ceremony then :-P

No, your first question is accurate, I believe they have broken ground, but it dosen't seem like they are making a big deal out of it.  I am with you, when are they finally going to admit they have broken ground.

MayDay, we thank you and your hair products for those pics.

When all the "suits" have hard hats and shovels in hand, I'll consider it broken.  :-)

Thanks MayDay!  We took the kids down there a couple weeks ago and got some pictures of them standing in the parking lots with all the demo debris in the background.  If they grow up to be urban gurus, I think they will find those pictures of them pretty amazing someday.

They did that like 2 years ago.  :)

There was one of those a couple weeks ago doing demo.  Anything else you would like .

Ironically the press conference took place at Dick's Last Resort.  The irony of that photo.  Dicks and everything else around it is gone!

mayday the parking lot with "closed" on it:

wow! wow! wow!

you made my day with that one -- thx.

The crooked river building is down. wow that was fast!  It must have gone down yesterday, the only day I did not pass it.

They demolished it from the inside out, starting on Fall St., then working through.
