July 25, 201113 yr Pregunta: Looking at the Flats East Bank website (http://www.flatseast.com/flats-cleveland/index.htm), I'm a tad confused which images are applicable to the first phase. I'm just trying to figure out what this bad boy is going to look like in 2 years, but the site kind of commingles the images of the different phases, so it's hard to visualize it.
July 25, 201113 yr ^I believe everything shown in the one comprehensive site plan is part of the current phase, now? Image 13 in http://www.flatseast.com/image-gallery/index.htm
July 25, 201113 yr The structure being framed right now.... that is the 'connector' between the hotel and office, correct? If so, glad to see that the office building is really going to be wedged against that retainer wall.... although I suppose that will detract some from its perceived (not actual) height. But I further suppose that may allow for a bit more height as well because the retainer wall might bear some of the stress/weight?
July 25, 201113 yr ^I think the taller structure is just the building core (elevator shafts, stairwells, mechanical, etc...). It looks like the concrete pad encompasses the length and width of the office tower. The renderings don't show it flush with the eastern retaining wall. In other words, the area that you see poured makes up the footprint of the office building only. The hotel will be on the corner of W10th and Main Ave.

July 28, 201113 yr I'll post pics later; by happy accident I was running late to work. Ended up seeing the base of the tower crane on a truck coming off the Shoreway, south on West 3rd and west onto Lakeside :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
July 28, 201113 yr Author How did you know the route? Were you running after it? ;-) "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
July 28, 201113 yr I'll post pics later; by happy accident I was running late to work. Ended up seeing the base of the tower crane on a truck coming off the Shoreway, south on West 3rd and west onto Lakeside :-) What color was it? The very extremely nerdy side of me is hoping for a yellow one. I am sick of the blue ones we see in UC. Thanks for the update MayDay. Can't wait to see it flying!
July 28, 201113 yr Alright, time for some photos. As I said - I was fuming because some knucklehead decided that the AM rush hour was a great time to route hundreds of racing cyclists (dear god, we can't ask a single one of them to stop at a redlight - they might not shave a few seconds off their time!!! ), and of course the morning monsoon didn't help matters. So as I'm sitting at the light at West 3rd and Lakeside, I saw it - and figured, if I'm going to be late - at least I saw the crane arrive :-) Since I had pole position, I got to follow it along Lakeside at about 1mph until I had to zip onto the Shoreway. Pardon the atrocious quality - cell phone camera and monsoon: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
July 29, 201113 yr i came across this image of the main ave swing bridge and thought wouldnt it be great if this were rebuilt for connectivity for the east and west banks as a pedestrian bridge only. http://images.ulib.csuohio.edu/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/urbanohio&CISOPTR=620&CISOBOX=1&REC=20
July 29, 201113 yr I was thinking the same thing...Whiskey Island and Flats West need to be connected to Flats East by a pedestrian/biking bridge. I know one is already planned for Whiskey Island, but both areas area way underserved for pedestrians.
July 29, 201113 yr ^^Thanks MayDay! Looks like the crane that was at the Pinnacle. You getting down there anytime soon for a photo of it (I guess I'm cracking the wip)?

I know one is already planned for Whiskey Island, but both areas area way underserved for pedestrians. Or by water taxi/ferry service. There used to be a water taxi between the two sides of the flats when there were two sides..... but to be effective, service must be very cheap and frequent....

July 29, 201113 yr Tell me about it...literally! Ironically, that was the one day I didn't bike to work this week, making my trek via car a real pain and take even longer than via bike. First, if you have a huge bike event for charity, at least have the courtesy to tell the local radio stations so we can re-route accordingly. Second, if you actually TELL the local media what the event is, it's FREE PUBLICITY. So instead of leaving stupid WTAM and the like wondering if it's Critical Mass?! they can actually be plugging YOUR charity. Alright, time for some photos. July 29, 201113 yr Author Holy Moses Water Taxi. Cost $2 each way. And serves Holy Moses? For a moment I had no idea what you're talking about. But then I quit drinking eight years ago. No, they didn't serve any kind of drink on board -- you BEER FREAK!!! :drunk: BTW........ July 30, 201113 yr "^^Thanks MayDay! Looks like the crane that was at the Pinnacle. You getting down there anytime soon for a photo of it (I guess I'm cracking the wip)?" Ohhh, I don't know - I mean, what's that website I have that needs updating? You know, the one that ended up landing me a book deal and having one of my photos broadcasted to 50 million viewers in 170 different countries? Something about "skyscrapers"?!? ;-) Yes, I will be making frequent pilgrimages to get photos of the construction - it's not a huge building but it's been too damn long! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

Right, I remember it. The one I used to check into constantly to get updates on Clevelands dt construction nearly daily back in 01 and 02. The site that lead me here. And you are right. It has been too too long. Since I have been active on this site, this is the biggest thing to hit Cleveland. I am sure that is open to debate. However, as far as visibility to the rest of the people in the metro region, I would say it is. Especially southsiders and westsiders. I look forward to your updates. Thanks MayDay!
July 30, 201113 yr As promised :-) Sorry I didn't get a shot from the eastern side of the site - the street was blocked by a utility company doing work. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
July 30, 201113 yr Thanks MayDay! So, this is presently just the office tower going up, and not the hotel, correct?
July 30, 201113 yr I believe so - what we're seeing "dead on" is the floating pad for the office tower - the hotel would be to the left where the white mobile crane is (or thereabouts). clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 1, 201113 yr Not positive about this, but I believe the red tower crane was headed to the MM/CC, not FEB

August 1, 201113 yr ^Yep, as I mentioned, the truck came up (south) on West 3rd, made a right onto Lakeside and then proceeded to West 9th. Also, there are currently no tower cranes onsite at the MM/CC. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 7, 201113 yr Not sure how long it's been there, but this crane was a nice surprise to see: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 7, 201113 yr Almost forgot to post this shot - one of those times where it's NICE to see a view being blocked! :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 7, 201113 yr That crane was just being set up (but still down) on Friday and then it was actually up on Saturday. They are really trucking along with that project.
August 8, 201113 yr The yellow crane from ALL is enormous. It's fully erected today and visible from at least a mile away.
August 8, 201113 yr The yellow crane from ALL is enormous. It's fully erected today and visible from at least a mile away. Saw it as well this morning from my place and it looks great.
August 8, 201113 yr Assembly of the tower crane is proceeding smartly. It's well above the elevation of the Main Avenue Bridge at this point.
August 8, 201113 yr Assembly of the tower crane is proceeding smartly. It's well above the elevation of the Main Avenue Bridge at this point. Well thank God it's proceeding smartly. If not, it would be on the Main Avenue Bridge! Hopefully we'll have some pics soon.
August 8, 201113 yr From where I'm sitting now, the yellow crane no longer rises above the bridge but the red crane is well above. I'm assuming this is because as someone said before, the yellow crane is to build the main red crane? Although it does not appear as if the red crane is finished being built yet.
August 9, 201113 yr ^You're right - the tower crane's shaft might be as tall as its going to get, but they still need to add the operator cab, jibs, counterweights, etc. Anyway, it's visible from the Interbelt bridge, the Shoreway near Edgewater, etc. Here are some ghastly cellphone camera shots from today: On the far left, poking above the chain link fence: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 9, 201113 yr whats that boxed up structure going to be? the aloft hotel or the office building?
August 9, 201113 yr ^That's the base of the office tower, likely the start of the elevator core. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 9, 201113 yr Love the pics!!! I was able to see it from the Interbelt Bridge on my way into work today. Its been a while since we've seen a tower crane here in Cleveland!!! It's a nice sight to see.
August 9, 201113 yr Here is one from Prospect. Pretty cool to see sticking up. I haven't seen any renderings showing the new buildings from other areas. I can't imagine you'll be able to see much of it from this viewpoint, although would be cool if you could.
August 9, 201113 yr I can't imagine you'll be able to see much of it from this viewpoint, although would be cool if you could. Is the crane currently taller than the building will be when finished? If not, then you should be able to see a lot of the building from that vantage point.
August 9, 201113 yr ^yeah i was thinking the same thing...if you can see the crane from this vantage point, why would you not be able to see at least a portion of the building?
August 10, 201113 yr Saw the operator's cab being put into place this morning. Unless they're planning to jump the crane later on, it may be as tall as it's going to get. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
