  • BTW, the reason why I was asking someone this morning about the status of Flats East Bank Phase 3B (the 12-story apartment building) is because Wolstein is getting involved in another big project. Whe

These are REALLY coming along!! I know I’ve said it before, but I just can’t get over how amazing the design, scale/density, boardwalk frontage, windows, multi-level outdoor spaces, etc. all are. Espe

Wow! That looks AMAZING! This building is really going to be AMAzing! Does anyone know if they are planning on building a second midrise building in the flats? I remember there was a rendering that came out late last year? That had a picture of a building with 21-23 floors near the river?

yeah i hope that one is built too. its for a future phase. i dont think phase II, but i could be mistaken because phase II is a big spread of residential.

someone will know or you could scroll back on this thread and probably find out more info or at least the renders.

Definitely not phase 2 unfortunately.

Thanks!

That first picture makes me imagine what the city could look like, if the port facilities were moved.

The second picture shows a near perfect angle of it filling in the skyline.

I took some pictures today too. Only can post one right now though. I have to find the other one.

And damn, shooters makes me want an awesome boardwalk even more!

yeah that or seriously bulked up. as it is it just looks like a wasteful eyesore on prime real estate.

Even without a lakefront development a tree lines boardwalk would be a significant improvement... then again, we don't build cities to look good in pictures from the lake.

^Nice

Thanks Burnham, it's nice to have you around!

On second view of the picture I added it made me think that a future Lakefront plan (sorry, wrong board) should consider planting trees along the boardwalk to create the look of a forest, similar to what Alexis de Tocqueville saw when he arrived (leading to our nickname: the Forest City")

"In his travel diary, Journey to America (1831-32), de Tocqueville describes his visit to Cleveland, then a town of about 1,500 people. His party approached Cleveland by boat on Lake Erie on 21 July 1831 at 6pm. He refers to the area as "generally quite flat and sometimes a few feet high, seems almost everywhere covered in primeval forest whose immense trees were reflected in the waters that bathed their roots." He explains that the scenery gives the impression that there is nothing but thick forest, but that "one suddenly sees a church tower, elegant houses, fine villages, with an appearance of wealth and industry," and that "one goes without transition from the wilds into a city street, from the most savage scenes to the most smiling pictures of civilized life."

^Maybe if we still had our natural coastline, that would be a good idea.  But considering that we have bastardized it with dredged land, boxy fingerdocks, hulking monstrosities, railroad tracks, and a highway....  I don't know how much of an authentic au-naturale look it could pass off.

Right. To "re-naturalize" the coastline I'm betting the costs would be astronomical.

I'm pretty sure that even in the most ambitious lakefront plans it hasn't been listed as an option. Which is too bad. I'd like to learn more about the possibilities.

p.s. Hts you forgot "slabs of broken concrete" to your list

I like that!  Let's do it.

Some pictures taken from the Waterfront line today!  It was a unique perspective, and as far as I have gathered, the Waterfront line will be brought back into full operation once Flats East Bank opens, right??

Correct. That's what RTA has proposed.

Nice pics. Some cool vantage points of FEB.

Awesome, thanks for the pictures. This development has to have some sort of positive effect on old river road.

Ugh, this pic really bothers me to no end. Not the photography- excellent pic btw. It's the architectural design that's bad. They stole a page from the lousy K&D playbook. Fronting the sidewalk with a concrete bunker is not attractive. Nor is it conducive to a walkable neighborhood.

There was a tremendous opportunity to improve street life on Main St. along side the building. They dropped the ball big time. Maybe this is correctable? I hope so. We're so busy appreciating the upper floors but it's the ground floor we should be paying most attention to.

They sacrificed the street life along the sloping Main Ave for street life along level West 10th. I don't have a problem with that too much.

BTW, go to Googlemaps and look at FEB from satellite view. See what they call FEB? Lighthouse Landing! Anyone remember that project? Very similar to FEB except that it was a couple of 20-something-story residential towers.

I do remember, and I think you posted the renderings.  They were moreso sketches if I rememebr correctly.  Looked like a sweet project...or paper project.

The hotel should start going vertical soon

Would love to have a view like that outside my office. Just amazing, looking out onto the water like that.

I'm guessing that view is from a parking garage at Metro?

Was up on the 13th floor (level 16 from the ground) of the Ernst & Young tower yesterday.  Views are great from every angle -

North

Great unobstructed view of Lake Erie

West

The flats & lighted bridges (which by the way are going out to RFP to get all the lights turned back on)

Southeast

Downtown skyline, Burke, Browns stadium

The final height should be right about 325 feet by the way (from the base ground level - there's a 38 foot difference in grade.)

Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

I particularly like these views:

Here are a few from last night.  You can see the roadway reconstruction near the water underway, as well as some sort of large concrete structure being formed, maybe a fountain or terraced planting area?  I haven't seen good drawings of how this building will actually interact with the street.

A point which I find nerve racking lol. The new building's lack of interaction with Main St. is a cause for concern.

Some pics I took while out on my bike about a week ago:

And some more from today.

Thanks! Its looking really good IMO

I love the first two shots posted on the 12th. I dislike the last one from the 15th -- mainly because of the "hole" in the foreground......

Coming along quite nicely... sure hope Wolstein can secure financing for Phase II, FEB really needs this to fill out the current footprint so we can move forward with other riverfront/lakefront development...

yeah i hope they get financing together for the next phase too. most of the abandoned or delayed projects here in ny are being revived lately, although they are having to use creative consortiums of investors, but hopefully thats a good sign that banks and investors are more willing as long as the risk is spread around.

You mean this one?

I actually love this shot

Folks, posts have been removed - while we would all love to see the surface lots close to Public Square developed, that's not a discussion for this thread. The developers of Flats East Bank don't own those lots, don't have a say as to how/when they get developed, and so, there's no point (other than venting an off-topic sentiment that we all share) to say "I wish this was being built ______ instead of where it is".

Ummmm....380,000 workers????? Where did they get that number?

It says "now leasing phase 2".  Is that new?  Also, are these apartments or Condo's?

Ummmm....380,000 workers????? Where did they get that number?

Well, they didn't say which downtown....

This website just seems off.  Saying now leasing phase two with no information on phase two and then 380,000 downtown workers. Gotribe: Those will be apartments but I've never seen anything prelease even before floor plans are released.

thats the best rendering that shows how it will interact with main.

And 380,000 works? Thats more like the city population!

Has there been any national retailers that have agreed to sign on to phase 1 at least let alone phase 2?
