Posted August 9, 200618 yr A Cincinnati twist A young couple created Space513.com, a site that gives an overview of the city in a quirky cartoon-like imagery BY VAL PREVISH | ENQUIRER CONTRIBUTOR Frustrated by what they saw as Cincinnati's wrongful image as an old-fashioned and out-of-touch Midwestern city, a young couple from Mount Lookout decided to update the city's look, at least on the Internet. Davis and Cindy Stanard, married five years and also partners in their own design business based in Mount Washington called Stanard Design, said the Cincinnati they knew was unique, fun and diversified. August 9, 200618 yr This is a very cool site, however it is not the first of its kind (http://www.unscene.com/ )...you have to click on Cincinnati on the map. I would definately recommend checking both of these sites out! Great positive vibes!
August 9, 200618 yr Great find. Thanks. :] They even have Pleasant Ridge Chili on here!!! Awesome. Their gravy and cheese fries are the s#$@.
August 9, 200618 yr Awesome site but they might want to take Simone's off the list. ;) I would like to know how they made the site, it has some great detail. By looking at the map you can see how lopsided the entertainment & restaurant options are between the east & west side. Northside is definitely the westside's best business district.
August 9, 200618 yr Great site...a little confused on the location of some stuff (not sure when UC moved north of Burnet Woods!), but very cool, inviting, easy to navigate, and the music doesn't drive you buggy! Well done!
August 9, 200618 yr The music certainly doesn't say "vibrant" or "exciting" city. Bad choice if the target market is younger. unscene, on the other hand, isn't bad at all.
August 9, 200618 yr Very neat site! I think this is a perfect example of the creative class at work...you would never get something like this from "the suits" sitting in their corporate suites. Oh, and I love the cicada...lol
August 10, 200618 yr Ha, funny when I checked it earlier today I had my volume down so I didn't know there was music. I prefer it with no music at all. Music is too polarizing to the masses, by not having music the viewer doesn't form an opinion so quick.
August 10, 200618 yr I really like that site... speaking, of course, from the perspective of a map fan. Some of my map fan friends would beat me up for supporting a cartoonish map, but so be it- bruises build character! The site has a lot of information presented with a friendly and fun look, and it's easy to access "real" maps, either with the links to Google maps or with the maps on the site of individual neighborhoods you can get by clicking the flashing target things. I'm not at all a fan of music or sound on websites, though. Like Monte, I didn't have my sound on when I first looked, so I didn't notice it.
February 21, 200718 yr I was on www.unscene.com last night and noticed that they have added some things for Cincinnati. I was pretty pumped, but I sent them an email suggesting that they add the future Mixx Ultralounge (a sushi restaurant and champagne/cognac lounge). This is the new place being opened at the old Jump Cafe location in OTR, being created by the same owners as Vinyl.
February 22, 200718 yr Pretty sparse for downtown Cincinnati. And what the heck happened to 5th street between Vine and Walnut?
February 24, 200718 yr ^True, but to be in the company of: NYC, San Diego, Seattle, Chicago, etc is pretty nice...I just glad we're included. But at the same time, I think we offer more than what they have listed...that is why I suggested another place. They seemed VERY open/appreciative of the suggestion. So if you have another place in mind...shoot them an email and let 'em know.
