We have a housing shortage and these companies and people are just using this crap for short term rentals. I hate them and these ugly boxes especially. "...Is there anything you need?..." Well yes, there is. I need you to operate out of buildings that are not architectural crap, and basically, to not operate at all. Please get stuffed(and the wine sucked). Also congratulations on your oh-so-welcoming lack of landscaping. These units can best be described as "charmfree".

It isn't bougie - it's cheap. All the finishes feel like they're about ready to fall apart, the stairs are insanely steep and have 15-20 steps each flight. The balconies on the roof have terrible views and face cheap vinyl siding and the floorplans make no sense.

April 21, 20232 yr Work Starting on Near East Side Community Center Fencing is up around the former Martin Luther King Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library at 1600 E. Long St. The building, which has been empty since the branch moved into a new, larger space two blocks down the street, will hold a new health-focused community center. Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center is heading up the project – to be called the Healthy Community Center – and funding the renovation. April 27, 20232 yr This actually turned out to be a pretty nice looking little infill project. Near East Side apartments will welcome residents this summer “New apartments on the Near East Side will welcome residents in June. The Savrielle features all one-bedrooms, in Woodland Park. The apartments stand where the East Side Dry Cleaners used to be located. The 27-unit building is the first new build project Aaron McDaniel, of Blueprint Development Co., has done. After rehabbing homes and multifamily units across the Near East Side in Bronzeville and Olde Towne East, this is the developer's largest project to date. CF Bank is the primary lender for the project and the Affordable Housing Trust is the secondary lender. McDaniel participated in the first round of the Emerging Developers Accelerator Program this past summer.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/27/near-east-side-apartments-will-welcome-residents-t.html
April 28, 20232 yr Second phase of the Shiloh Baptist apartments on Hamilton is going up pretty quickly now. And work has finally started on the Bronzeville apartments on Taylor.

The fourth floor gives access to a rooftop patio-which would be cool in the right context. SMH.

May 11, 20232 yr Glad I wasn't the only one thinking it. That Linwood build is a monstrosity. The house in the picture below it is also a little odd. I think it's windows on the second floor.

Why the hell was that needed?? It looks like it would have space behind it for a garage. edit: I take it back, it looks really bad on maps Edited May 11, 20232 yr by VintageLife

But it's also bad that there are no windows on the side. It's like it was built to be a rowhouse and all the other ones connected to it were torn down.

And those homes next to it were in bad shape per google maps streetview with just a grassy lot between them. They look to be nicely restored...and then this thing appears. The Stairs! so heavy and massive. I wonder if they have a red carpet and rose petals to scatter when they enter or leave that way?
May 11, 20232 yr The worst thing about it is the overall shoddy design and construction Initially the front stairs were even built incorrectly (too steep per code), and had to be torn out and redone. This is why the slope of the brick at the sides doesn't match the slope of the stairs themseleves. Altogether a complete horror show and I hope whoever built this retires or moves to Nashville so we don't get inflicted with any more of these

May 12, 20232 yr Historic Henderson House to be Spared From Demolition The center released a statement today saying that it is “committed to saving the house from demolition and will continue to work closely with the community on next steps.” The news comes about four months after OSU presented a plan to the neighborhoodto build a new, 80-bed rehabilitation hospital where the building now stands. “Ohio State heard us. They are with us at the table, and not just about this concern over the new hospital and the house,” said Julialynne Walker, JD, chair of the Near East Side advisory committee and chair of the Franklin Park Civic Association. “I’m encouraged by this process of building a partnership that will work on the mutually important matters for our community.”

May 18, 20232 yr Anyone want to combine money and and buy this so that it won’t have a curb cut? It’s located at 35 Parsons and is gutted on the inside with approved plans for renovation and a curb cut. Such a stupid idea for a street that is rapidly growing. Hopefully a developer buys it and demos the current building and proposes something worthy. @columbus17 tell some developer you know, that they need to get this property so it’s done right! Of course, a better solution would be to replace this building as you said.
May 22, 20232 yr Columbus developer Metropolitan Holdings growing into other parts of Ohio, eyes end of year finish for Near East Side project “The 122-unit Triumph will finish at the end of this year, McCabe said. Metropolitan Holdings also is building a three-story development with about 3,000 square feet of commercial space and 72 apartments at 795 E. Long St., called the Ogden. The mixed-use development is scheduled to wrap up in the beginning of 2024. Creole Kitchen will move into the ground floor retail next year.
