Cincinnati: Riverfront plus Kentucky's Best Attraction (The View)

Featured Replies

Posted

After getting back from vacation and now having to leave again to Washington DC on business I wanted to take the family downtown to enjoy the beautiful weather.  We spent the day at Yeatman's Cove and Newport on the Levee at the Seafood Festival and finished the evening with a Omnimax movie at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Here are some of the photos I took:

The Best Attraction of Kentucky - The View of Cincinnati's Skyline

Last but certainly not least...

What is wrong with this city??  A great day yesterday and nobody, I mean nobody, is outside??  What is wrong with people!!??  Just look at those pics!!!

I was outside!  Haven't posted my Carew Tower shots yet, but maybe later.

Monte, very nice.  Gorgeous day, great pictures...

Is that water feature the one by Adam's Place?

Looks like a lovely day!  And beautiful views, of course.

It is at Yeatman's Cove right below One Lytle Place.

There were people outside throughout the city.  Seaford Festival had a good crowd, the Midwest Latino Fest had a decent crowd on the Freedom Center lawn and Scribble Jam was going on at Annie's and it was packed as usual.  Unfortunately Yeatman's Cove was quit which is noteworthy and a reminder that outside of festivals, suburbanites don't come downtown to enjoy the day.

"Unfortunately Yeatman's Cove was quit which is noteworthy and a reminder that outside of festivals, suburbanites don't come downtown to enjoy the day."

Or the citizens of Cincinnati!!  With over 300,000 people in this city there are plenty of people to fill the parks outside of those festivals you mentioned; if they want too......unfortunatly the people of this city don't enjoy outside activities!!!

^ There is more than one park in the city.  Mt. Storm, Mt. Airy, Burnet Woods, Alm's, Ault & Eden Park are all usually filled with people.  Just because a riverfront park isn't filled with people doesn't hold too much weight but like I said it was noteworthy.

so extreme.  i seriously doubt that cincinnati is in this weird bubble where people there dont like outsude activity, they dont like nightlife, and urban lovers are virtually non-existant.  such a strange attitude to have towards cincy in my opinion.

If you want to go to cities were you won't see any people outside around the downtown in the summer just go to Houston, Dallas & Tampa.  Their downtowns are horrid and dead.

byrnepj, you're crazy. How often do you actually ever go to the riverfront?

Monte, beautiful and colorful shots! ... (as always) ;)

Love the Yeatman Cove photos.

As for the park system....Cincy essentially has a park system built for 400-500,000.  Therefore, you will have times that they might seem underused, but I have never heard anyone before claim that the Cincinnati Park System is underused by its citizens...considered to be one of the best park systems around!

HAHA, I'm in the old thread bumping mood.  But I keep finding cool old photos...

I thought this might be a good shot to Photoshop QCS into....I'll tool around with it next week on campus, but I'm curious if it'll fit.

Yeah, I really have no clue what you're talking about.

The fact that he can't spell Cincinnatus right is telling.

^That may only be because the correct spelling is already taken.

Faceoff:  Cincinnatus vs. Cinncinnatus

Yeah, I really have no clue what you're talking about.

They're referring to your lack of context.  Your point is clear about planning and urban design not being what it is in Europe...I'm not sure anyone would argue that fact.

This thread is about the photos posted above, and not your random/out of left field criticisms of planning in Cincinnati and the United States as a whole.

Yeah, I really have no clue what you're talking about.

Try go trolling on urban Czechoslovakia...

The fact that he can't spell Cincinnatus right is telling.

Oh, got my months mixed up, haha sorry.

Try go trolling on urban Czechoslovakia...

I can't tell if that is a joke since you didn't use a emoticon.  Czechoslovakia doesn't exist, it was separated back into the two countries of the Czech Republic & Slovakia.  The Czech Republic is home to Prague which is one of the coolest cities in the world.

have a nice day ..

.. friends sorry if you find some mistakes in my english ... I speek 3 languages .. but only one without any mistakes ..  lol lol lol  :-D :-D :-D :-D

Cinncinnatus  WHAT COUNTRY IN EUROPE ARE YOU FROM??

Cinncinnatus, glad you found this forum and I'm glad you think the city is beautiful, but don't come to UrbanOhio expecting to trash the city and not expect shit from other members without offering constructive criticism or actions on your part to local officials who control the problems you might see.

Cincinnati government is doing a tremendous job and we have seen development into the billions with planned development, development under construction, or development recently finished during their term. We have also seen positive changes with crime rates and population gains.

You trying to compare Europe (not European) to the US (RE: history, architecture, etc) is like me trying to compare Cincinnati to New York City, it's ridiculous.

Cincinnati government is doing a tremendous job

.. do you believe this .. really ?? ..

.. sorry .. you have to read the Cincinnati Enquirer ..

I presented ways in which I thought they were, how about you tell me how they are not?

Cinncinnatus, the broken English is understandable but I am surprised you keep using European over Europe to represent the continent.  Anyway I have been to Germany 4 times, great country and the people were very friendly.

You still haven't told us what city you are from in Germany?

Anyway if you are looking for the European experience in the US, the closest thing we have is Boston.  New York is our largest city but for walkable pedestrian friendly cities, New York, Chicago, Boston & San Francisco can all hold their own.  We don't have many "walkplatz" in the US.  Anyway, what brings you from Germany to Cincinnati?

Also are you aware that Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is this weekend?  You can usually find Erdinger, Spaten & Warsteiner biergartens there.  I recommend you visit the Schmidt's booth for some fantastic Brats.  The Helmut's booth makes some of the best strudel & pretzels you will find in America.

.. sorry about this ..

You still haven't told us what city you are from in Germany?

.. Frankfurt am Main .. HQ fore PG .. lol

Boston.  New York

.. yes and I know .. Seattle, Las vegas, Utah, Arizona, and and and

Also are you aware that Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is this weekend?

.. yes .. I will be there ... with my camera ..  if you want , if you have time  .. I can invite  you  for a dinner .. lol

I have been to Germany 4 times, great country and the people were very friendly.

... I sawe your pictures from Germany ...

and the ICE #2 in Köln Hauptbahnhof .. lol

.. you ever used this train ? speed over 200 miles per hours !!!!!!!!! absolut perfect ....

LOL, so you are the one that posted those comments in my galleries.

No I did not ride on the Köln Hauptbahnhof but I have been on the Eurail from Amsterdam to Brussels and Paris to Brussels.  The route from Paris to Brussels went around 200 KPH.  Sadly our country chooses to invest in roads and automobiles instead of high speed rail.

So are you living in Cincinnati now or just visiting on business.  If so are you living Downtown or in the suburbs?

I am sure you are aware of our Hofbrauhaus in Newport but I find the Schmidthaus in Columbus to be a great alternative plus they have Paulaner Hefeweizen on draft (Entwurf?).

While I agree, I have been to the Hofbräuhaus in München and the Dunkel at Hofbräuhaus in Newport is pretty close to authentic German beer.  From my understanding the pasteurization of our beers kills the flavor.
