August 24, 20168 yr Red Canyon caught me totally off guard when I was out west back in May. Totally unexpected. But really everything in southern Utah is unexpected. The stretch of I-15 along the Virgin River through Arizona is spectacular, yet another thing I had no idea existed. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

September 16, 20168 yr New York's infamous electronics dealer "Crazy Eddie" Antar dies. His commercials, starring spokesperson Jerry Carroll, were ubiquitous (as were the stores), forever embedded in the minds of anyone who had the misfortune of seeing even one of them :-) http://www.city-journal.org/html/his-life-was-insane-14743.html http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/

December 14, 20168 yr This video is so, so good. If you check out Comcast's Twitter mentions today it is an explosion of people sending them this video.
December 15, 20168 yr Author I think one of the biggest American traditions is talking smack about your local ISP / Cable provider. Everyone has strong feelings about Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T U-Verse, Verizon FIOS, you name it. Whatever is available in their area, they have a rant for you, about their poor customer service.
December 15, 20168 yr Yeah I think that's the result of most people only having one choice. I still can't get over that video. It's like 4 minutes of: RANDOM GUY: "You can't park there! You're going to cause a crash!" COMCAST GUY: "We put up cones, it's fine!" * Catches car crash on film * RANDOM GUY: "See? You guys are causing accidents!" COMCAST GUY: "No we're not!" * Catches another car crash on film * ... repeat like 5 more times ... And the Comcast workers gave zero $%$&s!
December 15, 20168 yr Comcast really is the worst. Like, the worst. Time Warner is like the (current) German economy compared to them. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 15, 20168 yr It looks like that black truck was pissed off about the slow traffic so hit the gas up to the top of the hill. What would driverless cars do in this situation? Oh yeah, just shut down and sit there. No steering wheel or pedals, so you're just stuck in a pod.

February 16, 20178 yr Author Lol... This made me laugh. I'm actually a huge fan of Maxwell (and 90s R&B in general) and after listening to Maxwell's Ascension, on Youtube - I ended up coming across this from the right sidebar. The video went viral and apparently Maxwell saw it and invited him to sing on stage with him at one of his shows. If I could sing like that, I guarantee you I wouldn't be working at Dollar General!
February 20, 20178 yr Author ^Wow... You could have warned us first. We can't un-see that. Lol. If you need something to entertain you, check out Jimmy Fallon's 'Wheel of Musical Impressions' skits. They're hilarious! This is my favorite one. I swear, Jamie Foxx has to be the most talented person alive and one of the most talented entertainers of all time. He's a triple threat. Musician, Actor, Comedian... He probably has a million other talents but his impression of John Legend literally made me laugh so hard it gave me abdominal pain! The one of Mick Jagger was great too. Speaking of musical impressions, this is one of the best SNL skits ever made. I had no idea Ariana Grande could do that. I don't even listen to much of the current music out right now so I knew little about her but was kinda blown away by her ability to impersonate so many artists, especially some of the greatest ones. She isn't even lip-syncing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7uBph38kXo

April 12, 20178 yr Author Their site has changed since then. It seems like the old one was actually better. John Schnatter or whatever his name is, has a really nice house. He's extremely wealthy and doesn't apologize for it.
April 12, 20178 yr Author Warning - some foul language. This should make people think twice about their petty road rage. Motorcycle passes car despite double yellow lines and the car swerves and knocks him and his wife/girlfriend off the road on purpose. In part 2, the guy with the camera goes up to the guy who swerved and asked him what he was doing and pointed out he swerved and hit them on purpose and the guy goes, "I don't care." He ended up getting 15 years in prison for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
April 22, 20178 yr a while ago, before the last server crash i think, i had a thread about our friend's loft apt and renovations in tribeca. anyway, they rented out the apt to be used in a wendy's commercial: here is a photo from 'on the set'
April 22, 20178 yr Author a while ago, before the last server crash i think, i had a thread about our friend's loft apt and renovations in tribeca. anyway, they rented out the apt to be used in a wendy's commercial: here is a photo from 'on the set' I vaguely remember it. Was it the thread where you were talking about how (however many millions of dollars - I think $3.2M) could land you a small loft in TriBeca? The thread title as something like that I think. ...And I think it wasn't even that great of a loft; it was a pretty basic and small living area. That was so long ago though, maybe I got it confused with something else. I seem to remember a picture of a small, square shaped unit that seemed to be 600 sq. ft. at the most, with light-colored hardwood floors and those brick walls. There were two windows in said picture I think, that were straight ahead. That one? I definitely remember how I couldn't believe the ridiculous price per sq. ft for such a basic and small place in TriBeCa! Is the RE market in NYC like it was? Are prices still skyrocketing in Manhattan with no end in sight and a lot of spillage into nearby Brooklyn? I haven't really kept tabs on it much since the Great Recession but I seem to recall someone stating that due to so much foreign investment, it was still skyrocketing, well after the recession hit. Ah, right before the recession.. that was the golden age of Urban Planning and UrbanOhio for that matter. That was an epic and interesting thread. There was a lot of cool insight from forumers. Jake had a lot of mind-blowing info in the thread about what was happening in NYC.
April 22, 20178 yr Author Why did they choose that loft in Tribeca? Do you know? Wendy's is a Columbus-based company and there's plenty of units the Short North and elsewhere in Columbus where they could have achieved the same effect, but could rent the unit for a significantly cheaper price. Maybe they have a NYC-based firm handle their video production-related marketing and advertising?
April 24, 20178 yr ^ They're likely using an advertising/marketing firm, like gyro, for instance to handle things like this.
April 24, 20178 yr ^ yes, this is the ad firm: http://weebeastie.tv/ basically, as hollywood is known for movies, nyc has always been about advertising & commercials. i know somebody in the bronx who had something shot at their place too.
April 24, 20178 yr Author I know that, It's just that in this day and age, NYC seems like it should be irrelevant for the fields of marketing and advertising to most of the nation. NYC tends to have the best of the best in almost every field (but lets be honest - a monkey could get a marketing degree and millions of nerds all over the U.S. have fantastic video editing skills; you just look up a couple tutorials) and that commercial isn't even remarkable, impressive or very creative. Those firms that handle marketing and advertising, exist in every city but the cost of renting a place in Tribeca and paying a marketing firm in NYC where the cost of living is so much higher, doesn't make any sense to me. I'm sure it's chump change and no sweat off their back, but if I was the one calling the shots at Wendy's, I don't think I would go for that. Aside from an inherent desire to network locally and help local businesses, I'm a firm believer in physical distance still being relevant. If you're in charge of overseeing these marketing/ad projects, I imagine it makes it easier to not only build rapport but truly be involved in it when said firms are physically nearby.
April 24, 20178 yr ^ david while i agree with you of course, you have to remember this national advertising business is a life blood of nyc and they have had a long head start on it (ie., madmen). it all comes down to do you want to go with the long track record in this business or do you want to go with a local yokel startup for your national advertizing? i would bet this is changing and will change a lot though, as media has changed, with so much content online, less print magazines and tv declining and the like. i'm not sure nyc will hold its national commercial ads monopoly for too much longer, for sure it seems like a ripe business opportunity to diversify newer ads with newer formats to more local businesses.
