That approach remains unchanged. When I randomly checked in on the station one weekend in August, the show ran for more than 36 hours uninterrupted from Saturday morning through 3 a.m. on Monday, when it finally went off the air in favor of Catfish: The TV Show.

February 20, 20214 yr Author I'm trying to understand Youtube's algorithm for suggesting videos. They used to be so good at sending me down the rabbit hole. Now it seems designed to steer you away from the rabbit hole. It suggests videos I've already watched when it could be showing me new videos for channels I've subscribed to. It'll also suggest the most random ass videos, like one of an iceberg flipping upside down. There is absolutely no reason for it to suggest anything involving icebergs to me. When you click on those random videos, you see in the comment section from others, "Anyone else get suggested this video for no reason?"
February 20, 20214 yr Yeah the new algo totally sucks. The 2018 algo was where it was at. If you watch one thing that ends up sucking (and even stop partway through and switch to something else) it suggests that thing and similar ones for months and months. Like I clicked on something that I didn't know was pick-up artist crap and made it maybe 4 minutes in. More and more PUA trash for months. I don't log in though. Maybe you get the 2018 algo back if you log in, I don't know. I'd hate to see if I clicked on conspiracy theory barf or Proud Boy rubbish. Used to be I'd click on a '90s motorcycle race and afterward it would suggest all these cool old bike programs from Europe that we never got to see in the States. That's way over.

I wonder how the U.S. would react if Iran had a lab that operated so carelessly the way they do. They're too powerful of a country for us to do anything about it. Imagine if we imposed sanctions on them and in return they sanctioned/embargoed our iPhones that they make. It would be WW3 out here. These scientists really need to chill out. For God's sake, they made a half monkey-half human embryo. Hmmm what could go wrong with that?!

Imagine if we imposed sanctions on them and in return they sanctioned/embargoed our iPhones that they make. It would be WW3 out here. Ok, let's put the brakes on this a bit. Stealing tech. While there is a lot of copying of our tech in China, there are also a lot of non-Chinese companies successfully enforcing their tech rights (and still a lot of tech companies not even applying for patents in China). We've been protecting inventions since 1789 (after a much longer history of private property for inventions in Western culture) and China's first patent law was written in 1985 -- it's going to take another generation or two to get China out of the communist mindset that improvements in tech are part of the commons, free for anyone to use. Bio lab in China. A friend of mine is a pathologist and has done research on ebola. He says that the objections to the lab in China were that they did not do a good job of consistently following all of the protocols for a Level 2 lab (not quite up to ISO 9000 standards, so to speak), but that new U.S. labs often struggle to develop and maintain those protocols as well. In his view, it wasn't an egregiously sloppy lab, it was just some isolated failures that were called out with the expectation that they could and would fix it, and this is routine for all sophisticated bio labs. Creating viruses. He also said that while the Chinese might not have been fully open about what is going on, he knows several of the top researchers in that lab and regularly reads the papers that they publish, and they are way too busy doing meaningful research to be intentionally developing a weapon. In his view, that's just American paranoia. Additionally, the virus has now been sequenced and that data has been shared worldwide -- and this virus looks natural to the experts. It's just one person's opinion, but he suggested that it was something else that hasn't been suggested here. He says that bat guano is valuable as fertilizer, so farmers will go into caves with lots of bats to "harvest" the fertilizer, and it's pretty easy to breathe in a lot of dusty sh*t and catch whatever viruses the bats are excreting. All the Chinese provinces are in competition, and he suspects that the origin province suppressed news of the outbreak. Wuhan is a big transportation hub, and once it arrived there it spread even more widely and that's just where it was recognized as a pandemic. I think another option also needs to be on the table. This isn't the first bat virus to jump to humans (SARS), and the Chinese were rushing to research and catalog bat viruses to be ready for the next one to do so. (The US and other countries were helping with this, that is part of the funding sent to the Wuhan lab.) Scientists were visiting bat caves to take samples and while they probably took more precautions than a farmer would, mistakes happen. You take off your mask and accidentally wipe your sweaty forehead with a dirty glove. Oops. So while it's too early to rule anything out, the possibilities are not so heavily weighted to a human-created virus/bioweapon.
June 20, 20213 yr Author You didn't prove anything. Your opinion is no more valid than mine. I know someone who claims they're an alien reincarnated after the Roswell crash that she claims responsibility for, as the commander of the ship. I'm not going to sit here and try to convince you that we're not alone in the universe though, based on what she said. Look how much explaining it takes, to defend the bat theory. If it came from bats, I believe they took a sample, manipulated it and released it - probably intentional. Edited June 20, 20213 yr by David

I've designed labs before and in college worked at a (now defunct) company that worked on BSL-4s. They have to be impeccably built, maintained, and operated. The videos are initially livestreamed, and the narration is just stream of consciousness ad-libbing. It's the flow of activity that's so fascinating. Also, when I was a child I used to visit Toronto in the summer and my great-aunt, who lived both on the east side in the Beaches neighborhood (way, way before it was hip and trendy) and then later when she was older in North York in an area called Willowdale, would take me all over the city, so I have an interest in seeing what it looks like today. One time we went to the old Toronto Zoo (in the middle of what was at least back in the 60's a dicey neighborhood at least for Toronto)--one of those places where animals were all in cages. I'm talking about the old-fashioned one before it, but can't for the life of me find out where it was located. It's like it's been erased from history. The "new" one opened in 1975. Toronto of course has gotten a lot bigger since the 60's, but even back then you noticed skyscrapers and high rise apartments starting to go up. In fact, I remember distinctly when the Toronto-Dominion bank complex was built (Mies van der Rohe was one of the architects--he was still living then--lol) in 1967. It was so huge it dwarfed the rest of the skyline (back then the two most prominent buildings downtown were the old Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and the Royal York Hotel), and now it's basically lost in a forest of other buildings. You should attempt one of these videos in Ohio--haven't you lived in all the 3C's? See how it turns out. Maybe you can monetize it. I would watch it! this is Queen St. East, the main drag in the Beaches area. I used to walk here all the time when I would visit, and I still remember the destination signs on the streetcar the read "Neville Park" and "Humber." Again, back then there were normal grocery and hardware stores, not all of these hipster restaurants and yuppie specialty shops. Some of the large, beautiful homes you see here were in the blocks closer to the beach, not where my aunt lived, further up, but I forgot how wide the beach was. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
