When good threads go bad, or bad threads go good, you decide.....

Check out this topic at Skyscraperpage.com, it is in the interior west subsection regarding United Airlines possible pullout of Denver.  United has a stranglehold in DIA similar to what Delta does in Cincinnati.  The main part though is watching these two forumers go at each other with some pretty hardcorps attacks, a good read!

It's funny...it seems like most SSP threads end up that way.  Either that or they fade into the ether.

That's why I spend less time at SSP and more time at urbanohio. Listening to egotistical clowns trying to out-troll one another  is somewhat less appealing to me than watching professional wrestling (and that falls somewhere below root canal as preferred entertainment). I prefer the mostly intelligent, informed, friendly exchanges that take place here.

Having been a member of SSP for six years and counting, I have to say that the good far outweighs the bad. In this case, Matt (the forumer from Denver) has been known for a long time to get confrontational, especially when it comes to his hometown. It's like any other forum with several thousand members - you get some amazing and informative threads, and you get the occasional troll. You learn pretty quick who fits either role and go from there. Seriously, a look at the City Photos section of SSP - especially those by ColDayMan, giovanni sasso, theodore, mrherodotus, and countless others - is enough for me to say I'll be on SSP 'till they pry it out of my cold dead hands  :-D

^Agreed, and you forgot to mention you on the "countless others" list, you Diva you.

UrbanOhio is a great local website where we can talk Ohio.  SSP is more for fun, drama, national/international pictures,e tc.  Both serve their purposes very well, IMO.

BUMP!!!

I think now that UrbanOhio has grown up a bit, it has it's fair share of "Good Threads, Gone Bad."  What are everyone's favorite examples...this could be pretty interesting!

I feel as if I've just entered a time machine.

..............lawd, lawd, lawd.  Leave it to KOOW!

Actually if anyone is enough of a nerd you probably remember local BBS's, which existed before the internet.  You basically just called a number with your modem and it hooked you into an extra computer running in someone's spare room.  Only one person could use it at a time and you got kicked off after 15 or 20 minutes automatically.  You could only find out about these things from other computer nerds and for the most part only computer nerds were on there.  Anyway I remember they had sections to discuss movies, music, cars, etc., and then typically one called "War Room" where everyone just personally attacked one another.  In slow motion, of course, since only 10 or 15 people could even log on in a day's time.  The thing is is that the blueprint for everything being talked about here existed then...a couple people bullying everyone around.

There existed also before forums like this "guestbooks", which still exist in a lot of places but around 1996-98 were basically one catch-all thread and people would go back and forth with multiple conversations overlapping.  It was a huge improvement because anyone anywhere in the country could log in and at the time I coordinated with other people I knew to keep posting on these with floating aliases.  Basically all we did was use either a teacher's name or the name of anyone we went to high school with or some local celeb.  That way we knew it was someone we knew posting (although we didn't know quite who).  It got completely out of hand but the big advantage back then was the anonymity, whereas sites like this could potentially live on for centuries and as the language and humor and pop references change, people might not really understand sarcasm and all that.

Toledo Interstate 280 span. For obvious reasons.

And that one thread on Athens crime that derailed pretty quickly when C-Dawg pretty much admitted to starting most of the incidents he was complaining about :P

^lol, that's a fav of mine^

The most brutal thread I've seen here is the recently locked Cuyahoga County Administration HQ thread.  But there's nothing really entertaining about it.

Let's See

Nerd Enough?  Check.

Old style Bulletin Boards?  Check.

Dialed through modem to extra computer?  Check.

Heh, you aren't alone in remembering all of that Jmeck

Don't half of the threads DaninDC posted on - those were always fun to watch.

Isn't his suspension over by now?

Whatever happened to Locutusofboard?  He was always fun.

Well I think that my recent Buckhead photo thread can be added to the list of 'Good Threads Gone Bad.'  That turned into a crapfest as soon as some Atlanta forums found out about it; and then the insecurities hit the fan.

LOL I wondered when the thread would be locked. It's comparing apples to oranges really.
