June 12, 200817 yr ^ So they had originally planned to demolish those structures? Seems strange to me.... Did 3CDC change their operating plan in the last couple of years, or did they just think those buildings were too far gone? Not disputing you, but it's hard to believe that they went from a Modernist city planning philosophy (get rid of blight, open spaces, blah blah blah) to a more urbanist philosophy in such a short span of time. Any organization that had planned to raize 22 buildings in a neighborhood listed in the national register of historic places should be put on the US terrorist watch list.... Good thing they didn't act on such a lapse in judgement..
June 12, 200817 yr ^ 3CDC was not the organization that was going to tear down the properties. Cincinnati Public Schools wanted to tear them down to build a new school. That plan changed (build a new school there) and now 3CDC wants to step in and develop them.
June 13, 200817 yr Does 3CDC own "Wielerts" on Vine St. ? plans? great big space on main floor - perfect for restaurant/bar/club I'd think. and put me down for Q (or any other letter) tour. yes....they acquired it in the early part of this year.
June 13, 200817 yr 3CDC was not the organization that was going to tear down the properties. They did reccommend the site for CPS. 3CDC PROMISED THEY'D FIND A NEW LOCATION FOR WASHINGTON PARK SCHOOL, SOUTH OF LIBERTY STREET AS CPS REQUESTED. HERE IT IS…THIS BLOCK OF EMPTY BUILDINGS ON WALNUT & MERCER, KNOWN AS MERCER COMMONS. (Steve Leeper, 3CDC CEO) "Blame us for a bad recommendation and blame CPS for making a bad choice
June 13, 200817 yr And housing will go there;) there's plenty of space downtown for a school. Too bad the streetcar isn't there now.
November 5, 200816 yr ^it will be a parking garage. That space is also owned by Model. uuhhh, is it atleast going to be fronted with retail. Or can we assume this to be true?
November 5, 200816 yr so just a blank wall to the street? Wouldn't Model know better? I did not say that, I said it would be a parking garage. What the specific design plan on said garage is, I don't know.
November 5, 200816 yr and even a parking lot is better than a big red chicken barn True. :) Dont know if I agree. ha. But come on, where are your people's standards. We want the best for our communities. Let the suburbs have the 'this is better than a cornfield' mentality. we can do better. YES WE CAN! Gobama :)
November 5, 200816 yr well buy it from model and get building. YES YOU CAN ! (is this a going to be a cash deal?)
November 5, 200816 yr it was a restaurant at one time. I would say it went up sometime in the '80's. It has approx. the same historical significance to OTR as the Kentucky Fried Chicken building on Liberty.
November 5, 200816 yr If anybody see's them preparing to knock down the barn let me know, I'll wlk over and take some pics!
November 5, 200816 yr A parking garage is much better than a parking lot. you can always build on a parking lot though
November 5, 200816 yr well really, I think it could be turned into something interesting/cool. Id rather see that than some parking garage.
November 5, 200816 yr Is the breaking up of the Gateway Quarter of 4 or 5 threads supposed to make this easier somehow?
November 5, 200816 yr And they just seem to overlap. Even parts of the Q are spread out into at least 4.
November 5, 200816 yr Posted on: Today at 03:19:05 PM Posted by: Michael Redmond And they just seem to overlap. Even parts of the Q are spread out into at least 4. I wonder why?? JK! :-D my house on Mulberry an exception Max, that too is part of the Q and downtown. I am special that way. Hell, I may even fly a fricken Q and Downtown flag just so people know)
November 5, 200816 yr Then can I get a mod to merge the Mulberry/prospect Hill thread here. Or just updates on my personal home can go on here. :-o
November 5, 200816 yr They didn't even have that fence up this morning at about 10am. Then I rolled back past around 3:15 and the back hoe was eating up the very last piece. Unfortunately now that vacant 4-floor building on Mercer is a lot more conspicuous.
November 6, 200816 yr Is the breaking up of the Gateway Quarter of 4 or 5 threads supposed to make this easier somehow? Yes. The Gateway Quarter thread is at 25 pages in length and includes dozens of projects. Projects that are individually identifiable with their own brands and timelines (i.e. City Home, Mercer Commons, Washington Park, SCPA) and should be separated out. Then when they are completed they can be moved to the completed section. It allows for more specific focuses of threads and more clairty when it comes to the status of particular construction projects.
November 6, 200816 yr I am glad someone can keep track of it then. So why is the Barn on Mercer and not part of Gateway if it is actually part of the Model Development on Vine? Ahhhh, who cares.
November 6, 200816 yr ^Page 21 http://www.3cdc.org/uploaded/Microsoft_PowerPoint_-_OTR_Work_Group_-_Oct_21_2008.pdf
November 6, 200816 yr Yeah? I think you slightly misread that in that it is part of phase IV but not necessarily part of Mercer Commons (which itself happens to be part of phase IV) but like I said, who cares. I was just found myself jumping all over the place looking for 'Gateway' but you break it up as you see fit and I will gladly go along for the ride.
November 7, 200816 yr Is the breaking up of the Gateway Quarter of 4 or 5 threads supposed to make this easier somehow? I respectfully disagree. Mercer Commons is part of Gateway Quarter and should not be taking up 2 threads.
November 7, 200816 yr It should be noted that the two threads were already separate. All that was done is I moved posts that fit into this thread here.
November 7, 200816 yr The old thread shoulld have been marked as abadoned. The new Mercer Commons is a different plan and part of Gateway Quarter.
January 7, 201114 yr Bump. We should be putting Mercer Commons related information here. I will merge from Gateway Quarter thread soon. “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
January 25, 201114 yr Mercer Commons breakdown of rental/own + renderings are presented within 3CDC's most recent report: http://www.3cdc.org/images/editor/OTR%20workgroup%20-%20Jan%2011.pdf “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
January 25, 201114 yr What suprised me most, is that the "for sale" areas of Mercer commons are almost entirely new structures. There will be three renovated buildings in the for sale area. The for rent area, however, gets about 13 renovated historic buildings. I wonder where they will place the low-income apartments. Immediately across from Mercer along Walnut are low income housing- It'll be interesting to see how they mix the neighborhood up.
January 31, 201114 yr Are they tearing down 1314 Vine? I see it in the same spot on the plan of Mercer Commons, but not in the rendering. Also, any chance they're going make the facade of the Vine St building more vertically oriented? It just seems so massive.
February 1, 201114 yr 1314 Vine is being torn-down. I really wish that they were going to save the facade or at least the cornice of it.
