Posted August 29, 200618 yr Early in the morning, only a few people out and about and a lot of blank canvases: One artist gets an early start: Corporate sponsor, Scion had these nifty miniature xB's: The larger canvases were awarded to winners of a competition: Minute by minute the canvases are transformed: The MC working the crowd, while DJ Santina plays some great tracks: Future breakdancers! Shoppers from the West Side Market take notice: Eek! Fun place for a date: Looks like Scion is getting some potential buyers: Another large canvas gets under way: Not part of the event, but a sweeeet set of wheels! Downtown off in the distance: Another canvas gets going - this was this artist's first time at the event: Two art forms, one place (Cleveland Film Society HQ in background): Two more canvases, and the crowds start to show up: Taking a quick walk up West 25th - these vendors are usually in the park, but they've been moved onto the street. Made for quite a festive atmosphere: This project is underway, two blocks north of the festival. The Jay Hotel (former flophouse) is being reworked and expanded into a condo project: They're making progress! Part II, coming up! :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 29, 200618 yr Neat stuff! That's a great event; it brings people together and showcases some remarkable talent.
August 29, 200618 yr I've read that the Riverview tower, in the background, is scheduled for demolition. Too bad, in a way, b/c even though it's not a beautiful building and even though I applaud HUD's more enlightened anti-warehousing (the poor) approach, we don't have enough residential high rises in the city -- esp in the context of what Hope VI would have brought -- the original plan, I thought, was to incorporate Riverview into the plan and intergrate different income groups into the building. Now that the cliffs about the river are deemed unstable, I guess Riverview will have a date w/ the wrecking ball. Again: too bad. It sure would be nice if we'd replace Riverview with another high-rise, but I won't hold my breath. Cleveland just isn't into high-rise residential building on any significant scale sans the Gold Coast's quarter to 1/2 mile.

September 5, 200618 yr Great shots MayDay! I got to take some of my own last year, but didn't make it to this year's event due to my Saturday class... And yes, who keeps spreading this rumor about Riverview being scheduled for demo? I've never heard that and I'm in "the field," so to speak.
