Sounds pretty good! It's not totally "live" because of the harmonies, but that did sound quite tasty. He's got lots of DrangonForce influence in the tone and style, and harmonizes in the same degrees that they use (sounds like minor thirds, mostly). Maybe he should look up at the camera!

Good Morning America was playing the video this morning.  He is a Korean student that is self taught and didn't show his face because he thinks he is ugly.

^Sorry gang but this guys isn't /that/ good at this garbage, and that's what it is.  Every city has 50 guys this good, all sitting alone in their bedrooms practicing, none of them with any guts to join a band. The big difference between Eddie Van Halen and the crowd is that he could and did write a lot of good songs (by age 25, the age of this "prodigy") and his style matched up perfectly with David Lee Roth.  Go see a decent jazz group and their guitarist could whoop this guy, and of course the guys in Spain can't be touched. 

^Well, yeah, it's not really that tough of a song besides the sweep arpeggio part. It still sounds good. I could probably figure out almost all of it by ear since it's a progression that I am familiar with already from playing the Testament song "First Strike is Deadly". It would suck to be one of those bedroom-only guys; many musicians do have the people skills of a fire hydrant. I don't see how people are trying to say that this is some kind of brilliant "new" thing, considering nothing new has been done on guitar since about 1988 (or so) and this has nothing new. I wouldn't say it's garbage though.

Well I am one of those guys that things it is "great".  This is a piano composition that was redone by an electric guitar and while the concept isn't new, this version is new.  If you don't see the hype, type in "Pachelbel's Canon" in youtube.com and look at all the returns by artists that can't touch this kid.

Definetely stick around for #'s 6 and 7, they're incredible.  And also 22 or 25 or however old he is is definitely not a kid by guitar playing standards, you can go to Bluegrass festivals and county fairs and see kids, as in 10 or 11 year olds, who are ridiculously good.  They're all over the place.

Yeah, this progression is unusual in that the root chord manages to appear twice but doesn't sound like the root the second time.  When you're trying to figure a song out and you just can't figure out some chord, always try the root or some variation of it.

And meanwhile guys that suck play out all the time, and of course these days musicianship and songwriting count for nothing, it makes no difference if you are actually a good band, the only way you will be signed is if you are a coat hanger for some stylist team.

lol! I watched that video yesterday ... what a FREAK! ... but, he was sweet at the guitar!

^He played with Guns 'n' Roses on their ill-fated "comeback" tour in 2002, I saw them in a sold-out Chicago arena about 5 days before the tour-ending riot in Philadelphia.  So yes, this guy /can/ play in a band but was kicked out soon after by Axl for just plain not showing up to practices and recording sessions.  In case anyone cares, the comeback GNR sounded better than the original band in my opinion.  It's amazing what practice and sobriety can accomplish.  Obviously Axl is a lot older and he was kind of fat but he honestly sounded fantastic.  He should have just billed himself as "Axl Rose" instead of as GNR, it's kind of like if Brian Wilson called his current touring group The Beach Boys. 

 

And GNR #2 have been playing to HUGE audiences in Europe this summer, with a US tour in the works for this fall:

 

To go along with this thread...here is me playing the National Anthem at Cain Park.  The video quality is horrendous (and so is my spelling most likely) but you get the idea.  And you have no idea how many times my guitar students have wanted me to watch the canon rock video.  It was cool the first 400 times I had to watch it haha.
