St. Bernard stands ground

First suburb works toward a comeback

BY JANE PRENDERGAST | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

ST. BERNARD - Used to be, St. Bernard didn't have to worry about money. It was home to Ivorydale, Procter & Gamble Co.'s 200-acre manufacturing complex. Thousands worked there. That meant the city was flush with cash, enough to pay for services unheard of elsewhere, such as Dial-a-Ride bus trips for just 10 cents and free garbage bags. But then in 1999, P&G started restructuring its North American plants. Since then, Ivorydale has been significantly downsized, and most of it sold to smaller companies.

Are you sure the median age isn't like 50?

I know, cheesy and not that good, but it is what it is

Check out the St Bernard DQ on a warm summer night.

I live in Walnut Hills, and my wife had a craving for a soft serve ice cream cone...Putz's was almost closed (it was like 7:55pm or something), and the only place we could think of was DQ...the closest seemed to be in St. Bernard, so off I went.  And indeed, it was packed...I didn't mind the wait, because once you get the melty-goods, you're done waiting, but yeah, they had two windows going full bore, and it was still probably ten minutes of standing in line, and smack up against the street too...
