July 1, 20222 yr this is kinda interesting — the perelman center roadmap — they seem to be right on time with it — i wish all buildings would have these for us !!! March 2016: The permanent PATH station, the Oculus opens one block to the south, and the temporary station entrance is demolished in August. Work can now proceed on the PAC site. June 2016: PAC announces gift from Ronald O. Perelman $75M and renaming of building as the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center August 2017: The Port Authority (PA) begins construction of the roadways and other facilities that sit below ground on the PAC site. The PA’s construction included super columns for the PAC, loading docks, utility connections, and other support spaces below street level. February 2018: The PAC signs a 99-year lease with the Port Authority. April 2018: The first “super-column” for installation by the PA. Due to the complexities of the site and the clear spans required for performance spaces, the PAC rests on several super-columns, or massive structural support connections. September 2019: The first cranes rise for PAC construction. Early 2020: Rockwell Group led by David Rockwell joins the design team to serve as interiors architect for the public level. March 2020: Construction stops for 52 days due to pandemic-related restrictions. August 2020: PAC’s perimeter steel tops out. April 2021: Superstructure steel on the roof and hardened walls are complete. June 23 2021: Topping off ceremony. December 2021: Installation of the PAC’s distinctive design – its façade - was completed this month. Begun in September, more than 5,000 marble tiles quarried, cut and fabricated in Portugal, laminated with glass in France, and assembled into panels in Germany, were installed to create the unique pattern that is a defining feature of the building. Winter 2021-Spring 2022 The hallmark features of the PAC’s flexible theater spaces began installation. The first step is installation of the two pairs of enormous acoustic doors. These doors, which literally operate at the touch of a button, delineate the three theater spaces and provide acoustic isolation so there can be multiple performances simultaneously. Summer 2022 The automated seating lifts are installed in the John E. Zuccotti Theater to be followed by the installation of the seating towers, which add to the capacity and flexibility of the space. Summer 2022 The interior lighting pendants will be installed. These pendants provide general interior lighting and light the façade from within, which will create the building’s signature glow. Q4 2022 The theater spaces are scheduled to be complete. Q4 2022 Interior finishes throughout the building are scheduled to be complete. Q4 2022 The public lobby level, including the café, bar and terrace are scheduled to be complete. The construction management firm completes all the details needed to finish the building. Q1 2023 Commissioning of the theaters is scheduled to begin, testing the broad range of configurations which are the hallmark of the building’s theatrical innovation and flexibility. Prior to the first public events, there will also be a “soft opening” phase to test building operations and audience experience. The Performing Arts Center is scheduled to open in 2023.

Only downside was paying about $17 for two bottles of water! yeah it was weird, cold and empty for a long time when it opened. hard to get to like, especially when you think about how much money was spent on it. and it will never open up like it was supposed to. anyway, now everyone is used to it and more importantly all the shops are open and tourists are back, and commuting picking up, so that helps. otoh -- the costs of things in there are out of control. in the oculus mall, in eataly and over in the brookfield mall. the thing that really bugs me though is the bathrooms. such a poor, old fashioned design. everytime you literally have to walk past a long line of women to the mens room. its an embarrassing walk of shame for men and much worse of course its so unfair for the ladies.

Tuesday at 07:15 AM4 days ^ i liked the big design best — because it was different and the form followed the function best, for large studios rather than just boring offices. too bad the heinous murdoch klan punked out, at least it would have been built by now. meh.
