October 18, 201113 yr Is this just the Browns proposal? I noticed the linkage directly to the mall If I'm seeing that rendering right, it also looks like they are taking East 12th Avenue District across the muni lot and shoreway to the lake. I'm sure that's just a pie in the sky idea, but what a great way to jumpstart this district
October 18, 201113 yr This was a study and project that was approved Dec 2009, but I have not found anywhere that says the project died. But it does look like it hoped the Port Authority would move to E55th. And we all know about that.... http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2009/12/planners_approval_of_waterfron.html
October 19, 201113 yr ^Hey hold your horses. Going way to fast. I think the first step is to commission a study to determine whether we should commission another lakefront study. :-)
October 19, 201113 yr And what is being built at the harbor right now? East of 9th, north of the Marginal?
October 19, 201113 yr I know Leandog Software is building a second story on a barge as well. Don't know ETA
October 20, 201113 yr The EEKarchitects plans are dead. Those all relied on The Ports plans to relocate. I still think it is a shame this plan is dead. The concept was strong. The Browns Waterfront plan is not as effective. At this point I do not know if it is an effective reality. Way to many plans have been drawn up and yet none have come to fruition.
May 11, 201411 yr Walking down by the Lakefront today and saw that the transient marina is almost complete! Not sure it isn't getting any press, but I thought it looked wonderful!!!
May 11, 201411 yr PaulI, thanks for all the pictures you've been posting lately! I love this project, and it's looking really cool
May 11, 201411 yr This should be an awesome addition to the lakefront. Now they just need a nice restaurant overlooking the marina. Everyone loves boats!
May 11, 201411 yr This should be an awesome addition to the lakefront. Now they just need a nice restaurant overlooking the marina. Everyone loves boats! Amen! I was thinking this when I went down earlier today! There's a great opportunity for outdoor dining down there during the summer. Even something just like PHS's Dynomite shack would be perfect. Some small retail stalls along the pier would be great too. It could really become a fantastic tourist stop.
May 12, 201411 yr Well I was hoping for better with the boathouse or outhouse(aka public restrooms). Haven't seen it in person yet so maybe it looks better live. Seems an odd placement for it, further away from the RH maybe closer to Voinivich Park would have been better. The render for the building looks different as far as the color of it. Looks tacky in the photo.
May 12, 201411 yr It's nice to see some smaller scale buildings along that stretch. North Coast Harbor truly lacks a personal scale.
May 12, 201411 yr I like the nautical flags spelling Cleveland. I was just about to ask about the significance of the signal flags. Very nice
May 12, 201411 yr Apparently there was another proposal from a landscape architect that would have placed the 'amenities building' further away from the RH as I suggested previously but the city rejected it. An article from Steve Litt questions it's placement, also some info about the proposed bridge that has yet to start construction even though funding has been secured. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2014/01/will_the_new_north_coast_harbo.html
May 12, 201411 yr I meant to also post these pictures yesterday too. The first is a north facing view, which I think looks really nice, to my eyes anyway. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. But I think it's a huge improvement ....
May 12, 201411 yr Slightly off topic: I am completely ignorant about this and was wondering about security. Couldn't anybody with a boat come from Canada or points east via the Saint Lawrence Seaway dock here (or anywhere in the Great Lakes and ... well, cause some sort of havoc? Always wondered about that.

May 21, 201411 yr See below and the link for more details regarding the legislation for the North Coast Harbor Development Plan. Cleveland City Council is hearing for a second time, legislation (Ord No 561-14); Authorizing the Director of Port Control to enter into a multi-phased option to lease agreement and resulting lease agreements with Cumberland TCC, LCC for property commonly known as the Harbor West Docks, and three sites at North Coast Harbor for future development. The project represents a proposed three-phase project that includes a 50 year triple net lease for approximately 21 acres of lakefront property. Development includes plans for 1,000 apartments, 80,000 sq ft office space, 40,000 sq ft retail space, and plans for a K-8 feeder school for the MC2 STEM High School at the Great Lakes Science Center. Also what's up with a traffic light on a ped bridge, ugh.
April 22, 20223 yr just walked it. it does feel cheap. like I wouldn't be surprised if they have to close it within the decade cheap

I spy an Eaton control panel in this picture. But since they’re an Irish company now, I guess that’s still cheap foreign built components. 😀 When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

OK you have good eyes Brian…that is an Eaton control panel bolted on, but that’s as much as I’ll concede on my previous statement! 😁😁 The rest if the system is a Frankensteined mix of cheap components. I stand by my assessment! Heck…I bet Parker would have donated components if the city had just asked. Anyway, back to this weird, economical design. 😀
April 22, 20223 yr How do boat operators open the bridge to get access to the harbor? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 22, 20223 yr That bridge looks like it should be unloading shipping containers. What a disgraceful design...so bulky and uninspiring....ugh. https://www.instagram.com/cle_and_beyond/https://www.instagram.com/jbkaufer/
April 22, 20223 yr @MuRrAy HiLLWait, that hydraulic system is just sitting out in the open like that....with part of it wrapped in a plastic tarp? That is weird. They couldn't have sprung for a case to put around it? Strange stuff. Maybe, its just temporary until they get the horse harness rigged up? Edited April 22, 20223 yr by DO_Summers
April 22, 20223 yr And a waste of money given all the more important infrastructure enhancements that continue to languish. Would have rather seen the money spent on the reconstruction of Superior Avenue.
April 22, 20223 yr This one was much better. I wonder why it was not selected? https://www.rosalespartners.com/project/north-coast-harbor-pedestrian-bridge/
April 22, 20223 yr Must be the money. The bridge in your post say it would cost 5.5 million. I don't think the one we got comes anywhere close to that.
April 23, 20223 yr Am I the only one who the bridge design has kind of grown on? I used to hate it but I think it actually looks pretty decent now. Obviously there were significantly better proposals, but I don't hate it by any means. That being said, I still question why exactly we needed a bridge there, it doesn't take that long to simply walk around the harbor to get to the other side.

April 23, 20223 yr Apparently it wasn't clunky enough. Developers of projects in Cleveland seem fond of industrial-looking designs since they perceive Cleveland as an industrial city. Remember the proposed AmeriTrust tower on the Jacobs lot with a top that looked like smokestacks? Good grief. I'm glad that was never built.
April 23, 20223 yr Not me. I loved that design...although looking back I'm not sure how well it aged.
June 1, 20223 yr I guess it isn’t.. terrible? And it is 1000% better than what we had before which is nothing. Plus it does look sweet lit up at night and is very pleasant to walk.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s not nearly as bad as has been made out in this thread and it is a nice amenity. It’s great that it has the LED lighting.

June 1, 20223 yr Still don't like it in the day but that blue lighting sure makes it look cool at night.
