If it is just going to be another Nicholas then I understand that and would favor no demolition. What we would get would not really be worth it. I hope they don't get to just knock these down or sit on them and let them rot. Anybody caring about this is a small minority voice but we need to make that voice louder to developers, the city, commissions, etc. I am not familiar with any groups in the city who might be allies but I am sure some on here know of some. JMHO I would imagine most buildings that haven't seen real investment in decades are "meh" inside. We shouldn't let intentional neglect be an excuse if they can be rehabbed into something nice and still get a decent new project for the back part, but I am am minority voice on that.

April 5, 20232 yr I like it. Work in the original facade, and I love it. I’m guessing it’ll be used for garage access, but it’d be great if Walnut St to the south could be used as pedestrian only patio space or something. Or a food truck alley.

Maybe some penthouse type units at the top for some tapering and and a few more floors? I don't mind the box so much if they have a couple or three setbacks at the top. I don't think the buildings are architecturally significant, but because of their age, they're part of the urban fabric. At the corner of Milwaukee, North and Damon in Chicago, there's a Walgreens in an old bank building - it's pretty cool!

April 10, 20232 yr As a bit of a side note speaking of that corner, I have been itching for similar concept to Foxtrot to come to Columbus. Interesting to see the developer specifically call out a grocer. Maybe a Weinans collaboration? But the call out for minimal retail isn't a lack retail space. There's plenty of that and they are simply replacing existing so I wonder what they plan to do differently to fill their retail rather than having such high vacancy on High downtown at this time. I could theoretically be on board with demolishing the two buildings in question, but only if the new building would be an architectural improvement. The two facades aren’t anything overly special, but they are better than a lot of what is built today. If the developers can improve what is there, I’d be all for it.
