It has recently been impossible to get on the website. Anyone know what's up with SSC?

They are probably just running on Windows based servers. No biggie.

I read something a while back - maybe it was on SSP - that I think said SSC was going on a hiatus that they hoped would be temporary. I can't remember the details, and as SSP no longer has "search", I can't find the post.

I found the opposite. SSP has some type of problem where you cant view anything unless you you're a logged in user. It will get a busy signal some time. SSC use to get it, but I haven't been getting it lately.
