February 22, 200619 yr Sounds interesting. I came across a 2004 article where someone was poo-pooing the residential and said the district should focus on drawing out of towners. Yeah, right. This is Toledo we're talking about. I just don't think this would be enough to draw in tourists. They have one of the best art museums in the country, but that doesn't do the job. I like it, though. I'm glad they're making the smart decision and making residential areas a focus. I saw an estimated 1,500 units proposed, but is it still that many?

April 27, 200619 yr The Marina District looks like its gonna suck, I heard today it isnt going to be a retail/entertainment district anymore but just a bunch of condos. Most of the money will be spent on "the canal to nowhere" (which IMHO may be a pipedream). I also heard some idiotic idea of moving the outdoor amphetheater near "The Docks", one of the most backwards ideas Ive heard in awhile especially since that area is known to get pretty loud. This is what happens when you fire a professional company like Pizzuti and let some local with no experience take on a project this size. Good news is im finally seeing some activity going on in the Marina District area, better something than nothing I guess.

April 29, 200619 yr ^about the Marina District Im encouraged that the 78-slip marina and an access road will supposably be completed by years end. I really dont see where all this is going though, seems like alot of random proposals are coming up by the week. I would like to see them do something like in Columbus with the cool digital signs over the lofts...Seeing all that action going on in while driving across the G.C. Skyway would look kinda cool. Channel 11 is already by the riverfront anyway. Combine this with an outdoor amphitheater, riverwalk to "The Docks", a few resturants/retail with room for growth, maybe a few condos, and a COOL LOOKING multipurpose indoor recreation facility you would have one hell of a riverfront.

Kalmes Toledo Free Press Metro Editor [email protected] She was the “Queen of the Lakes” when she launched, but what was once the world's largest bulk freighter is destined for the scrap yard if she doesn't soon receive some needed support. The S.S. Willis B. Boyer Museum Ship, which has graced the eastern banks of the Maumee River for nearly 20 years, is in jeopardy of deteriorating to an irreparable state due to a lack of funding from the City of Toledo, which purchased the ship in 1986, said Paul LaMarre, the Boyer's executive director. For the second consecutive year, he said, the ship has had to operate without an operating budget because of the city's fiscal constraints. “With our current funding situation, we can only do so much to fight the deterioration that's taking place,” LaMarre said. “In all reality, on her current course, the ship could survive one or two more years before being destined for the scrap yard.” ... http://toledofreepress.com/?id=4935

June 19, 200717 yr I remember taking a tour of the Boyer back in the early '90s. I've always wondered about these lakers, and this was a great introduction to this kind of ship. One of the things I remember is that they let me down in the hold, and then turned on these lights. They had a little sailboat set up in there, to give you a sense of the scale inside. I also recall the captains quarters, with the nice wood paneling.
