Posted October 9, 200618 yr In preparation for Louisville, I posed the question of what one neighborhood in Louisville is worth seeing. Jeff decided one wasn't enough, and went to the effort to put together a blitz tour featuring several neighborhoods. Boy I'm glad I asked. The tour was great, but the pictures stink because they were taken from the car (for the most part) and I was more focused on my own enjoyment rather than capturing the moment for urbanohioians. Here is a graphic by Jeff that I'll refer to: Leaving downtown....Walgreens w/o setback! Cherokee Triangle... An old firehouse? Bardston Road contains a large variety of old and new commerical buildings that create a great urban strip, I wish I would have had more time there. Straying a bit from the tour, an upscale neighborhood (Rose Hill???) sits below Cherokee Triangle along the park. Cherokee Park is quite large and scenic, and contains many elements found in older city parks such as fountains, ornate streetlights, etc Getting into Old Louisville, a largely intact neighborhood of mansions, and such; many homes are 3 stories St. James Court is a grand boulevard centered around an impressive fountain Belgravia Court is a pleasant pedestrian street lined with dense, detailed homes Thanks Jeff!
October 10, 200618 yr It's a bit like Lexington in those pics. Great shots! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 10, 200618 yr Thanks Jeff! You're welcome! I see you did get out of the car and took a walk down Belgravia Court. I liked your pix...always interesting to see what an out-of-towner picks up on re architecture, details, and such. t's a bit like Lexington in those pics. Yes indeed, we used to say Lexington was a little Louisville. Lexington had "parks" (Transyvania Park, Fayette Park, etc) while Louisville had "courts" (Belgravia Court, Floral Court, etc).
October 10, 200618 yr [i see you did get out of the car and took a walk down Belgravia Court. Yeah, I did walk down St. James, Belgravia (both sides), and 4th down back to the court midway between Belgravia and Central Park that comes out at the fountain. I went into Central Park and was impressed by the main building, but my camera was pooped by that point.
October 10, 200618 yr Central Park was one of the Olmstead parks...it has that nice pergola in it. During the summer they have "Shakespeare in the Park" in an open air stage there. That Cherokee Park and some of the surrounding neighborhoods where hit by a tornado back in 1974 which took out quite a bit of the wooded areas, some very big old trees, and the park hasn't been the same since, though it is starting to finally seem the great forest that it once was.
October 17, 200618 yr Ink, you are a sucker for old homes...probably have a better collection than anyone I know, by far! Thx
